  1. Hey let me tell you sumthin. Sam Snead was the best damn driver of the ball the game has ever seen and he NEVER used no 460 cc G4M5BigBertha's Fat Ass piece of titanium crap! Every time I see some hack with one of those oversize pieces of garbage I know they can't drive the ball outta their dam shadow. Dustin Johnson my ass! Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  2. If anyone hasn't read the comments on the article itself, you're missing some real gems. Bobby Locke gets brought up for heaven's sake #topical Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  3. That's insane. I think they should always bracket handicap season long stuff so your early matches are relative ability Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  4. It's been a few years since I've read the handicap manual, but from what I recall the reason the strokes don't fall where they fall is not because the 2 and 18 hdcp are both likely to make bogey on the first and second handicap hole, but rather because those holes represent where players of differing ability levels are furthest apart in average score. So even when you play off the low ball that should still be true (if the committee handicapped the course by the USGA manual instead of just hardest-easiest or longest-shortest). I was handicap chair at my club for a couple years and really got in the weeds of what it says you're supposed to do. It's not perfect by any means but anyone who delves into it does come away with an appreciation of how much effort the USGA puts into trying to have an equitable system. I guess if everyone feels like they're getting screwed then it's probably pretty fair. Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  5. I always tape the butt end just so the metal doesn't end up cutting through Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  6. This has turned out to be an unpopular opinion! You're playing the game the right way. Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  7. Have no idea whether this opinion is unpopular or not, but Paul Azinger is terrible in the booth so far. If Johnny Miller was overly critical, Azinger is way too much of a cheerleader and thinks every shot is great. They are PGA Tour pros Paul. They should be able to execute standard shots. 8. I support his outrage, but I think the real villain here is the term eagle. It OBVIOUSLY should be double birdie and triple birdie! Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  9. And I think Bobby Grace made putters for Cobra around that same time. Maybe a few years earlier. Didn't Bettinardi also make a Hogan series at one point? Those Big Ben and Baby Ben mallets I think were Bettys Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  10. I'm not a fan but that has more to do with my distaste for their local rep. A good rep can really help a company's reputation but theirs is quite unpleasant and has spent decades lording his position over everyone in the industry. If you're in the business you need Pro V1s and Cameron putters and he knows it and acts like it. I won't buy their products. Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  11. MP-15s still have plenty of forgiveness built in so I don't think you need to worry that you're in old no tech musclebacks. It is a bit of heresy to say out loud that the data doesn't matter around here, but I think it's fine to say the data doesn't matter to you. If you like the feel of your clubs play away. Even if there's something else out there that would allow you to play your best a bit more often if you really took the time to drill down into exact fitting, your irons aren't the difference between playing for fun and playing on tour for any of us. I've played Srixon irons for ages. I used to own a retail golf store and the Srixon rep was really good to me and I thought they made great irons so I've played them ever since. I've always liked having something a little different. I have no idea if they're 100% the best fit I could possibly get but my handicap hasn't really changed in 20 years so they definitely aren't doing me any harm and they make me happy. I'm sure there's a different 4 or 5 iron out there that I could gain a little ball speed from or little more elevation out of but I'm really just looking for good enough out of those sorts of clubs anyway and these are good enough so I'm not going to worry about it. Now as I guy who is turning 50 this year, let me say that all of those numbers probably will start mattering to me as soon as I see my yardages start to drop. I know it's coming, I just don't know when!
  12. I think for me it's the constant effort to trick the player. His teeing grounds never really point down the fairway, there are always awkward angles (both off the tee and on approach), he likes to use a lot of competing breaks on the greens to fool you on the reads, all of that just gets tiresome. Plus I'm from C Indiana where we have a lot of early Dye efforts and Dye redesigns and after a while you just get like "yeah, yeah Pete Dye whatever" Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  13. I think Pete Dye courses are overrated Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  14. He can always take an unplayable as long as the ball itself is in bounds (which it was). In this case I have no idea why in the world he didn't just take the 2 club length Unplayable Lie option. To answer your Option 3- as long as he could keep the spot of the ball and the flag in a line he could go back on that line forever, provided that somewhere on that line is a spot that's in bounds. I'm guessing from the angle that option would have been out of bounds no matter how far he went back. Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  15. I hear ya. That stuff is hard to quantify. I guess smooth tempo could translate to someone more comfortable on faster greens which would mean a heavier putter or at least a softer feeling putter. I think of brisk tempo as someone who likes to hit putts instead of feed them. If you have a 4 footer with a little break in it do you jam it in or play the break? That probably tells you a lot about what you're looking for Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  16. It looks like as you stay in that 20* toe hang configuration and correct lie angle then mallet vs blade/answer style is really a matter of your own personal preference- at least according to Ping. Would really love to know if Edel fits you into a totally different framework. Is there a reason you're not going to just buy a Ping putter using their specs? 17. Of course. These are flops not chip shots but I think do a decent job of showing the arms and hands responding to the turning of the body on both sides of the ball. Even for a shot like this I'm not standing wide or striking hard with the hands and arms
  18. These are flop shots. They are not chip shots. sorry if was not clear about that. I was just trying to illustrate the use of the body and rotation in playing short game shots Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  19. These were 5-10 yard soft flops. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. As you can see clubface is wide open
  20. My stance is open and narrow with ball up. That seems to make it easier for me to hit sort of "turn-turn" chips and pitches. And I stand pretty tall instead of bending way over the ball. Even flops I play this way. These are from a practice session hitting about 5 yard softies last summer. Still photos aren't super useful but it does show how much turn I'm using on such a short shot. For me the key is softness in the hands and arms on both sides of the ball and turn turn. Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  21. I had the same thing Jan of last year, with some labrum cleanup on the side. Even though I was cleared to play by late April I wasn't full speed and range until really the end of the season. I'm so much more excited about this season as I'm pain free and back to full speed and motion. Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  22. Actually in this instance the USGA very specifically says "must" instead of "should". In the section under Handicap Committee. The only reason I know this is because I was Hdcp Chair for a couple years (ii) Numerous Away Scores Change Index If a player's Handicap Index increases by 3.0 or more due to the posting of numerous away scores, and subsequent scores at the player's club clearly indicate that the increased Handicap Index is too high, the Handicap Committee must adjust the player's Handicap Index downward. Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  23. If you want to really get in the weeds w the handicap manual, technically if someone is posting away or internet scores that are all higher than normal and are moving their index up too far then the handicap committee is instructed to manually adjust the index back down. That wouldn't apply in your case but maybe that's what he was thinking about. That provision applies to someone who is clearly posting fake away or internet scores just to raise their handicap. Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  24. Why would that have any impact? The slope and rating don't change just because it's home or away. Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  25. I should not eBay late at night Soooo now have a set of Srixon z785 on the way. Once I get them I will do a head to head launch monitor session against my current z565/765 combo set and post the results here Sent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
