  1. Bingo! Still and all - they seemed liked pretty nice sticks, especially in the GI category. That and the price made them very tempting. Rockbottomgolf.com had them listed for less than $500...
  2. Demo'd these along with the FG V2's -- crushed the 6 iron a good 10-15 yards further than the V2 and even though I know better, I started grinning, thinking I'd turned back the clock about 20 yrs. The feeling was nice while it lasted... Despite the loft, I liked these quite a bit - felt nice, liked the ball flight. And dead sexy!
  3. Hmmm -- Katie Upton and Heidi Klum? Makes me want to keep both sets in the bag!! I think most of us are better at handling clubs than we are handling women - even if we've never golfed before! First round today - hit some nice shots, but these are pretty different - gonna take some practice!
  4. Also came with a nice little pamphlet with the specs...but no hat!
  5. Picked up the new stix this afternoon. I've never been physically attracted to or aroused by a golf club before (except for one Jan Stephenson was swinging in 1985), but oh my dear Lord these things are nice to look at! Had a short range session when I picked them up - and proceeded to top by first swing and it dribbled about 40 yards. Started getting the hang of them by mid-bucket. Found the longer irons VERY easy to hit - made me wish I got the 4 iron. Taking them out for a spin tomorrow. The Hogan's look a little sad to be leaving the bag... And a little putter love, too....
  6. The "Bubba" and the "Natalie." Gotta love it!!!
  7. Whack 'em long, straight and not too often. Good luck!
  8. Considering the VR Pro hybrids and will give the Adams a whack, too. Probably next season. Did pick up an'11 Mashie on eBay last night for 28 bucks, despite the "meh" review it got here. Hope to have the Mizzy's next week - it's gonna be like Christmas all over again!
  9. Hi Tom -- welcome! Seems like we have a few upper midwest types here. Maybe a regional play-date would be kind of a hoot! A tourney to honor your grandfather is a wonderful idea! BTW - there's over 36 miles of heating pipe under the turf at Lambeau Field -- that tundra hasn't been "frozen" in years!!
  10. Nice write up! Where do you play in Minnesota?
  11. Been hitting the Titleist 910D2 since last summer -- took a while to get the right setting, but am keeping it in the short grass with enough length for the courses I'm playing. Also bagging the Titleist 3-way -- absolutely LOVE that one, but you're right, it may come out of the bag 3-4 times a round, with the #3 hybrid about the same, maybe less. The course I play has several holes where 3W or 3H off the tee is the smart play. Did like the Razr Fit FW yesterday -- may demo the driver at some point. Then I get to spend even more $$$! Lemme know what you think of the RBZ. Whacked the 3-wood at Golf Galaxy the other day - didn't hit it well...
  12. Looking forward to hitting them! We'll evaluate the driver, too. Been pretty happy with what I have, but the Razr Fit FW was such a surprise, I may have to check it out, especially after last week's review here. Hybrids will be more of a priority, I think...
  13. Finalized new sticks this morning -- detailed fitting with the Ping nFlight system with my pro. Liked the NIke ProCombo, Ping S56 and the Wilson V2, but settled on the Mizuno MP-59's, Project X 5.5 shaft, + 1/2", 62 degree lie angle. Getting 5-PW (may consider MP 69's for 8-9-W). Big difference in performance/feel between shafts --- DG was okay, DG XP not so much, KBS Tour launched to high for me. The PX 5.5's felt by far the best, and the Mizuno Swing Meter was pretty cool to see in action. Also saw what a huge difference the shafts on my hybrids make. Currently playing a Callaway FTiz with stock standard flex shaft -- saw the ball balloon on the monitor. Best shots with the 21 degree logged in at roughly 170 yards. Hit the Ping i20 with the stock stiff shaft and was in the 192 range. Hit the new Callaway Fit 5 wood set at 17 degrees - rocked it 214 yards, which was okay for me. I'm not long, nor am I getting younger - comparable to the i20 at 18 degrees, which was 10 yards shorter. Attached is the nFlight report - interesting to see the numbers for the right shaft/head combo. Point of the entire post -- fitting is good! nFlightShots.pdf
  14. For Drivers/FW - call it the "Tiger" award For Irons - the "Hogan" award For wedges - the "Mickleson" award For putters - the "Palmer" award For hybrids - the "Barney" award For best in show - the "Jack"
  15. Was at GG last night - found last year's Penta's on sale for $29.95/doz, and Penta's labelled "practice" for $19.95/doz. Snapped up a couple!
  16. Agreed. Checking out new equipment is the most fun you can have with your clothes on while not on the course. Buying is another matter... For me it's about balancing want vs. need. I WANT a new set of irons. I NEED to put a new roof on the house... On the plus side, info learned here has helped me convince my wife that my WANT is also a NEED. She's a good woman...
  17. I'm a walker/pusher as well -- probably wouldn't have use for one, although I do keep a stash of clubs in my office that are forever falling over....
  18. From your lips to Perry Ellis' ears! Think you'd have to race me to the store to see who'd get the first new set of true Hogans, Rick! It's only about an hour from Plano to Fort Worth...
  19. Hate to admit it, but I went for this deal about 4 yrs ago....surprisingly, the hybrid wasn't that bad. They talked me into "trying for free" their driver-3-5-7 wood set, too. Not half bad, either...wound up forgetting/not bothering to send them back and got charged $250 for all 4 woods. Played 'em for a season -- again, not half bad -- but wound up giving them to my daughter's boyfriend. The *** hits 'em farther than I ever could, but that's youth. Not half bad -- but like Dave says above -- once you're in their system they won't leave you alone. At least they don't call anymore. Getting rid of the home phone helped....
  20. Thanks Foz -- Been testing almost everything in site - so far the Project X Rifle shafts have given me the best results. Think it'll come down to the 53's or 59's, or the Wilson's, or a progressive set. My fitter/instructor is digging the new Nike series, too. Then there's the custom Alpha's..... Oy! If nothing else, this whole process is the most fun you can have with your clothes on! I have the FT-iz hybrids -- bought 'em when I was a bout 60 pounds heavier. Swing speed is up now - considering replacing or reshafting.
  21. Thanks for the review -- will give them a try. Gawd I love this site!!!
  22. Agree that Mizuno is the big winner -- however... Now instead of their chief competitor being small little Adams, they've got to deal with big ole TM, if TM is smart enough to use Adams technology to make their player's irons better. Could look at it as the same competition with more money and a new name... Again, if TM is smart, the Adams technology, design, R&D, engineering, etc isn't going to go away -- it's just going to change uniforms. Sorta like Peyton going to Denver...
  23. So far, so good with mine (iPhone) -- haven't had to re-enter anything the 5 or 6 times I've opened it up.
  24. Just started using that APP this year -- keep scores going all the way back to last season based on your GHIN number -- makes posting scores easy. Also has a VERY simple course handicap function -- just use a slide bar to set the course slope rating and presto, you get your course handicap. I have the Minnesota edition - get the current issue of Minnesota Golfer magazine via the app, as well as a Twitter feed from the MN Golf Association. Highly recommended! Will post some screen shots as soon as my daughter can teach me how to do that...
  25. Joining Crystal Lake in Lakeville, MN for this year - $975 for all the golf you can walk. Nice track and is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Not the longest course around, but is well maintained and 10 minutes from home. Lots of nice courses in my area -- favorite mid-price course is Stonebrooke in Shakopee, MN. Signature 8th hole requires a 230 yard carry over a bay in Lake O'Dowd (we have 10,000 of them, you know!). After you tee-off you drive your carts onto a pontoon boat for a boat ride to the fairway. Kinda gimmicky, but fun nonetheless...
