  1. I dont think that manufacturered terrain really disqualifies it from being a links course. Being on the coast and being windswept is really what makes a links course a links course, IMO. You could argue that literally every golf course in the world is, "manufactured terrain". To be fair though, being Wisconsin born and raised, Im probably biased.
  2. Id say the short answer is that there arent many courses in America that are links courses, can host a tour event, are made for good TV and that is willing to either pay enough or bring enough sponsors to get an event. There are some, Whistling Straits is one that comes to mind. I feel like a lot of people forget about it because its in the middle of nowhere and then it hosts a major and reminds everyone how amazing it is.
  3. I just throw mine in the washing machine on the gentle cycle and then let them air dry. I work in a factory where we're required to wear baseball caps, so Im washing caps about once a week and I find that it doesnt deform any of my hats. In the past, before we had such a nice washing machine, I used to soak my hats in a plastic tub with a bit of laundry detergent and then would just rinse them off. That works well too.
  4. Hey, Im all for doing your thing too but its not going to stop me from laughing and thinking someone is an idiot when they are 40 and still trying to act like theyre a frat boy. Dont even get me started on when they try to hit on the beer cart girl. Its like bro, you couldnt get her when you are in your prime, what makes you think that youre going to get her when youre 40, with a dad bod and going bald, especially when you just ordered a White Claw? LOL
  5. Can we also point out the obvious that he shows up to the course like he doesnt really care, is married to Wayne Gretzky's daughter and oh, btw, she is an absolutely dime. I mean, how we was ever world #1 with all those distractions off the course is a marvel, IMO. If all he ever did was hang out and drink beer with his FIL and hang out by the pool with his wife, I mean, I wouldnt blame him.
  6. Im actually fine with people being slow, as long as they let faster players through. As far as music on the course goes, its not really a new thing and has been a growing trend for a number of year now. I personally dont have a problem with it, as long as its kept at a respectable volume. If Im on the next hole over and can hear your music, its too loud. I always seem to see the group of 40 year old dudes who are trying to relive their college days playing a round on Saturday with their buddies, with the backwards hats, shotgunning beers, trying to be like frat boys, who are blasting ganster rap and have one of those bluetooth speakers cranked up loud enough that half the golf course can hear it. I usually try to shout something clever to them like, "Hey! Play some Skynyrd!" Sometimes they make my day and give me the finger and sometimes not. LOL
  7. Golf here in central Ohio seems to be bigger than Ive ever seen it because its been one of the few activities that people were able to get out and do throughout the pandemic. Just yesterday, I tried to get a morning tee time and every slot had 2-3 people all the way from 8am until noon. On a freaking Tuesday. I swear people dont work in this town. LOL The weekends are even worse. Even if you want to get out in the afternoon on a weekend, youd better be prepared to get grouped up with others and expect the course to be slow. Im actually looking foreward to a couple months from now when football season starts and people start being more interested in sitting on their couch watching football than in golf. I love golf in the fall here because the courses are empty and I can get out and play 9 holes in about an hour.
  8. Cut are nice golf balls. Theyre basically the same thing as Snell, Vice or Maxfli. All of those DTC balls are made in the same ball plants in Asia. Ive played the Cut Red before and its a decent ball. I dont recall exactly where they are made but I believe its either South Korea or Taiwan.
  9. If your issues are 75 yards and in, you probably want to considering switching to a tour ball like the Pro V1. You could also consider the Snell MTB, Vice Pro, Cut Red or Maxfli Tour if you want to save a few bucks and have something that performs comparably to the Pro V1. Ive been playing the Maxfli Tour X for the past year and really like it. I find that it gives me plenty of spin on partial wedge shots to get the ball to stop on the green and it pretty affordable. You can often find them on sale at Dick's or GG for less than $25 a dozen and often they do a 2 dozen for $50 deal.
  10. Id say thats a very personal decision and one that only you can answer. Im a 15 handicap and probably should be playing SGI irons but I cant stand them. I cant stand to look down at a thick topline, I cant stand look at a set of chunky soled irons in my bag and I cant stand the lack of feel that they have. I prefer and only play blades or players' cavity back irons. I dont struggle to hit my irons well, so forgivness isnt a big concern for me. Im all about feel and distance control.
  11. Snell MTB, Vice Pro, Cut (Red?) and Maxfli Tour are all what I would call a poor man's Pro V1. They perform almost exactly the same as a Pro V and cost about $25 a dozen. Ive been playing the Maxfli Tour for the past year, Ive played Pro V1s in the past and I honestly cant tell the different from a Pro V1 to the Maxfli.
  12. FWIW, I just installed an ad blocker and its signifigantly faster. So, Im guessing it has to be the banner ads.
  13. Soooooooo slow. Id agree that its probably the banner ads.
  14. Ive been playing them for the past year, have gone through several dozens of them and I find them to be pretty consistent from ball to ball. I havent gone so far as to weigh them or cut them in half but just playing them, Im yet to really put one in play that was a dud or does anything unusual.
  15. Is the problem really fans in general or is it just the 1% of fans who act like idiots? I dont have a problem with the vast majority fans who act respectfully, I just could do without the, "light the candle" guy who drinks a few too many beers and dont know how to act right at a golf tournament.
  16. I dont believe that there is such a thing. Im a 20 handicap, I play blade irons and I hit them just as well as I do any other kind of iron. I also wouldnt agree to picking shaft flex based upon handicap. You could be a 20 handicap but have a high swing speed or an aggressive transition, necessitating stiff shafts. IMO, this whole, "ego vs reality" thing that often comes up with golf equipment is just people trying to convince themselves that a new club can fix their swing flaws. Its just not the case. If you want to play better, you need to look at the weak aspects of your game and work on turning your weaknesses into strengths.
  17. I brush it off by having a few beers in the clubhouse or at a local bar after my round and telling myself that I played my best and that my best today just wasnt good enough. A wise Zen master once said that if you live every day of your life giving your best, you can go to bed that night knowing that you gave it your best shot and you can be at peace with how the day turned out. Ive always kept that in mind in all aspects of my life, especially on the golf course and that mindset has allowed me to never have a bad day on the course. That and if all else fails, beer helps. LOL
  18. Ive played the Vico Tour in the past and found it to be a good ball. For anyone who says that Vice is just a marketing company who uses a 3rd party to produce their balls; how is that any different from what Snell, Cut or any of the other DTC companies do?
  19. Id say youre overthinking it. For me, a simple formula is: am I hitting mid and long irons into the greens on par 4s all the time and on par 5s do I have any hope of making par? If they answers are that Im constantly hitting long irons and havent got a prayer on par 5s, its time to move up.
  20. I think part of it is that he is long and lean, so he has the power but she can swing that swing day in and day out and not get injured. His power is so effortless. Many other golfers have to get in the gym and bulk up to do what DJ's natural talents allow him to do.
  21. If anything, Id say shaft flex is looked at way too much. Theres been various studies that have show that shaft flex really doesnt matter and its really more of a feel thing.
  22. As someone who works in manufacturing, doing heavy manual labor every day and who used to be pretty big into weight training; I can tell you that braces help but really all that is going to heal and prevent tendonitis is ice, heat, stretching and rest. There may be drugs or natural remedies out there that will reduce or mask the pain but all its doing is numbing the pain and pain is a sign that you are doing damage to your body. For many years, when I still lifted pretty hard, I would suffer from tendonitis and I kind of just dealt with it and ignored the pain. When I stopped lifting, wouldnt you know it, the pain gradually went away. I also have tendonitis in my knees from working in a factory and walking on concrete all day long. I know that when my knees start to hurt and they get stiff and achy, its time for a new pair of shoes. Also, Ive noticed that magically, when I take some time off of work, my knees suddenly dont hurt so much anymore and when Im off for a week or more, they dont hurt at all. Weird, huh? f
  23. Is leaving the flagstick in really a problem or is it people who jam their hand into the hole, with little to no regard for the damage they are doing? IMO, you have a small percetage of people who dont like change and are taking it out on the golf course. I was leaving the flag in long before the governing bodies told me to and I will continue to do so. If others want to remove the flag, thats cool but theres really no reason to do so. The time it saves should be obvious and numerous studies have shown that youre more likely to make the putt with the flag in anyways.
  24. I tried this for a couple months last year and found that Im better with driver because the head is bigger and because I dont hit a 3-wood much straighter than I do my driver. I found that it put more pressure on me to hit my 3-wood perfectly because if I mishit it, I could forget about par on that hole. My driver, on the other hand, I can mishit it a little bit and still get good enough distance that even if I miss the fairway, I would advance the ball far enough that I can at least hit a recovery shot and have a chance at par. That and the huge head of a modern driver instills you with so much confidence, that theres really no reason not to hit it. I really kicked myself last year when I went to Arcadia Bluffs over the 4th of July and didnt pack my driver because I was kind of nervous and not hitting my 3-wood well shattered what little confidence I had.
