  1. Im skeptical that putter style and putting stroke should match. You can have a blade putter that is face balanced and you can have a mallet that has toe hang.
  2. I dont know about all that. I doubt that most people even realized that Brooks played Mizunos. All that really matters to most people is the logo that is on a player's hat. Besides, JPX was a thing long before Brooks started playing them.
  3. Yeah, I mean you could say that Crosfield went from being a Mizuno fanboy to a Srixon fanboy but at least when he was Mizuno, it was because it seemed like he genuinely loved the brand, whereas now it seems like Srixon sponsors the videos and he's pushing the product because he's paid to do so. 4. I could certainly understand a temper tantrum from the pros more than I could some random person who plays once or twice a year, never practices and then gets mad when they miss a 4' putt. When youre playing for millions or dollars or in the case of some, to put food on the table and to be able to afford to make it to the next tournament; theres a lot of pressure and a lot on the line. Then you take someone like me: a 15 handicap who has a decent game but doesnt hit the ball all that far and just isnt precise enough. As someone who plays once a week, never practices and plays golf for fun; what business do I have in getting angry if I miss a 4' putt?
  5. Looks matter to me. I absolutely cannot stand looking down at a mallet or something with a ton of offset. To me, the best putters ever made always have been with the heel shafted blades (8802 style) or Bullseyes. Anything after that is just meh to me.
  6. Same. I used to really like Crossfield but he has kind of turned into a Srixon guy. I believe they sponsor him. Shiels is my current favorite because he tells it how he sees it and is pretty entertaining. For me, any club review video is really more entertainment than it is something that is actually going to sway me to or from a certain club. They are all biased and they are all doing paid reviews, not to mention a club that someone else likes, you may absolutely hate.
  7. I could have saved you 30 minutes of your life and just told you to get some Pro V1s. Unless you say that price is your main consideration, Titleist always wants to put you into a Pro V.
  8. Id go with the tour level urethane. I dont tend to lose balls like I used to and wouldnt want to give up the control of a tour ball. As much as I want to love cheap, 2-piece balls; they simply dont spin enough and dont check up on the green like I want a ball to. Same with a non-urethane 3-piece ball. It doesnt matter how many pieces it is. If its not urethane, it doesnt spin.
  9. Id say its really more feel, distance control and consistency than it is workability. With blades, the distance is more consistent and you instantly know whether you hit it solidly or not. I go back and forth between blades and CBs and I find that when I practice and play enough to hit the blades well, they are a much more consistent club. I still find with CBs that I sometimes will have a weird shot where I hit the ball way farther than I should. Its actually something that I really struggled with when I tested the Tommy Armour Atomic irons and eventually caused me to turn away from them.
  10. Sometimes saying nothing is the best thing that you can say. You dont want to give them some encouragement and have them feel like you are patronizing them. Id just try to be supportive when they hit a good one. Beyond that, just leave them be.
  11. The fact that you may or may not hear this or something worse every day doesnt matter. He shouldnt have said it. Period. It shows a real lack of maturity on JT's part and I hope he learns and is a better man for it. There was a time when golf was a gentleman's game but those days are clearly long gone.
  12. Id agree with someone like Yoda or Dr Strange because they can hit the ball and then guide it to exactly where they want with their mind, the force, etc... As someone who practices Zen/Buddhism myself, theres all these old stories about Zen masters acquiring super powers. Im still waiting on that one. Being able to manipulate the ball with telekinesis would be a game-changer. I guess for now I'll just have to settle for enlightenment. (kidding)
  13. "Five Lessons" by Ben Hogan. My brother in law got it for me and while it is a very thoughtful gift, I was telling my wife that for most people, what Hogan talks about in that book is pretty much the opposite of what you should do. Considering that Hogan fought a hook and most high handicappers fight a slice, its not a good book for a high cap, IMO. Its still a great book and I wouldnt expect my BIL to know that but yeah...anyways...
  14. Mine does. My natural shot shape either a slight draw or dead straight. At worst, it becomes a strong draw or a slight hook. It allows me to just aim for the right side of the hole and let the ball drift back to the left.
  15. The best advice Ive ever gotten it still the advice that my neibor gave me when I first got into golf back in '99. He was an old, retired Army vet who fought in Korea and later became a teacher. Full-blooded Irish. He turned me on to big band music (used to call it the greatest music ever made) and drove an old Chevy K5 Blazer that had an horn that would play the General Lee horn and back in the day played with a full set of Hogan Apex clubs and a leather staff bag so, yeah, cool dude. Anyways, he told me when I first got into golf that I should never take the game seriously. He told me, "if you take golf seriously, it will eat you alive." Its something that Ive always tried to take to heart and I really think its one of my strengths on the golf course. Im so calm and cool and I never let any bad shot or even bad round get me down. I also never let a good shot or good round let me get too high or too confident because I know its fleeting. I play with a lot of randoms and many of them marvel at many things about my game. Most of them marvel at how silky smooth my swing is (Ive even had some compare my swing to Fred Couples, which is quite a complment. One of my budies even told me that I look like Im not even trying but the ball just goes and goes). What most dont notice though is how grounded and calm I am, almost like I dont even care. Ive always looked at it like I play golf for fun, not to make a living; so why would I get upset?
  16. Yet somehow the government is forcing the USPS to cut jobs, cut benefits and close post offices. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  17. Not to get political but thats what happens when the government cuts their budget. We should be investing in the postal service and giving them a bigger budget, not cutting it.
  18. Im pretty oldschool. I love my FJ Dryjoy Tours in croc. Ive always been a fan of saddle shoes for golf. Before my FJs, I had a pair of Sketchers that were more of a sneaker/tennis shoe style and they were OK but were kind of blah.
  19. In theory, its to increase the MOI and make the putter more forgiving. Im sure there is a mental aspect to it as well. A wider head inspires confience and makes you feel like you cant miss.
  20. Im actually pretty happy with my current set and I dont really have my eye on any new clubs. Id probably go for a golf trip next year though. Last summer, my wife and I did 3 days at Arcadia Bluffs in Michigan and it was an awesome experience. I could go for a trip to Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run in Kohler, WI though. As someone who was born and raised in Wisconsin, its kind of embarrasing that Ive never played there. My wife's cousin is getting married in Wisconsin next year and I am planning on taking a week off work and playing at Grand Geneva when Im there and then probably making the drive up to Kohler, along with visiting family while Im there.
  21. Perhaps but you could also argue that trying to hit hero shots so that you get closer to the whole brings in a whole new level of risk, which is what Golfsiderkick's, "way of the playa" is about avoiding and theres really no case to be made against that. You can talk strokes gained all you want but theres no debating that trying to always hit the ball as far as you can is dumb golf. Just ask Bryson how that worked out for him at the Masters this year. LOL
  22. If you watch Golf Sidekick's videos on Youtube he will always say that instead of just trying to hit the ball as far as possible all the time, you should try to play the ball to yardages that you are comfortable with, even if that means you hit a shorter club. Why try a delicate pitch shot when you could just lay up to 120 yards and hit a stock full shot with a wedge?
  23. Ugh. Sad. The Open wont be the same without him.
  24. Id say probably the person who cheats in a scramble or casual game because they are cheating and gaining nothing in return. I understand cheating when something big is on the line but cheating when youre playing with your buddies? Stupid.
