myherobobhope got a reaction from cksurfdude in Has anyone tried Jumbomax grips?
I tossed one on a wedge as a $15 experiment... they are not conducive to the type of short wedge shots I hit!
Now that I’m taking full swings again, I might try it again... it will definitely keep your wrist stable, but might eliminate the ability to hit a draw...

Excited to give these a test... still working on some swing adjustments, so the ball will see a range of swings...
Hopefully they send enough that i don't have to break into the backyards of my neighborhood course to recover errant tee shots!

myherobobhope got a reaction from WFWP91 in SeeMore Putter: unofficial review
Hi! I'm somewhat new here (ignore the joined in 2012 part, focus on the less than 50 posts)... I searched and didn't see any SeeMore putter reviews in here, and figured I'd write about my experience...
Backstory: I've been playing golf actively since the early 90s. Since about 95 I have had 5 putters. In high school I bought a Zebra putter, and then replaced it with a Hog mallet. After high school (around 2000), I replaced the Hog with an Odyssey DFx 2 ball. In 2012, I replaced the 2 ball with a Counterbalanced Tank #7. It was purchased with store credit I had won sinking a 20 foot putt for eagle during a large skins game (I also got strokes on the hole... it was a good day). Why did I replace my 2 ball with a Tank? I don't know. The next year, my wife selfishly gave birth and my golf game went on hiatus... In 2018, I started playing golf again. My whole golf career has been marred by mediocre putts. You know that guy who sinks the unmakeable 50 foot putt to win a match on the last hole? That guy isn't me. My putting has always been the weak spot in my game... and like any mature, rational adult, I just ignored it and focused on the parts of the game I liked. Until I came up lame with a back injury (torn cartilage) last summer, I was playing pretty well...
The Day that will live in infamy: Ok, infamy implies people care. I don't even care and it happened to me. But infamy looks cool in bold. Anyways... I spent the summer of 2020 trying to play as much golf as possible. I did OK. I was playing with my father during one round, and managed to hit the first 10 greens in regulation. My driving and ball striking were on point. I did not have any putts over 30 feet across the 10 holes. I also did not have any birdies. I did have 2 3 putts, for a 2 over stretch.. with 10 greens in regulation. Ugh. Having watched some videos on YouTube, which is always a good and helpful way to spend time, I saw a pro talk about putting with his eyes closed... I did the only logical thing and started putting with my eyes closed. I didn't putt any better, but I didn't putt any worse... Putting with my eyes closed opened my eyes (that's word play, friends) and made me realize I couldn't keep doing what I was doing... it was time to make some changes.
Cue David Bowie:
CHANGES: So this was in July, at the time, my hip hurt, but I didn't think much of it. PAIN DON'T HURT. I started doing things like gate drills, and just generically spending more time on the putting green and practicing. My season ended in August at the Member-Member... A doctor I played with suggested I had hurt my sciatic nerve, I started down the long road known as "dealing with the Health Insurance world" and got my first epidural in October... I stopped playing golf, but kept practicing my putting as much as I could... I knew my putter was an issue, but wasn't sure what exactly I needed to do about it... My golf pro mentioned our assistant pro was both currently an Edel fitter, and soon to send his Edel kit back as he was no longer an Edel fitter. I asked him to fit me before he sent it back, which he did gratis. (This is a whole different issue, but I do take care of the golf shop... not in a tit for tat sort of way, but more of a keeping them happy because they work hard way).
Edel Fitting: Man, that cart is cool. We went through a number of options, talked about heads, shafts, hosels, bends, aiming, counterbalance... it was informative. He then put a string on the ground and had me hit balls at it... basically trying to adjust for speed and see what counter balance setup was correct for me... It went poorly. We found the best possible fit, but the wheels in my head were spinning... I knew what edel putter I wanted, but he was no longer an edel fitter and couldn't order me the customized putter I wanted... I didn't LOVE the setup, but it was better than what i had... More than anything, I liked the way they are counterbalanced. During this time, I also tried a LAB putter. I still think they are cool, but not the right fit for me.
SeeMore: They had always been on my radar... I had hit some, joked around with them on social media and they are about 3 hours south of me (Louisville to Nasvhille). I had some free time, and they had some availability for a fitting in late January. I got up early one morning, started my first relisten to the Chasing Scratch podcast, and drove to Nashville. This was a business trip. My first since the pandemic started... it was time to get down... to business... I got to the office, met Cody, and we got to work. He put my putter on a scale, tried to get it's swingweight (he didn't CALL me an idiot... but lets just say it was too heavy to register a swingweight) and then he hooked it up to the SAM. I rolled some putts, and he went over my data... If people are interested, I can post them. From there, we discussed how I was set up, how I was stroking the ball, and what I needed to do to improve. I had told him at the beginning I was a bad putter and wanted to get better. He tried his best to help me. We discussed drills to do, he sold me a training aid to help with my tempo... We discussed budget, and he kept things reasonable... I'm not sure they have unreasonably priced putters, but he made sure I was putting with something in my budget... Honestly, it was a very appreciated part of the conversation.
At the end, he gave me 2 options... one was $225 and one was $350ish... The more expensive one was slighty better, and I liked the way it looked... with a $150 fitting fee, and a training aid, I ended up spending just over $500 for everything... I think it's a reasonably price for a custom built putter... I could have saved $100 on a different putter, but oh well. Cody had all my specs (and shared them with me), put the order in for my putter, and sent me all my SAM data. Another nice customer service perk, he gave me all the information from my fitting for me to look over... I appreciated the transparency.
About a week later, I got the putter.... and by February I was able to get some time with it outside on decent days... I was still nursing my back, so I took it slow and just practiced putting for a month... Worked on tempo drills, and simply got used to a putter that wasn't made from depleted uranium.
On the Course: I've finally gotten some rounds in! My back is healthy, and I've started to get to enjoy the game of golf again... of course it snowed in April, so not as much golf as I would like... but I've gotten in multiple rounds this month. My putting has been good! Not great, and there have been some hiccups, but I blame that directly on myself and 20 years of bad putting technique. I'm still working on the pendulum motion and have been leaving things 6-24 inches short fairly consistently... I've been so focused on not having a short back swing and a JAB putting stroke, that I've almost moved to completely NOT starting the putter... This is a technique issue, and I'm getting better. I've rolled some great putts with it, and I'm very happy.
Separating the putter from the fitting: One of the things I've been thinking about is whether or not the $150 putting lesson was the important part, and how much a "new" putter has helped my game... I think it's important to find a putter you like and are confident with, and from there it is 100% technique. I like my SeeMore. it's a good putter, it's built to my specs (37 inches long, but I grip way down on it, so it plays to 36), the correct lie (I can look it up) and the correct loft (3 degrees for my greens, which run at a 10 most days)... It's a tool that was built for me and when I use it with good technique it performs. The Rifle Scope Technology (also known as the goofy red dot) is a great tool for making sure you are lined up correctly. I think the putter itself looks pretty good... the putting lesson, and training aid, were both huge helps, though... but the whole package was tied together. At the end of the day, I paid SeeMore $500 to help make me a better putter, and the final package included a great training aid, a putting lesson with Cody and a new putter built to my specs. I think I got a good deal overall, and I'm excited about where my putting is going to head this season.
My putting stats: I averaged about 34.5 putts a round last year as a 6 handicap... My three full rounds I tracked this season I had 35, 35 and 30 putts... I'm definitely still adjusting to the putter, but I'm very happy with the direction I'm heading... The 30 putt round was much more indicative as I was more focused on my putting during that round. I think once I get comfortable with the new putting stoke, I'll be around 32 putts per round, which is the standard average for a 6 handicap.
Conclusion: I had a wonderful experience with SeeMore at SeeMore. If you are driving distance from Nashville and struggling with your putter, it's definitely worth the trip. The facility itself is just a store front in an industrial warehouse, so don't expect anything fancy! The people inside are what make the trip worth it... Cody is very knowledgeable, friendly and wants to help people putt better. I'm not sure what else he could have done to help me, and he told me his door was always open. It was a wonderful experience, and I'm still just blown away that a guy who fits PGA pros took 2 hours out of his day (plus responding to e-mails) just to help me out.
10/10. Would spend $500 there again...

Got some testing done in between a Srixon fitting (also, I'm buying new Srixon irons)... Here are my overall thoughts:
Quick Conclusion: T3 spins more than T4. This is the only difference I have noticed thus far.
After warming up for my demo day, I went and putted and chipped with the two balls to see if I noticed any differences around the green... This was not scientific at all, I just kept hitting one of each ball and seeing if I noticed anything different between the two. My chipping has been mediocre, so this was more an excuse to practice getting up and down than anything else... overall, I did not notice any difference. Both felt similar around the green and with the putter... I tend not to care what I'm putting with, but these two felt the same... I'll do some lag drills with all 6 and see if there are any noticeable difference tomorrow.
After the demo day, I "played" 10 on my way home... It's a wide open hole perfect for testing shots... I usually have about 100 yards into the green after a good shot... I teed up 20 yards behind where I usually tee off from, but was still around the 150 mark... I didn't flush either ball, but the 4 flew further than the 3... both had fade spin, and the 3 moved more left to right... Both balls were in the rough and playable (this was 100% a swing issue)... then, as it started to rain, I dropped at around 100 and hit a 54 degree wedge at the pin. Fortunately, both balls landed on the green.
A 100 degree 54 is about a 3/4 swing for me, and the 4 landed and bounced slightly forward, and the 3 stayed exactly where it was put... It wasn't a HUGE difference, but I believe the 3 spins slightly more.
I think, overall, both balls will have too much spin for my current swing but I think the 3 is slightly MORE spinny... I'll hopefully get out to do a more thorough testing this week.

Just got the balls here in Kentucky on a cold and wet day... my course is closed, my golf cart needs new tires... so there is only one thing to do, and it's over analyze the golf balls I just received! So let's begin... I brought in my own control ball, mostly because I have 2 sleeves sitting in the garage... Titleist AVX that I bought on a whim... I have some random ProV1s in the bag from the course, but I don't know them well enough to know which year they are or anything like that... So the AVX is going to be my point of comparison... As previously noted, there isn't an A or B, these are just balls labeled "Titleist" with a number...
Conspiracy Theory #1: I think they were labeled 3 and 4 because people would have bias against balls labelled 1 and 2... even 2 and 3 would create a problem... I have no data to back up this claim, but it's obviously true. I'm only ordered balls with 1 or 0 on it moving forward. It will obviously help my game.
Dimples: The only obvious point of comparison on the balls right now would be the dimples... The AVX dimples seem to be slightly flatter, while both mystery balls are more round and deeper... based on the visuals of the dimples, I can quickly pick the AVX out. The other two balls are very similar from a visual perspective. My guess is these are the same dimples on the ProV balls... Someone else can confirm this. All three balls have small markings on them... AVX: ZL T3: CZ T4: TP (does that stand for TOUR PROFESSIONAL. PLEASE LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE TO MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL FOR OTHER GUESSES). I'm curious if others have the same markings... I'm sure they are just factory codes, but also... the numbers, what do they mean?
Dimple Pattern / Seam: I'm old enough to remember when you would line the seam of the ball up down the fairway and it would net you an extra 20 yards... The seams on these are much less noticeable... I had originally written I couldn't find a seam, but then I found it on the AVX and went back to look at the mystery balls. I found it on the T3 relatively quickly... it's findable on the T4 but less noticeable... Overall, I'm still just very impressed with the manufacturing capabilities of Titleist. Kudos to them.
The dimple pattern, to my untrained eye, appears to be the same across the balls... it appears to be mostly large dimples, with an occassional repeating pattern of 6 smaller dimples and occasionally 2 even smaller dimples. Titleist has found a pattern that works, so I'm not going to question it... I'm also unwilling to count the dots.
So, in conclusion: The main differences I've seen VISUALLY is a less noticeable seam and deeper divots than the AVX.

If you want to support a smaller company with outstanding customer service, buy some sub70... they make quality equipment too.
I have two black wedges and some rounds in on them... they’ve held up well and the wedge designs work for me. I have a 286 54 with higher bounce for sand shots and most easy chips... I have a low bounce jb 58 for the delicate stuff... both function great.
my least favorite sub70 club is my 639 cb 5 iron... it’s fine! Perfectly acceptable five iron... it was my first purchase from sub70. No complaints, but I can’t wax eloquent about a five iron.
699 4 utility is a Goldilocks club for me... I disliked all the other driving irons... most felt too clunky and the ping felt hollow... this one feels just right. Also great for flighting down for stingers. I did miss a green in two with it from 220 my last round, but I got up and down with my sub70 wedge!
my pro hybrid is, I think, a good example of them progressing as a company... it’s well built, came in an incredible package and flat out performs. The movable weights are great and the club feels solid. It replaced an Adams hybrid that I loved and the old hybrid didn’t stand a chance.
I also love their visors... I actually paid for the one in my avatar... Jason dmed me when I jokingly asked for one with an order and included my other visor for free on Twitter.

I'm officially a 5 as of today... and down 10 lbs over the month... so doing well on both fronts...
I think there is a lot of overlap between diet strategy and golf strategy... set yourself up for success, don't let one bad decision derail you, and keep grinding... the second you give up, your score and your weight both blow up... it's all about staying focused, even if the past hasn't gone the way you want.
On improving diet and golf, everyone is different and needs different things... some people just don't know anything about nutrition, and some just need better habits to build self control... i do well when there isn't much junk in the house... buying a new grill and experimenting with smoked meats hasn't been great for my diet, but it's mostly dinner, so I can make up for it by eating less during the day... Caloric reduction is the ONLY way to succeed...

Ok, so apparently I didn't set up the launch monitor correctly to record the data on my session in the hitting bay today... oh well. It wasn't that remarkable! My spin numbers were a touch higher with the 3 ball with irons and hybrids... not a ton of difference, though... Honestly, variance would be enough to explain the difference. I also can't hit driver in my hitting bay as it's too small for me to swing driver (I'm tall and have a long finish)
I took the two balls out to my least favorite 433 par 4 and banged some drivers (I only had 2 of each for reasons)... on the first hole the #3 went slight farther, the 2 4s were well struck and right next to each other and the last #3 found it's way barely OB... My misses have CONSISTENTLY been bigger with the 3 ball, but I don't have enough reps in to really conclude it's the ball and not just me being a 6 handicap. The three drivers were all inside the 150 marker, so 280+ which I'm perfectly happy with.
Hit some pitching wedges at a green (I should have moved closer... I was pushing it!) hit on with one of each... the 4 spun slightly more, but I was happy with the results of both balls...
On the next hole, I crushed 3 drives into the fairway and had a hot pull left that was in bounds and closest to the pin (but in the rough)... I knocked some 50 yard wedges at the pin, and the #4 stopped closest, but the spin generated seemed about equal.
Overall, I think I like the 4 better... It might just be luck based, but I've seemed to hit better shots with it and gotten away with misses more... I'm going to play the 4 tomorrow during my round and then the 3 the next time I play and see if I notice any difference over 18 holes.

My story was very similar, but I have about 10 years on you. 3 years ago, I told myself that I wanted to lose 50 lbs by my 50th (about 10 months away at the time). Same story growing up... snowballing weight gain from my youth - even though I was very active in sports through high school. Then marriage and kids... and I was out of control weight wise.
Anyway, I used MyFitnessPal to track my daily caloric intake and met my original goal, and said... ok, 50 more by 50, then 50 more by 50. Unfortunately, I focused mostly on caloric reduction and lost muscle... so now I'm in the process of being more active and doing weight training to build strength and muscle back. Getting back into golf this year has helped me be more active, and due to my body mass change, and muscle loss... I've had to essentially re-learn the swing... but it has been a good and challenging journey.
Best of luck to your quest to enjoy your 40's in a different way than you did your 30's.
Now... about that 6 handicap.... and the inference in the profile pic... that is what I want to learn about!!!

Im a chronic dieter / fat kid… have always gone on diets for a couple weeks and then slowly fallen off of them… hoping to build better habits this time around.
mostly, my goal is to stay busy during the day, as when I’m idle, I eat.
tracking calories in my fitness pal, working out with fit for golf… and just trying to stay active during the day… we will see how this one goes.
i hit 40 next month, and I’d like to spent my 40s in better shape than I did my 30s… I’ve completely eliminated alcohol, so that should help!

38 / 37 - 75… my home course is tough (that’s a 1.3 differential) and 18 was playing 440 into the wind (I went driver, 3w and missed my par putt)… no real dramatics… consistently was near the green and had a par putt on every hole but the one I made birdie… was -1.5 strokes gained putting.
im really, really happy with where my game is right now… of course I have irons on order and am headed out of town for 2 weeks… we will see what the game looks like In august!

I'm around 105-110 and I prefer the #3. Played yesterday and that one felt a bit softer and had a lower trajectory on most shots that the #4. They both seem to spin enough for me to check on a long approach, got both to stop on a 170 par three with one hop using a 6 iron so that was pretty neat. I'm think #3 is a ProV1, by hitting it then the ProV1 back to back, #4 is probaly an X. Would be nice to find out!
