  1. Mizuno for me. Everyone else can fight over the hype, meanwhile Mizuno has released yet another great driver that no one cares about.
  2. It does for me. If I tee it high, like theyve been telling us to do for the past 20 years, I tend to hit a popup from time to time because if I am off a bit or dont keep my head behind the ball, I will hit down on it. If I just tee it a bit lower, where the ball is in the middle of the clubface, even if Im off a bit, its still an acceptable drive. If I lose a little distance, Im OK with it because 10% less distance on every tee shot is better than a 50% loss on occasion and a ding in the crown of my driver.
  3. I was thinking the same thing before I clicked on this thread. Really? Its a tee. LOL Im glad to see Vice branching into other things but youre never going to sell me on giving up my wooden tees.
  4. I was going to say Bridgestone/Tourstage but I was thinking the same thing. Id sworn Ive seen some JDM offering with a similar design. Zen also had a putter with a similar design.
  5. Ive golfed more, mostly because I was on furlough for 6 weeks and had nothing but time last spring.
  6. Right now, Id have to go with Finau. He's been right on the doorstep a bunch of times. Fowler seems like he'd rather hang out with his wife (cant say I blame him) than to work on his golf game.
  7. I wouldnt relegate yourself to GI irons just because you may not be hitting the ball as far as you used to or think youre supposed to be playing GI irons. Sometimes, feel is more important than distance.
  8. You could make the argument that the entire team is a bunch of ring-chasers. They loaded that team up, trying to lure Brady and when Brady went there, he brought a few others with him. It will be interesting to see if they can keep the team together or if the players will go elsewhere for more money. When you consider that the average NFL career is less than 5 years, the young guys need to make money and if theyre no longer a favorite to win the Super Bowl, most of the older guys will retire or go elseway for 1 last payday. I see too that Brees is talking about talking the league minimum so that the Saints can load up on talent for 1 last Superbowl run for him. That could throw a big ole monkeywrench in the Bucs' plans. LOL As a Packer fan, Im hoping to see my team draft a great young wide reciever to give Rodgers another target and draft some more defense. If the Bucs and Brady think that the rest of the league is going to just lay down and let him win 2 or 3 Superbowls in Tampa, he'd better guess again.
  9. I havent yet seen in it stores but I work in an automotive manufacturing plant and Ive seen people walking around in the cafeteria or walking into work with the music on their phone blaring to where everyone could hear it. I found it a bit rude and selfish but thats kind of how people are these days. Its all about me, me, me.
  10. If you have a 19 degree hybrid and like it, Id probably go with something like a 22 degree hybrid. A 5-wood would probably hit the ball just as far, if not farther than your 19 degree hybrid. As for matching shafts between your driver and woods, you can if you want but its not a rule. I personally dont go out of my way to have them match but Im not someone who gets too hung up on shafts.
  11. Censorship? LOL I was always taught that you dont discuss someone else's money and that a gentleman doesnt ask how much others make and doesnt tell people how much he makes. Its none of my business how much these guys or anyone else makes and for a commentator to say, "that missed putt just cost him $500K" would just be classless, IMO. I know that some of these guys make more in a day that I will in my entire lifetime. Im OK not being reminded of that.
  12. The topic of distance is a funny one because no matter what the USGA and R&A do, someone is going to be unhappy. If they do nothing, the traditionalists will be unhappy because modern equipment is, "ruining the game" and if they do something to limit distance, the weekend hackers and pros will be unhappy because its limiting their performance. I honestly dont know what the right answer is but I do have concerns with distance as it currently is and what it could be in the future because, as Ive said many times in the past, you cant just keep making golf courses longer and longer, for many reasons. Some courses simply dont have the space and cant just buy up more land to make the course longer, not to mention the costs associated with watering, fertilizing and mowing more and more grass. Especially with courses where they have limits on water usage and are in places that often face drought, its a real problem for them. So, telling them, "just make your course longer" isnt a good solution. I also think its an interesting one because how do you compare different eras of golf when the equipment is so different. As someone who often plays vintage clubs, I can tell you that playing a modern, 460cc driver is vastly different than playing an old, 180cc persimmon wood. Not to mention the difference in all the other clubs in the bag. Really, irons are the only part of the bag where I feel that modern gear isnt lightyears better. I'll put my old Mizuno blades up against any modern iron and feel like they would win that comparison, especially if you compare them with modern irons of similar loft. To me, a good comparison would be baseball. Could you imagine if they told baseball players that they could use aluminum bats? It would turn baseball into a home run derby. Can you imagine then, that when people complained, they told the teams to just build bigger ballparks? It just wouldnt work and thats kind of where I feel like it is with golf. Now, I know that Im a traditionalist. If it were up to me, metalwoods, graphite shafts and oversize mallet putters like the Spyder would be bananed because, to me, they take away from the sporting aspect of the game, to a certain extent. However, you also have those who would tell you that forcing that equipment on people takes away from their enjoyment of the game and that making golf more difficult would drive people away, which is a fair argument. Personally, I dont really care what they do but I am kind of tired of it coming up all the time. I'll show up to the course and play with whatever gear I can and have a great time either way. If that means that I play a ball that the pros dont play or I play a ball that only gives me 80% of my current distance; so be it. For me, my enjoyment of golf has much more to do with just the joy of playing and not so much with the score I shoot or how far I can hit the ball.
  13. Id say that you just need to play smarter golf. Learn how to play safe shots and get the ball into the fairway when you miss. Id recommend watching Golfsidekick's Youtube videos where he talks about the, "way of the playa". Its all about playing smart, safe golf and avoiding the big number.
  14. Ive got KC but it wont be a blowout. Tampa has too much talent and their defense is too good. Im going to go 24-17. I just see KC as having too much talent at QB, TE and the running back positions. Tampa has to play a nearly perfect game, their defense has to be perfect and they will need to get a couple turnovers. Lets not forget that Tampa is lucky to just be here and if it werent for a no-call and a bad call; it would be KC vs Green Bay.
  15. I dont really carry one anymore but back in the late '90s, when I first started playing golf, I carried a 1 and 2-iron. They were King Snake irons, which are counterfits but I remember them actually being pretty decent clubs. When I hit it well, it would produce a nice little stinger shot that stayed low, out of the wind and rolled out pretty far. Currently, I have a Mizuno MP Fli-Hi 3H, which is 21 degrees and probably would have been considered a 2-iron back in the day. I like it. Its got a nice, slim iron profile but has a bit more meat behind the ball and is pretty easy to hit.
  16. The only problem with that is you cant just continue to make golf courses longer. Golf already has ecological issues with land use and theres some courses that simply cant be lengthened. Does anyone really want to see a course like Pebble Beach eliminated as a possible major championship venue? If something isnt done, a lot of classic courses will have to be eliminated.
  17. Id go 54/58. It seems kind of silly to me to have a 50, 52, 56 and 60 because the gapping would be just odd.
  18. Ive played this ball a few times in the past and its a good ball. I find that it performs well and seems fairly durable. I have found that wedge shots will scuff the cover over time but Id say that goes for pretty much any urethane covered ball.
  19. Crazy claims from Callaway are nothing new. Its one of the many reasons why Ive never been a huge fan of Callaway.
  20. For a couple years I played golf in Mizuno trail running shoes. At the time, I was a huge Mizuno fanboy and wanted Mizuno golf shoes but they obviously arent available in the states, so those were the next best thing. They actually worked quite well and I wouldnt hesitate to do the same thing again if I didnt want traditional golf shoes (saddle shoes).
  21. All I'm saying is be consistent. You don't let it go in the 1st half and then call it at the end of the game. The refs influenced the outcome, no question. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  22. Either you call it all or you don't and the interference they didn't call on the int was just as bad. I just want them to be consistent but clearly the league decided Brady in the superbowl is what's best for business. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  23. More like the refs bailed Brady out again. That interception at the end of the 1st half that set up the touchdown shouldnt have stood because of interference and the refs shouldnt have thrown that 3rd down flag for holding. For those who would say a foul is a foul, why were they letting them play and not throwing a single flag all during the 1st 3 quarters only to throw it on a critical 3rd down play that decided the game? Ugh. Disgusting.
  24. I dont know about all that. When Tiger was younger, he swung so hard and had a swing that is hard on your knees and back. Not to mentiion he spent a lot of time bulking up in the weight room and he ran a lot. All of those things spell joint issue when you get older. I certainly have to disagree with the "no fault of their own" part. I also dont know that Id say hes done it all. Jack still has more majors and the what could have been is just how many majors could Tiger have won if he hadnt been so hard on his body when he was younger and if he hadnt wasted so many years on all of the off-course nonsense that he brought upon himself. Tiger should have gone down in history as the undesputed greatest golfer ever but I dont see him catching, much less passing Jack in terms of major wins and thats always going to be an argument of those who say Tiger isnt the GOAT. Ive got the utmost of respect for Tiger but if we're going to tell it like it is, well, there it is.
  25. Tommy Armour 845. $220. Ive got an older model, the Tommy Armour Atomic and its an awesome driver. Forgiving and long.
