  1. I have the opposite problem. I have a pin head.😁 Every hat I wear has to be adjusted to almost as small as it will go. It looks ridiculous.😂 Therefore, I dislike hats. Unfortunately, I'm follically challenged so, going hatless on a golf course is a no no. Those of you with 'normal' size noggins are blessed.😉

  2. I don't care one way or the other. Personally, I don't bother with it. It's just another thing to have to contend with.... changing stations/skipping songs because you don't like what's playing, up down the volume, etc.... I'd much rather just concentrate on screwing up the round without help. 😄

If music bothers you so much that you can't play because of it.... maybe you should take up Tennis.... they frown on any outside noise as much as golfers do. 😂

... Amen brother! I am a HUGE believer in getting to know just one wedge and using it for every shot round the green. When I got my first 60* I made many of the mistakes many Am's make and decided to not only practice more, but use it for every shot from 50yds and in. My old playing pard and I would play 18 and then go to 11 right next to the parking lot and play a competition with our lob wedges. We took turns putting balls in impossible as well as easy spots and whoever got up and down in the least strokes won. It made practice fun as well as teaching us to use our LW's in different and creative ways. My goal was to become proficient enough with my 60*  to play any shot then move on to other wedges. I enjoyed playing my LW so much I never got around to other wedges and feel I can get up and down from virtually anywhere around the green. The only shot I don't have is the long running chip that gets on the ground quickly and rolls like a putt to the hole.

... I now use a 52*/58* combo because pw's kept getting stronger and I don't need any other wedges. The only time I use the 52* is long bunker shots or long pitches into a strong wind when I need to keep the flight down.

This is me these days. I use my 54* for almost every shot around the green. Sometimes I use my 50* for a few shots farther away that need to roll out a bit more. Other than that, I should take the 58* out of the bag.... nothing good ever comes of using it 😅.

  4. Do what you want. Makes no difference to me. I drink, so I'm not about to get on a soap box. Personally, I won't take anything into my lungs on purpose, other than air...lol. I watched too many people I cared about die from smoking. My father died a  very slow death from COPD, mother, uncle, father and mother in law, aunts... lung cancer. I'll just stick to beating up my liver... lol.

I used to live in Ohio on the north side of Columbus.  My day off was Tuesday, so that's when my wife and I played.

There used to be so much good public golf in Ohio and we could always find a course for $18.00 ($1 per hole) for walkers.  Most of the time, if we tried to play a second round, the pro shop people would just wave us through with no extra charge.

I remember playing 36 holes Fire Ridge GC near Johnstown (closer to Cleveland) for $18 a piece.  It was a pretty hilly course and our Clic carts were invaluable.  The same happened at Black Diamond GC, which was even hillier.  Playing in the Fall was unbelievably gorgeous.

I remember thinking that there was no need to be a member if you were trying to save money.

There is still a lot of affordable golf in Ohio. Some of my favorite courses are no longer affordable... for me. I haven't played my favorite in 5 years because of the increase in greens fees. I'm sure $75.00 isn't a lot to some of you, but it is a substsntial amount to me.

I’m with you there. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the look of a nice lawn but I’m not willing to put forth the time, effort, and money to keep it going. I tell myself every year that I want to change my ways but I’m pretty good at talking myself out of it when spring gets here.

Me too...lol. It only takes a couple of weeks of mowing what seems like at least every other day in the Spring to kill any  thought of actually caring about my lawn. Then, there is the matter of mulch, tree and shrub trimming....................... I'd starve as a Landscaper... 😬

Sounds crazy but growing a healthy, thick lawn can be a multi-year process.... 🤷‍♂️

Gotta have just the right amount of watering, the right types and amounts of fertilizer at the right times (I use a service for that!) and weed/bug killer, aeration twice a year ... 🤦‍♂️

But if you like the look of a nice green lawn it's worth it!

I'm probably the odd guy on here... I hate lawn work... all of it. I love when my lawn turns brown in July and August so I don't have to mow every other day. 🤣

It's also why MLB doesn't allow aluminum bats

They don't allow aluminum bats because MLB players are far superior to high school and college players. Aluminum bats produce too much speed off the bat in the hands of a MLB player. They are deemed too dangerous to be used... especially for pitchers that have to duck in a millisecond from a line drive at them. I'm pretty sure that no driver or ball is dangerous to other players on the course.

MLB has curbed everything as it stands.... they didn't roll back anything. Golf should do the same. Again... just my .02. 😉

Is anybody really frowning on advancement in athleticism? I haven't see any of that and it sounds ridiculous.

As for advancement in technology, yeah, if the game changes significantly, it needs to be looked at and some rules put in place for an even playing field for pros - unless people want the game to change that way. I don't know that it's frowned upon. But the resulting change to the game is frowned upon by some people.

Baseball is an analogy that comes up a lot, and it works fairly well. Do we want like 300% more home runs? MLB has rules on equipment and they made decisions on how they wanted equipment to affect the game. You could look at car racing for a lot more rules. They are limiting the effect of tech advances for a desired output.

I'll also add that I'm in favor of taking into account changes in equipment that occurred earlier. I'm not saying we go back to that. That would be a giant change, and that's super tough to do, maybe impossible, it would be a huge backlash, tons of costs for manufacturers, all of that. That's why they are proposing such a small change right now. It's the least inconvenient way to do this. But I'm saying it should be taken into account - because those changes in the game due to equipment were big, and they have stayed. The rules bodies probably should have done something 20 years ago or whatever. Imagine MLB allowing aluminum baseball bats for 20 years, and then what?

Most of the advance in distance over the last 20 years  is due to advancement in training/workout/nutrition.... so. yes.... advancement in athleticism. You need look no further than Bryson for proof of what advanced nutrition and workout specific routine/s can/does make.... it aint the ball.

Equipment really hasn't changed all that much in 20 years (I know others will argue that) except for materials used and weight locations. Again.... I fail to see the reason/purpose for this roll back, at least for the stated reason/s.  Being the conspiracy guy I tend to be (I trust no power entity) I believe there is a much more sinister...lol reason behind this.

Anyone can feel free to flame me over my opinion.... I have thick skin... and I still think you all rock! 😉

    Well, you asked...

Because Rory and Bryson and the other big pro bombers (which is just about all of them these days) will lose a lot more than 4 yards. The USGA says at the ball speeds those guys obtain (>/= 183 mph), they'll lose as much as 15 yards with the driver, which might be the difference between hitting a full 9-iron and a little 7 into the green. But by the time they get down to the 5-iron, which is a lot lower swing/ball speed even for those guys, it will be virtually identical to what they get now. But a club and a half difference on the approach shot is a big difference for those guys. But for Joe Amateur who doesn't get 120+ mph club speed with the driver, the distance loss is a lot less.

Okay, if that is true.... does 15 yards keep courses from being over powered? Does 15 yards ensure the integrity of the game is upheld? These guys can hit any iron from 5 on down with extreme accuracy and distance control. What did/does taking 15 yards away accomplish... other than using a bit more club? I still don't understand what this is really all about.... well, I have my opinion on what it's really all about, but that isn't this discussion.

Bottom line: 15 or even 20 yards is negligable to the pros who are really just that good. This roll back doesn't accomplish anything, other than.............................. a different discussion.

At my level of play I am pretty sure I wouldn't know the difference between a 267yd drive and a 263 yd drive on any given hole. Swing, quality of strike, face angle, path and AoA will have a much greater effect than a 4yd loss in distance.

... But nothing we say here will reach

I agree, I will not notice a 4 yard difference in distance. I just don't understand what the RB's are trying to achieve with this piddling amount of lost yardage. How will that "save" golf and the historic courses and preserve the integrity of the game? Again.... this is a solution looking for a problem, IMO.

What am I missing that you and others seem to be privy to?

... Tough argument when soooooo many complain Oems come out with NEW! and IMPROVED! equipment every year that really isn't new or improved. And I think you underestimate the role the new ball will have as there will be a need for more engineering, not less. You will have every ball manufacturer trying to improve distance through materials, dimples, layers and anything else they can come up with to combat a lower initial velocity.

... And I LOVE my electric car. Especially driving by lines selling gas for $4 a gallon while I take 15 seconds to plug my car into my charger overnight when rates are the lowest and the next morning I am ready to roll. I charge about once every 10 days or so. It is soooo much faster, smoother riding with a very low center of gravity and I won't get into the other advantages. But I have owned my GV60 for a full year now and easy to say it is by far the best car I have ever owned. And of course pun intended: your milage may vary 😉

What good will chasing distance do if distance is no longer allowed? If they get the ball to where the distance is right now, what was the point of the roll back? Is the end game to get us all the way back to wound balls and hickory shafts? I'm just not getting what they are trying to achieve. The simplest thing to do would be to just let things be as they are. I will continue to play no matter what, so anything I think really doesn't matter...lol.

I have nothing aginst electric cars, but neither they nor the country is ready for mass use of them. We'll just let this one alone. 😉

Just read a post on instagram in that AK has signed with LIV and will tee it up as a wildward in Jeddah. If true, I will definitely be watching.

I never had a doubt as to which tour he would sign with. I'm sure he was/is compensated well. I know if I were a pro golfer, I would opt for the money. But.... having struggled quite bit in my life, probably sways my opinion on it. 😉
