  1. I listened to and greatly enjoyed this episode. I found myself saying, "yup" and agreeing with everything that was said.
  2. For me, its a classic heel shafted blade, such as the Wilson 8802. All feel, no gimmicks. Even some of the similar mid mallet designs are quite good to me and suit my eye.
  3. I subscribe to and enjoy both. I like both for their club reviews and their honesty.
  4. I wish that I knew any golfers like that. Most people I know and even randoms who I get paired up with, when they are bad at golf, they dont seem to enjoy it much. I cant imagine how it would be much fun to slice your drives into the woods, top your fairway wood, duff your chips and 3-putt every hole. I know that for me, even when I dont score very well, I still enjoy golf when I pure an iron or when I shot works out exactly like I planned.
  5. IMO, much of it is because golf is expensive and takes dedication to play at a level where its enjoyable. Most people dont have the drive, dedication or time to practice enough to play golf well. Most just want to never pick up a club, play a few times a year but still play well enough to where golf is enjoyable. Thats not realistic for most, if any.
  6. Ive got a C130 cart bag that Ive had for about 8 years now. Its an awesome bag but yeah, it wasnt cheap.
  7. I started out with interlock and then switched to overlap and havent looked back. I originally went to interlock because thats what Tiger and Jack did, so I figured that must be the best way. I find that with interlock, while it does really lock my hands together, it also limits my wrist hinge. Also, supposedly overlap is better because it takes 1 of your fingers of your dominant hand off of the club, so it makes you hands work together better. Supposedly.
  8. What does the Titleist do that is any different than what every other OEM is doing? Take Titleist's best and compare it to what Callaway and Taylormade are doing and you see nothing special from Titleist. I used to be a pretty big Titleist fanboy. The 1st set of namebrand irons I ever bought was a set of DCI 981s and to this day I still enjoy playing them from time to time because they are such beautiful, classic-looking, sweet irons. A couple years ago, I bought a set of AP1s and really wanted to like them but they were just awful.
  9. They may be winning on tour but you could take those same players, put any other gear in their bag and they would still win. Titleist makes good gear but IMO they rely too much on their brand image and too little on actual innovation or quality. Ever since Titleist got bought by FILA they have been coasting and resting on their laurels, IMO.
  10. I honestly couldnt care less either way. If he does, good for him and it will great to see history being made, if he doesnt, he still will have had a great career and you could still make a case for him being the GOAT.
  11. I think that, "good" can be a very different thing to different people. For some, "good" means breaking 100, for others that might mean breaking 90, 80 or 70. IMO, most of us never really feel that we ever are good at golf. When people hear that Im a golfer and they ask me if Im good at it, I always tell them that Im just, "OK" and that if I really were any good at it, Id be playing golf for a living instead of working a normal job. Anyways, to answer your question, it took me probably about 5 years to get where I felt like I knew what I was doing. Much of it for me was my mental game and learning how to cope with the ups and downs that we all encounter on the course. I started playing golf when I was in my late teens, so part of that was simply growing up, gaining self confidence and learning that having a bad round of golf isnt that big of a deal.
  12. Hogan irons are legit. I dont have a set but a couple years ago I was gaming their wedges and hybrid, as well as demoing their irons. The VKTR hybrid didnt work for me. I just could never develop a good feel for it.
  13. Hasnt this been pretty common knowledge for a number of years now? We all know that especially in the early days, neither his clubs nor his balls were made by Nike.
  14. I could see it being beneficial because instead of having to cut the shaft to length, they can just make 1 length putter and then the user can adjust it to whatever length they want.
  15. Ive tried it. I find that I get too flippy with it and tend to hit pulls or snap hooks.
  16. If Im playing 9 holes I'll walk but not if Im playing 18. I work 50-60 hours a week in a factory, so Im on my feet 9-10 hours a day. Between that and my normal workout routines (running and weight training), I figure that I get enough exercise.
  17. IMO, groove sharpeners dont work because all they do is cut the grooves deeper. If the shoulder of the grooves are still worn down and rounded off, thats not going to really help. What you really want to do is to CNC mill the face of the wedge, so that the shoulders of the grooves and sharp and square again, like when the club was new.
  18. My team should be obvious. I think they will win 10 games this year and win the Big Ten West. I dont believe they are going to beat Alabama today but you never know. With Bama having a young QB and trying to find their identity on offense, they have a chance if Bama struggles to move the ball. We shall see. As for who will win the national championship, its going to be either Ohio State or Michigan State. I dont believe that any of the SEC, Pac-12 or Big 12 teams can beat whoever wins the Big Ten.
  19. Hogan talks about just that in, "5 Lessons". He teaches that ball position is the same, you just adjust your stance width and get wider as clubs get longer.
  20. Use whatever grip works for you. Ive experimented with all 3. I started out with the interlock because Tiger and Jack used it, then I switched to the overlap/Varden because I felt like the interlock limited my wrist action too much. Ive tried the 10 finger too but felt like it caused me to get too wristy, it did give me a little more distance when my timing was right though.
  21. I just picked up a set of Titleist AP1s, a Vokey 52* and a Scotty Cameron Bullseye. Up until about 7 years ago, I was a huge Titleist ho and it would seem that Ive rediscovered my Titleist love. My first set of, "real" irons were Titleist DCI 981s and my first, "real" putter was a Titleist Bullseye.
  22. I just picked up a used set of Mizuno MP-58s from Golfsmith for $300. I was there a couple weeks ago and they had a nice set of JPX-800 Pros that I was intended on buying but some jerk already bought them, so these 58s were a nice 2nd choice.
  23. I just bought a Taylormade Lambeau putter off of Ebay. Im actually perfectly happy with my current putter but what with my Wisconsin bag that Ive made, how could I not have a Lambeau putter?
  24. I used to never be a watch guy until a couple years ago. Im a watch wearer now though and I like it. No other reason just because I like the way it feels. I dont have an expensive watch, just a cheapie $50 Casio G-Shock from Target. Id love to have a nice Seiko or Citizen but right now spending money on other, more practical things take a higher priority.
