  1. First practice of the year for league. I shot a + 2, 36 on the front nine. I'm not complaining one bit for the first time out!
  2. Nope. I wear no jewelry of any kind. I used to carry a pocket watch for years, but since I have a cell phone on me at all times, it's not necessary.
  3. Since there is a "best ball striker" thread going on.... how does one become a good ball striker? If there is one aspect of the game that I really want to be good/better at, other than putting, it is to be a good ball striker. I have finally learned how to hit with a descending blow, after almost 2 seasons of making the effort to learn how. The problem I now have is that, I hit fat/before the ball more than I'd like. I'm fairly consistent but I tend to hit fat or thin at least a few times in a round. How do I consistently hit the ball first, and then take a divot?
  4. Macallan 18 is NOT for doing shots!!!...lol. It is to be poured in a Glencairn or Copita glass and nosed. Then, small sips and savor it! No ice! Yeah.... I'm a whisk(e)y geek. Sounds you had a great time. I played on Dec. 26th with my brother. Not my best outing (87) but, It was just so cool to be playing golf at the end of Dec. in Ohio!
  5. I sat around waiting for the rain, but it never showed. So, I went and played 9 by myself. I managed a +2 on the front 9 with 2 birdies. That's pretty for good me, considering I hate playing in wet, sloppy conditions. I also learned that Intech balls suck!...lol. They were cheap and I was out of balls. Not worth the price, even to play this time of year, IMO.
  6. It was so nice when I got up today...52* at 8:00 am. I was on the course by 9:30 am and played the back 9. I shot 39 (+4). If I could have made the 2 very makeable birdies I had on 15 and 17 It would have been better! I really need to put some serious effort into becoming a better putter. It just kills my scores.
  7. Nope. I get nothing from it. I can miss just fine without plumb bobbing.
  8. Well..... it was 52 and waaaaayyyyyy nice, considering it has been in the 20's and colder here for more than 2 weeks. I played with my brother and shot 80 even, considering we drank quite a bit of beer and a fair amount of bourbon...lol. I'll take it!
  9. I played 9 with my brother today. 46* and sunny..... nice day! I ended up shooting a +1 36 on the back 9. What an enjoyable day. I wish every time out was this much fun. Not just the score, but for some reason, the day was just special.
  10. If I was starting a golf company today, I would choose Rory. To me, who to choose is relevant to the times. Rory is the hot commodity today and likely to bring the most people to the game, just as Tiger did 25 years ago.
  11. I haven't played in over a month. My brother called and wanted to play.... so, naturally, me being the caring guy I am, I indulged his wishes I shot 79 and really could have/should have shot 76. If I could only putt well. .
  12. What could have been a very good round (for me) turned into a so, so round. Not bad, not great. I shot 78 and had 5 birdie opportunities in a row... and missed every one of them.
  13. I shot 76 today. It's amazing how checking the ego at the door and putting the ball in play will help the score. Now, If I can just continue to do that!
  14. Well, I played in an outing today with some buddies from from work. Between all the beer you could possibly want and an almost "fluke" kind of day, we managed to shoot EVEN! We could have thrown $50 bills on the greens and we couldn't buy a birdie! At any rate, it was a great day and a lot of fun!
  15. Lions and Tigers and Bears.... oh my! LOL.... I haven't shot a round this bad in a long time. There was nothing that worked today. I couldn't buy a par. Three good (in my opinion) tee shots. Everything else was just horrendous! I shot 91! I haven't done that in a very long time. I hope to not do it again for an even longer time...lol. Sometimes this game just lets you know that it owns you, not the other way around. I had a great time playing with my future son in law and my brother and a buddy. At least I remembered how to drink beer!
  16. My brother called and TOLD ME we were playing today...lol. It was 38* and a little windy. We played 9 holes. I shot a +3 37. I'd be happy to do that consistently throughout the season...lol.
  17. just to put it short and sweet........ I played like total s**t! I had a great time on a beautiful day with my brother. But.... with the impending end to my divorce, I just don't have my head in it. I shot 90. 90!!!
  18. I second the suggestion of Lagavulin 16. Even better, in my opinion, is the Lagavulin 12 cask strength. Also, if you favor the peaty Islay offerings, try Laphroaig and Ardbeg.
  19. Ok....... I'm thinking I should just go to bed now. I've indulged in more than a couple of glasses of Buffalo Trace Bourbon this evening. Kind of a bad evening for me. you all take care.
  20. You'll like it. It's the regular single barrel offering at a higher proof. In my opinion, ALL whisk(e)y should be 50% or higher.
  21. I shot 80 yesterday with two double bogeys. I lipped out 3 birdies. That is extremely frustrating.
  22. I missed this thread, so................ I'm 53 (closer to 54 at this point )and I'm a Cabinetmaker. I've worked in the trade show industry for the last 21 years. Before that, I built pipe organs, kitchens and bath's and furniture of all kinds.
  23. I took off work early yesterday with a buddy and played a round. I shot 78. I'm not in the least upset with that, but I could have dropped 4 strokes off that score if I could only put. I shot 79 today with my brother. Again, I could have easily dropped 4-5 strokes if I could only get the ball in the hole. I seem to just burn the edges or lip them out. You'd think sooner or later they would start to drop, but that hasn't been the case this year. Oh well, I'll just have to keep on playing I guess.
  24. Four Roses is excellent bourbon. Jim Rutledge is a master distiller. The Single Barrel and Small Batch are some fine offerings. I'm not particularly fond of the Yellow Label 80 proof, but I seem to be in the minority on that one. Their Limited Editions are also great, although a bit pricey.
  25. Just to clarify.... all Scotch, Bourbon, Rye and Irish is "whisk(e)y" The Scot's don't use an "E" in the spelling, everyone else does, with the exception of George Dickel Tennessee Whisky. Jack Daniel's is also Tennessee Whiskey. All Bourbon is whiskey.... all whiskey is not Bourbon.
