  1. I've been playing from the whites the last few times out and scoring really low, so today we played with a youngster who played from the blacks. He was an ex college player and works at a golf store. He was all of 5'-8", and maybe 150 soaking wet. So he lights up his first drive about 290... Wow! So anyways, I decide to play blues to see if I can still go low from there. Ended up tying the kid at 73. But the really odd part about the day was that I didn't really hit the ball well all day! Missed the green all day. BUT My short game was on fire! My weakest part is the short stuff, but today..., I put everything within a foot or two, and actually sank two. So oddly, I shot poorly, but scored well, thanks to short game. I'm usually higher in GIR, hence I don't have a lot of practice with short stuff. Today I didn't have it, but the short game saved me. Moral of the day, work on short game too...
  2. Had a good day. Shot a -2 68, - but from the whites. But I am 61, so I should be able to shoot from there, right? Anyways , 3 birds, 1 bogie (#1 difficult hole) 17 gir. Just a spot on day- no complaints other than missing so many birdie putts from 10-15 feet
  3. Started off with a bang Double first hole, and +6 through the first 9... grrr So I told my buddy that I just need to go -3 for the back 9 to make a decent score. So I went eagle, par, birdie, par birdie. Buuuuut, then I dropped two bogies in the final 4 holes and ended up +4 overall. So good score but what was up with the first 9 holes? It was like I had no connection to the club for a while. It might have been golf hangover from yesterday's round. Which was spent trying to return to normal, after wasting a week trying a new swing. Why do we try new swings when playing lights out?
  4. Played a track in SoCal called Sandpiper. Track was ok, but the views outstanding. Ran into a constant 40 mph "breeze" which made scoring difficult, but I scratched out a 84 for my first visit. Was a fun day with good friends...
  5. What an interesting concept!!!
  6. Par 3, #2 hole at Los Robles, 150 yards. We both missed the birdie..haha
  7. 4 birds on my way to a 68 today. Best shot of the day was a 180 yard 5 iron, that I had to turn about 30 yards around a big tree. Narrowly missed 3-4 other birds putts too. Been shooting lights out lately. Disclaimer... shot from white tees...
  8. So I played another round (partially anyways) of Player/ Caddy with one of my buds yesterday. Shot really low again, and my bud got a rare round in the 70's. and he envisions the beginning of a streak of more. Just spending a few moments before each shot, talking about what you really should do, makes the mind clearer about what your shot is going to do. Shave a stroke here, and there. Don't have that "blow-up" hole. Minimize mistakes. Don't try the miracle shots all the time, maybe just half the time, and recognize the situations when it's really a bad time to try that. Remember, half the game is mental...
  9. We were laughing about this on a few holes where we hit drives in the 300 range. Down wind, 90°, downhill, concrete fairways... *yawn*.. ho hum, just another 300 yard hit off the toe.. My best hole of the day was a monster drive uphill, with a little draw, left me 80 yard in. Second shot I fluffed a 60° bout 40 yards into the junk. Dropped a ball and then hit the wedge again, but pured it this time. I saw that it cleared the front edge of the elevated green, but couldn't see how close it was. Rolled up to the green and grabbed my putter and walked up the the green to see what I had left.my partner reached into his back pocket and threw my ball to me. He said It rolled up the backstop, and then rolled back down 15 feet and dropped into the cup, to save par. Aha! Of course, I missed seeing it...
  10. It was really hot today and the fairways are rolling long. Lots of big drives, go figure. Haha I guess these are the days where people get their "average drives" Anyways, missed all my eagle putts, as well as most of the birdie putts too ... Still shot well, my partner shot well too. We got paired up with a couple other dudes who were really good shooters, so it made for a fun day.
  11. I'm playing twice a week now. That's a huge reason I'm playing better than ever. Other reasons: Callaway 816 driver, 3-wood, and hybrid -- these clubs are long and true, and easy to hit - par-5's are always in play now Nike putter- a 3-putt is a rare event these days The key to it all is a totally simplified swing. Solid base with weight on right instep during backswing - result is no "swaying" Keeping the club face closed on backswing. - I have no idea why this helps so much, but it really makes all the difference in the world. Hitting the ball hard. - this probably sounds funny, but to hit a good shot, you need to compress the ball. It's not a big long John Daly backswing, it's more like a John Rahm swing. Just enough to get the club in a position to really bring it at contact. Laser rangefinder. - really knowing the distances, and really knowing how far you actually hit your clubs is EVERYTHING. MY weakness is my really short chipping game. I don't practice that enough. When the pros are just off the green, they actually expect to hole out their chips. And if they don't, more often than not, they are within a very few feet. That is the area that I know is my weakness, and I know that if I practice those situations more, I would really be a threat to break par at any given day. But I choose to not have the time for that as I have too many other things I like to do. And I understand and accept that reality. I can't complain about my game, because I know what's working and what isn't, so for that reason, I'm out...
  12. Shot good again today- been on a tear for a few months now, with lots of low 70's.
  13. Oh, and hit my first 300 yard shot with my 3-wood. 3 club wind at my back and got a great bounce too, but I've never done it before. Funny thing was that today was its last day in my bag as my new callaway 816 alpha DBD 3-wood just arrived, and I told the club all day it was it's last chance to show off, and that she did. It's a 20 year old sonartec SS-02 14°, on a Penley
  14. I'll be 61 come April, so y'all still have about 120 shopping days left...
  15. 80° here today.... Windy too, 2-3 club wind Shot 76 today, the usual little mistakes that keep you from shooting even, like a double on a short par 3 and such Greens are hard and fast, but it's supposed to rain tomorrow, so that should soften it up.
  16. Shot a 74 from the blues last Tuesday with 4 drives over 300** Shot an 84 yesterday from the whites... but it was 47° and I had 4 layers on when we started ** ( 3- club wind ) last Tuesday I was also mashing 5- irons into the greens from 150, or 8- irons from 175. Sometimes it's very fun in the wind. It was 70° tho and I was on fire Yesterday I couldn't hit a barn...
  17. 1. Have you purchased any golf products based on MyGolfSpy reviews? Yes. a Ping i20 driver, a SCOR wedge, Srixon Z-Star balls, Ogio hybrid bag, Nike putters 2. How has MyGolfSpy changed the way you think about golf equipment? I admit that I get swayed by mygolfspy reviews. I do massive research before every purchase, reading every review I can find. 3. Have these purchases lowered your scores? (List which products and how much they have lowered your scores.) I would say "possibly". I don't know for sure if it's been because of playing more, or the gear. One thing I honestly believe that has helped is the Nike putters. 4. How have these purchases helped you enjoy the game more? The Putter makes more putts. How can you not enjoy the looks on your partners faces when you drop more putts?
  18. Shot an even 72 today at a new track, although I admit it was from the whites. Track was named Sierra Lakes, like in Corona or. Something in SoCal Absolutely gorgeous track with superb fairways and greeens. Yesterday shot a 75 from the blues at a track called Jurupa country club, in a riverside, SoCal. It was raining cats and dogs with serious thunder, so it was a bit scary
  19. Played well, the forward press is really paying off.
  20. Shot 79, made some putts, and scrambled well a few times. Best part of the day was hitting some solid 4 and 5 irons on or very close to the greens.
  21. Did I mention my elbow surgery has made me almost pain free now, 3 months now since surgery and wishing I had done it two years ago. It will start affecting your scores negatively and your cap will start inching up... Just sayin...
  22. I played like horrid thru the first 13, then par, back to back birdies, and parred out. Flog Terrible tennis elbow is beginning to really hamper my game
  23. I have a Corvette Z06 and I won't even try against those, unless lots of corners are involved...
  24. Haha, boy I know that feeling. Kinda like skulling back to back chips over the green and back to where the first one was! Gahhhhhh!
  25. That would be tee-shirt weather for y'all on the east now eh?
