  1. I hope the lousy bum has a seizure. Just kidding. I have been known to think “miss it, miss it” but I generally try to just play my game and be a gracious loser or winner.
  2. I haven't read the article yet but will. I have always enjoyed playing in the wind. It's just fun to try to figure out what I need to do -- what club? how to swing it? where to aim? I don't have a formula but I never fight the wind. If I am into the wind, I take plenty of club. If the wind is blowing hard right to left, I aim to the right and trust the wind. Since I hit a draw most of the time, if the wind is blowing left to right, I'll play less curve than in right to left wind. It's all feel for me. IIRC, Tom Watson said he would do much the same on British Open courses. He did alright. I have a fond memory of a round I played by myself in my first year of playing golf. The wind was blowing and just seeing how it affected the ball was, for some reason, a delight.
  3. Firstly, you will not break the shaft. Bryson DeChambeau might could. A shaft is a timing device. Whether the shaft works for you or not is dependent on more than swing speed. How you "load" the shaft and your tempo are big factors. There is a long thread in the golf equipment forum in which people share their experiences changing to a lighter and more flexible shaft. You can read it here: I would say play the driver as is for a while to see if you are satisfied with the dispersion and distance. If not, you can start trying other shafts. Good luck!
  4. I have tried pretty much every hosel setting. I find the differences to be recognizable but somewhat subtle. Except for the -1 degree setting. At my swing speed and the way I deliver the club, 8 degrees is just not enough loft. The Max driver doesn't have moveable weights, so that doesn't come into play. I did add about 4 grams of weight in the heel area to bring up the swing weight which gave me good results in strike location and club speed. On the subject of hosel adjustments, I think most know that adding loft closes the club face and lowering loft opens the club face. But that understanding is not quite right in my opinion. If you add loft and look down at the club at address, the face will be closed. In that case, you haven't really added loft, you have simply closed the face. However, if you are careful to rotate the face to a square position at address, then you have added loft and have not closed the face. I say all that to point out that hosel adjustments work only to the extent that you address the ball correctly.
  5. We've had a bunch of rain in the last couple of weeks, but I was able to get in some range time this week and played 18 this morning. On the range, I played with adding lead tape and that really helped. Even though I am a slow swinger, I seem to actually create more speed with a higher swing weight. On the course, all but 3 drives were playable draws. The other 3 broke down into 2 nasty hooks into the left rough and one fade that stayed in the fairway. All in all, I am very pleased with my accuracy with this club. I didn't pay much attention to distance this morning. The temperature was in the mid 50's and the wind was blowing 15mph with higher gusts. As a result, I averaged about 10 to 15 yards less than my usual. I'm posting an update to the test post.
  6. Hey, I'm willing to volunteer for an extensive full bag fitting. I would insist on being flown to Canada to be fit by the TXG guys, but surely MGS wouldn't have a problem with that.
  7. Congrats to the testers! Pops is looking for new wedges so I'll be following this with great interest.
  8. I can't think of any rational reason to require a player to wear long pants in 90 degree weather. Someone mentioned a dress code at Wimbledon. I'm not a follower of tennis, but I do know at one time long pants were required. Tennis made the rational decision to allow shorts. We have all seen PGA players who have big sweat spots on their shirts and pants. How could sweaty shorts possibly look worse than sweaty dress pants? In my regular group of mostly old men, we have guys who dress nicely and guys who don't. We have some guys who wouldn't look "nice" no matter what they wore. Sort of like Pigpen in Peanuts. And I don't care. When I think about how I dressed in the early 70's, I can't possibly criticize someone for what they wear on the golf course or off. I occasionally play with an elderly man who buys outrageous clothes from thrift shops just to wear on the golf course. They all adhere to the traditional rules for golf attire but, according to your point of view, he either looks hilarious or hideous.
  9. It was a great final round. Arguably the best player in the world coming from behind and barely nipping the current U.S. Open champ, the current British Open champ and an Olympics gold medal winner. I still can't believe Clark's birdie putt on 18 didn't go down. When it was a foot out, I was thinking, "Playoff!" And I would like to point out that Scheffler seems like the nicest dominant player since Nicklaus and none of the other three seem like jerks. That's refreshing.
  10. This reminds me of a couple of things I've read over the years. Harvey Penick mentioned giving a short lesson to a man who had large chest muscles which Penick said were of no use in a golf swing. And Tiger Woods once said his hips move so fast because his arms move so fast, not the other way around.
  11. I've never cared about the OWGR. Where a player is ranked makes no difference to me. I do recognize that it is a huge factor in the game because it is one of the ways a player get invitations to majors and other big tournaments. But, as a fan, I just don't care.
  12. I am very impressed with Scottie's play with an injury that directly affects his swing.
  13. People have been known to smoke a cigarette during my transition. I GPLB the Graffaloy Pro Launch Blue?
  14. Hard to say from the tables you posted. I may be overlooking it, but I only see side dispersion on one of the drivers. I would expect the one with more curve to carry less.
  15. Have any of you slower swingers tried an L flex?
  16. I'm afraid I agree with @cnosil. Of course, a different shaft might give you a different feel that would result in an unconscious change to your action that results in more consistency, but then you are back to your basic issue, which is a fitting is only a snap shot. Ask your instructor if working on changing your angle of attack is a good idea.
  17. I agree that such lists are just a starting point. On to the testing: I have been surprised by how little draw bias there seems to be in the Max. I am used to companies marketing their most draw biased driver as the most forgiving. Even turning the loft up hasn't caused me to fear the left shot. It may well be more draw biased than the other two models but it isn't excessive by any means.
  18. Well heck. You're right, the Max was tested. I blame not enough coffee.
  19. MGS has just released the Best Drivers of 2024. None of the Taylormade Q's finished in the top 5 of any category. However, when you look at the data, the differences between the TM's and the top finishers was small. I noticed the Max model wasn't in the test. I assume that is because TM decided not to provide one. I think the company made an error there. The Max may have been top 5 in everything if it had been in the test.
  20. I am glad I got the Max head. I am beginning to wonder if I should have chosen the 10.5 loft instead of the 9. However, I went to the range today and was able to get a good trajectory, so the jury is out on loft.
  21. One of the golf magazines tested new drivers at 95mph and found the Qi 10 Max to be the fastest. I'm not surprised.
  22. I guess I should clarify that last sentence. I was hitting the ball thin or fat all day.
