Driver failed. Better luck next year.

      Thanks though!

  2. I played the UVX3 yesterday for 14 holes before it took a dive into some weeds and wouldn't come out. I really never connected with it on my driver, it felt a little hard but not bad, and the distance was ok, perhaps a bit less than I'm used to, but it could have been because I never really pured it. Like the X3, this ball is long and feels nice with full iron shots. I had one shot in particular, and uphill 170 yard shot to a front pin where I really didn't feel like I caught it well and figured I was going to end up short. The ball carried onto the green and I was pleasantly surprised, when I got up to it, it was on the BACK of the green! Again I'm not a huge fan of the feel with the chip shots, but I am adjusting to them and getting better results. I'm playing a roll out shot and once you adjust to doing that the balls perform predictably, which is really all one could ask. I did really like putting with the UVX3, I like the double alignment aids and like the feel off the putter, its seems to come off the putter perhaps a little hot, but that suits me fine as I am NOT a "die it in" putter and I'll take a ball 3 feet past over 3" short ANY time! I really dig the yellow color, its just so nice to be 150 yards away and be able to see your ball and know "there I am" while everyone else is scrambling around looking for thiers! Tracking it in the air is great too, it reminds me a watching a Star Wars laser beam! I've still got two left, I'm getting used to them and coming around a bit on my feelings about the greenside performance, it just takes some getting used to!
  3. Interesting thing happened today: pulled up to my course and the Bridgestone guys were doing free ball fittings. I was talking to them and went though the fitting process comparing the Bridgestones to my normal Cally i(z). Then I remembered: I have a sleeve of Vision UV X3's in the bag! So I asked if they minded giving me a reading on them. They were VERY interested in the X3! They did the reading and for my swing the UV X3 came in very similar to the Bridgestone e6. They said I should hit the Vision a bit straighter but the e6 could give me a few more yards, it was really close. It was a really cool to be able to compare it that way, wish I'd had some of the other Vision balls in the bag, I'm planning on breaking out the UV X3s for a scramble tomorrow!
  4. Is it really?! I get all kind of weird looks because the first thing I do when someone gives me a new type of golf ball is put it in my mouth! And here I thought I'd invented it! If you can design a radical yellow ball that equals the X3 on full shots, spins like a Cally i(z) with the wedge, and passes the tooth test I pledge here and now to spend hundreds of dollars a year with Vision Golf on schwag, gloves, and golf balls!
  5. You beg an interesting question Boz, which is how much of how we play is based on what our equipment is capable of doing? I would agree with you that I make more chips when I get them rolling out towards the hole, and I do play this type of shot with some frequency. However, from a certain distance, say more than 15' off the green, I believe I get closer with a spinning check shot than I can with a roll out. I probably don't make as many, but I probably one putt more of them! And I hope everyone realizes that a full review and opinion cannot be formed on one round of golf, either. I plan on playing all these balls until they're a scuffed mess, and then I plan on ordering some more from you and actually paying for them! I think there is a definitely a potential market here in the US for Vision Golf and I'm pulling for your success! I can't wait to see what those with the prototype think of it!
  6. I played the white X3 for 18 holes yesterday (yup, 1 ball!). I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first. Not that I didn't think it was a good ball, I just didn't really think it was going to be a good ball for me. This is I'm sure partly just arrogant snobbery on my part, having played the Callaway X-tour, i(x), and now i(z) for the past several years, mainly because of iron and greenside feel. So keep in mind as you read this that I believe I am one of the lower handicaps Oz hooked up, and I don't know that I'm really his target market. I am comparing this ball to a Callaway i(z), which is not its intended competition. However, it is what I play, its what I know, and as such, it is my comparison point. The X3 looks good, I don't mind the glittery finish. I don't love it, but I don't mind it, it doesn't distract me. My initial test for a ball is to tap it on my teeth, weird yes, but tap a tour ball on your tooth, and then tap an NXT Tour, and you'll immediately see the difference. The X3 does NOT pass the "tooth test"! It is, in fact, a very "clicky" ball, its not a feel I look for, it is, in fact, a feel I tend to shy away from, being conditioned to associate "clickiness" with decreased iron and wedge performance. I was determined to put all this out of my mind and just play the ball for 18 holes and really focus on how it performed. How it felt off the clubface, and most importantly, how it reacted. Could I work the ball? Distance off the driver, and most importantly, how did it come into the greens. I'm going to rate on a 1-10 scale: Driver Rating: 9 The ball has a different trajectory than I'm used to. It really seems to hit a point just a bit lower than I'm used to on the way up, but it seems to hang there longer. There's a couple heartbeats in there where you're watching the ball stay right on a line before it drops. Almost as if its being held there by the wind, but there was very little wind. Distance was right where I expected it to be, perhaps a bit further than my normal ball, and I really hit some good tee shots yesterday. I had to hit one big sweeping draw, and the ball reacted well, I thought I had overcooked it but the ball stayed in the fairway, so perhaps not as much spin as I'm used to, but it saved me on that shot! Full Irons: 8 This is probably where I was most surprised and impressed with the X3. As I said, the ball is clicky, its a hard ball. Somehow, it does not feel or sound hard off a full struck iron! It feels fine, I don't know that I can quite go all the way and say it feels good, but it is surprisingly "not hard". The ball again does not launch as high as I'm used to, but distance is not effected, if anything I think I get a bit more distance out of the X3 than I'm used to. I found myself on the backs of a few greens yesterday, and had one ball that I was sure was short on a blind shot end up on the front of a green, so I'm pretty sure I was getting a little more yardage than I'm used to with the irons. The balls response on hitting the green was surprising to me too. I had thought this was where it was really going dissapoint, but this was not the case. The ball spins! It spins good, too. I hit a 130 9 iron and backed it up a good 4-5 feet, mostly though, it just stays put. It doesn't roll out, it checks, nicely. I can't say I would mind that day in and day out. Greenside: 6 This is where I wasn't quite as impressed with this ball. Here, the clicky feel manifests itself, and the ball's reaction with the wedge is not what I'm looking for. I play a pretty creative wedge game, I carry 3 wedges, I like to spin the ball, I like to flop it, I expect a lot out of a ball around the greens. The X3 was fine with a lofted shot, and it was fine when I was looking for the ball to roll out. It was not very receptive to a low trajectory "one hop stop" shot. It likes to roll out. Its something I don't know if I could get used to. I'm going to take it to the practice green and give it a more fair workout, but I hit some pretty good chips and pitches yesterday and didn't q get what I look for. However, it has to be noted that I'm not impressed with NXT Tours, Bridgestone e-whatever, Cally X-Hots, etc. The Vision X3 was certainly no worse than the balls in its target market. Putting: I putt with an STX Putter, all balls putt fine! However, it did seem a little quicker off the face than I'm used to, but it held the line well and I didn't really notice it blowing by the hole. I had 1 3 putt yesterday and made a 15 and a 25 footer, it was a decent putting round for where I was at on the greens. Summary: I was all in all pleasantly surprised by the X3. It has a much better feel than I expected, it performs very well with the driver and full irons. Its distance is very good, while still allowing decent workability. Around the greens was not a disappointment, because I don't feel its fair to measure this ball against the very best balls on the market that I purchase almost exclusively for thier greenside response, which is not what the X3 is trying to do. Conclusion: I would play this ball on occasion. I'm going to play the X3 Optical Yellow ball this weekend in a tournament, not only to review, but by choice. I would choose the X3 for early season play before my game is dialed in as a go to ball, I think I like it better than all the other Thanks Boz for the opportunity to test it, I'll be reviewing your other balls as I break them out and give them a whirl!
  7. WOW! Got mine today! My wife immediately snagged the pinkys despite my protestations! Guess you'll be getting some feedback from a high handicap lady! Thanks a bunch, can't wait to hit them! I'd post a pic, but its not cooperating.
  8. Gotcha, everything is fine I'm sure! Looking forward to coming home to a box on the front porch!
  9. Never got a tracking number or email Boz, should I have?
  10. Congrats! Breaking your personal best is one of the best achievments in golf, imo! Now that you've broken 90, I bet you find yourself in the 80s frequently!
  11. Played twice over the weekend and shot 80 both times, not terrible for me but not great either. Not doing anything particularly well or horrible consistently, just not breaking 80 often enough! The big news is that our KC Cup team made the post season for the first time in our team's history! We'll be having to go on the road to play a tough opponent, but just getting in is a victory in an of itself for us!
  12. Scratch Wedge from the MGS Lottery on my front porch today!

  15. That sucks JBones, I hate it when I'm all amped up and expecting to play well and it doesn't work out. Its SOOO good when it happens, and sucks all the more when it doesn't. Shake it off, a couple beers can't hurt!
  16. Struggled all weekend. 84 on Saturday with FIVE (YES FIVE!!) 3 putts, which is unheard of for me. Putting woes continued on Sunday with 3 three putts and to top it off my tee ball decided to go left for the first 12 holes. Two lost balls ensued until I finally pulled my head out and finished with a very difficult and ugly 86. Cup match tomorrow, hopefully I got THAT outta my system!
  17. Good job mudfish! I've discovered that pulling the driver out of the bag occasionally really helps my game. It makes me more willing during a round to hit something other than driver off the tee and believe that I can score without it. Our group plays a "3 Clubs and Putter" tournament every year, and its quite fun trying to figure out which clubs you're going to play. It never fails that several guys shoot thier best round of the year during this tournament, go figure!
  18. I'm 38. I run a small (very small, meaning, just me!) I.T. Consulting Company and work for other small businesses helping them with pretty much the full range of thier I.T. needs. I do network design and installation, as well as PC sales and repair. I have a pretty good life for the most part, I get to help people like myself (small business owners) for a living, which I find very rewarding, and I have a flexible schedule that allows me to persue my other passion: golf! I have a Communications Degree from the University of Missouri. I helped start and currently sit on the board of our course's Golf Association, which has about 90 members. I am the "Communications Director", which means I keep everyone informed while trying desperately to avoid actually DOING anything! I also do all the tee times for our events and drink alot of beer and crown with the guys while we ****** about everthing! This year I started up a website for our members, you can see it but you can't laugh! Web Design is not my thing, but I enjoy learning how to do it! www.playitdown.net I have a wife (14 years married) and a 9 year old daughter, both of whom have taken up golf in the past few years. Alot of our recreational and social time revolves around golf and our friends from the course. As I said, its not a bad life so far!
  19. I won my division in our Club Championship last weekend! Played the 49-Under Handicap Division. Played as an 8.0, which was the low handicap, and shot 80-79. Was 1 stroke back after the first day, but took the lead after 1 on the 2nd day, and held it, to win by 3. It was the two best consecutive competitive rounds I've ever played. I've scored better before, but for the way the course was set up and the way I managed my rounds, it was the best. 80-79 with no lost balls, and nothing worse than a bogey (only 1 birdie). I am absolutely THRILLED right now, although I may have partied a little too hard for a Sunday last night!
  20. Our KC Cup team dominated yesterday, taking out our opponent 7-3 and putting us in 1st in our division! My 4 ball partner had his career best round (70) and I shot an ugly 81. Great thing was, we played against the guys that screwed us in the last match! On the first tee, the guy said "there are no hard feelings about that last match are there?" I replied "ya, a little bit". He looked a little taken aback, and said "oh, so, I guess you're supposed to kick our ass today then?" and I said "that's the plan!", we beat them 6-4 and they didn't even finish out the round! Victory is SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!! This weekend is Club Championship weekend, game is feeling ok, hoping for a good showing!
  21. Ended up walking 18 holes in 97 degree heat today. Oops. Didn't intend to even play, just went to practice on the range, but decided to "play a few holes" then "hell, I'm hitting the ball well, I'll play out the 9" then went on to finish the round. I was toast by 13 and kicking myself for a fool. I made it though, but that's just way to freakin hot to walk! I played alone for the first time in ages, it was great!
  22. Great shootin' Nic! I ran into a sandbagger today, he's a 20 Index, I'm a currently a 9. I was giving 6 strokes based on Course Handicap * 80%. I shot a 40 on the front, which is decent for me, and this guy throws up a 38 and I swear he missed two 3 footers on purpose. I was down three after 9, and conceeded the match to him to save his life and perhaps mine, I was afraid I was going to have a stroke I was so pissed off.
  23. Played in a 4 ball handicap match for our Cup Team yesterday. Those guys ran into a buzzsaw! I shot a 36 on the front and my partner shot 37! Closed them out on 13, after which I proceeded to bogey my way in for a 79, ruining what should have been my best round of the season! Team won 6-4, which makes us 2-1 overall with 3 more to play! I love playing well when it matters!
  24. Play It Down, Putt It Out!
