Range finders aren’t against the rules. The tour just implements a local rule prohibiting them. I am in favor of their use, but don’t think it will save time as I don’t think getting the distance is the time consuming part of their routine.

They are pretty close in size, you do have to account for the fact that epoxy has to go into the hole; you could also add shafting beads it it was a little loose. I have always found that the fit is snug. If using steel, you can always sand the shaft down a little.

These two stuck out to me as not being 100% accurate based on what I have observed. For pros, they don’t just use the range to warm and practice holes. One of my favorite things to do is go to tournaments mon-wed to watch pros on the range. They like every other golfer have training aids and are working on swing mechanics. Their swings are solid but I wouldn’t say near perfect. They also spend lots of time working on distance control. They actually spend considerably more time on the range than most golfers; simply because it is their job. You even see them on the range after tournament rounds Working on their swings to figure out an issue they had during that round. They also spend lots of time working on trouble shots. Their swings aren’t perfect but they have better control of setup, alignment, and face angle than the non professionals. As for low handicappers, I think you give them too much credit. I would say I fall into that category and have played significantly better golf 5-6 years ago than I do now. I was naive about what to do on a range and mostly just hit balls with no purpose.

I just hope it warms up so you can actually get those clubs out to a course.

Let's try a different way to look at this. How much an athlete makes from an even it probably some of the most well known information as it is often used to entice the player to play. Generally, the amount of money people make from their job isn't public information. How much do you make, how much do your coworkers make? I know the companies I have worked for frown on discussing how much you earn.

I think it sounds fine in theory but I personally believe that If implemented it would impact the golf at all levels; not just the PGA tour. Yes, there will be people that don’t care and play whatever they want just like is done today. If you want an illegal driver, I believe callaway marketed on for a while but it wasn’t successful or you could shave the face to make It hotter. I think many people want to play the same equipment as pros so they can do comparisons.

I have heard of studies that showed that trying to hit the ball harder than “normal” or less than normal will actually increase you shot distribution. Largely due to people getting out of sequence or trying to control their swing. I would say to slow down you swing only when you are trying to take off Distance.

Just as you are disagreeing with everything I and others have said about their not being a distance problem and potential impacts to the game. My position nor your position is right or wrong. No matter how much data or how many charts you present, it is simply an opinion about golf. This topic is no different than dress codes, music on the course, manufacturer claims, etc. ultimately the R&A and the USGA will make a decision and people will be happy and people won't be happy.

And those surveys aren’t always accurate and don’t necessarily state actual large scale opinions. Your statement should have said based on limited surveys about 1/3 of people think distance is a major problem.

Local rules have been used for a long time. Two of the bigger ones are the tours one ball rule and use of distance measuring devices.
