  1. I have been playing on and off since the 70s and regularly since the 90s. I have hit quite a few into the hole from the fairway or rough (par 3 distances) but have never done it from a tee box. Like most everyone else I have gotten close a few times with the closest being about 1 1/2 inches in the early 90s. This stands out to me clearly due to what followed. as I approached the next tee an older gentleman asked me if it went in the hole and I said no. He responded that Ben Hogan once told him that having the ball stop next to the hole required skill but it only required luck. I later found out that he was Chandler Harper a former professional golfer who has 7 tour wins including a PGA Championship.
  2. I am actually open to changes. You see a problem with golf. Ignoring how you get there, explain to me what you think professional golf should look like and how do you future proof golf to keep the problem from happening again? If you say scale back distances by 10%, how keep players from figuring out how to hit it their old distances? If you don't want players to be hitting wedges into greens, what club is acceptable to hit into a green? Are you willing to okay with changing course conditions to slow down greens to be able to hold those longer irons? What does the product look like? Does it apply to all professional levels, men's tours only, elite amateur competitions, tour qualifying events (not monday qualifiers but US Open qualifier)? Do the changes impact the product so significantly that they lose viewership?
  3. Obviously you have your thoughts and there is no one that can provide you any information that will change your mind and you will only look at evidence that supports your mindset. You have established your bias and it just isn’t worth discussing this anymore with you.
  4. It isn’t that they aren’t good. I really wanted graphite shafts and I didn’t want to send out the srixons because I wouldn’t be able to play. Only have about 6 rounds with the Honmas.
  5. My counter is that you are an amateur golfer that has no clue what a pro could do if given a chance to play the old equipment. You site a staged recreation that was designed to make Arnold Palmer look good. I still say that technology has taught players how to better utilize the equipment in their hands. Equipment changes will create the same separation between golfers. Scores will not change. But some people will be happy that the players aren’t hitting wedges.
  6. I love srixons too. They are my backup set and were the gamers until I got the Honmas.
  7. Rule 9.6 should be where you start If it is known or virtually certain that an outside influence (including another player in stroke play or another ball) lifted or moved a player’s ball: There is no penalty, and The ball must be replaced on its original spot (which if not known must be estimated) (see Rule 14.2). This applies whether or not the player’s ball has been found. But if it is not known or virtually certain that the ball was lifted or moved by an outside influence and the ball is lost, the player must take stroke-and-distance relief under Rule 18.2. If the player’s ball is played as a wrong ball by another player, that is covered by Rule 6.3c(2), not by this Rule. Penalty for Playing Incorrectly Substituted Ball or Playing Ball from a Wrong Place in Breach of Rule 9.6: General Penalty Under Rule 6.3b or14.7a. If multiple Rule breaches result from a single act or related acts, see Rule 1.3c(4).
  8. I play Honma irons and have tried all the clubs since I am a most wanted tester. They are high quality clubs and in my opinion are equal to any US based OEM. If I were replacing clubs I wouldn't hesitate to put in a full bag of Honma clubs. Have been hitting their wedges when I do a little practicing after a testing session and I think there wedges are really good.
  9. you are probably better off not working on shapes. Find a shape and use it. Work on trajectory instead,
  10. Here is an example that it isn't predominantly equipment advances. 45 year old golfer (non long drive competitor where they were getting 350 during that timeframe as well) getting 300+ with 25 year old equipment. Todays players could do the exact same thing.
  11. Saw the putters listed above today. IMO, the pictures look better than the product (referring to the new models). Mallet testing should start next week so I will judge performance then but not a fan of the look and alignment lines.
  12. Think I have seen why the ten is going away. Odyssey has redesigned the alignment on the ten to be like a 2 ball putter. Saw pictures a few days ago and saw one in person today. I personally prefer the prior ten model.
  13. All options will change the swing weight to what you want. They will also influence total weight which will influence the feel of the club. Basically you can’t just look at swingweight. As for which option, build one club and see how it works; it seem like you have the tools and ability to figure out which is the best option.
  14. I am in the wait and see corner on this. We already have some bifurcation within golf...one ball local rule, rangefinder usage, and tee boxes to name a couple. The biggest issue is that there really isn’t a good problem statement. Just saying distance or that courses are becoming obsolete really isn’t defining a problem. If you limit distance like we have already done with COR rules you will still have people that hit it farther than others. If we look at major course setups we can control scoring, if that defines “obsolete”. We don’t see players scoring in the 50s with any regularity. I’d like to know what they expect to see with these changes.
  15. I have been using a theraband flex bar to help with golfers and tennis elbow for the past few months. Seems to be helping but we will see once I get back into testing irons again.
  16. It is his homemade downunder board training aid.
  17. I agree. Most stuff is coming off the embargo lists and can be shown to general public. Was just saying that the PGA show is usually the milestone date for early year releases.
  18. Something looks odd; probably need one of commissioners to looks more deeply.
  19. I don’t get to the range very often. Just raking and hitting balls isn’t practice. There can be many strategies to practice. 1. To work on swing mechanics. This isn’t about where the ball goes and is generally associated with learning something and instructor wants you to work on. 2. Skill improvement. Work on ball control. This included shape and flight. 3. Simulation. This is about simulating a round of golf on the practice range. 4. Dispersion evaluation. Work on developing a standard ball flights and understanding/narrowing the associated dispersion patterns. 5. Spend time in the short game area to improve pitching, chipping, and putting. 6. Practice on the course. Don’t just keep score but learn where you have issues. Put balls in bad locations and play out from there. Hit two shots and play the ball in the worst position. Obviously this is dependent on how crowded the course is while you are playing. One of the keys to practice is to work on things that you are poor at executing. Find a way to keep score so that you can evaluate if you are improving. Look up Adam young, he provides some good drills on skill improvement. Look at Scott Fawcett, he provides good info on strategic practice. Look at the book lowest score wins for identifying skills to prioritize.
  20. Here are my thoughts and opinions. 1. Often people that work in golf shops are on staff with OEMs and they tend to push those products. That could be why he was pushing Titleist products. The other perspective is that their job is to push clubs that will work for your swing. Did you provide a budget so he knew what he was working with? National Chain doesn't mean much; many national chains don't have the best fitters. Was it a sporting goods/golf shop or was it a golf club fitting company? 2. a light weight shaft can still have a swing weight of D5. Total weight and swing weight are two completely different things. 3. Fitting processes can seem rehearsed and robotic. They give you shafts and clubheads and have you see how they work for a couple of swings. Then they give you another to try to see what it does. Him not listening to your input about direction would be a red flag also. If he wasn't answering your questions and didn't provide the fitting you wanted don't buy the clubs and get fitted somewhere else. 4. Did you get a copy of your numbers with current irons and the irons you tried? You should be able to do your own analysis on the data. 5. Not a big shaft guy myself; others on here are more knowledgeable, and can advise on alternatives. I would explain why you would want an alternative shaft.
  21. Rory did NOT have a rules official come in.
  22. They talk about prize money all the time. You can easily find career earnings and tournament earnings with a simple google search Here is the money from yesterday. https://golfweek.usatoday.com/2021/01/31/pga-tour-prize-money-farmers-insurance-open/
  23. We are post PGA show, most everything is now released or will be over the next couple of weeks.
  24. That is what we did last year; as stated in the Fantasy thread Fantrax couldn't support that format with the number of teams we have in the league.
