  1. ... My anti Vontae Mack pick is the Vikings moving up to #3 and taking Drake Maye. My favorite college QB and some have him rated highest in this draft, haunting the Bears for years to come is an absolute nightmare!
  2. ... It is always pretty amazing how many top 10 QB picks are busts and another team thinks they can fix them. I think Zach has shown us his ability and it is substandard for the NFL. Close to home, Trubisky played with the Bills and Steelers as a back up and once he had his chance to start, failed again. I do think he is a capable back up if it is a short stint but who drafts a QB #2 thinking he will be an "adequate" back up? ... OTOH, I think undrafted Tyler Bagent proved he can be a starter in the NFL. I thought he played much better than Fields and the Bears are lucky to have such an excellent back up. Selecting a college QB to play in the NFL really has to be the most difficult endeavor to get right in all of sports.
  3. ... One popular rumor today is the Pats trading with the Giants and they take Maye at #3 and the Pats take McCarthy at #6. I would LOVE to see Maye go to the Giants.
  4. ... Most exciting draft in years. After Williams, Maye and Daniels who moves up to take a QB? When will the first defensive player come off the bard? Will Harrison, Nabers and Odunze go in the top 10? So many interesting questions to be answered soon!
  5. ... Have any of you run across Stinknet plants on your courses or in your area? It is an invasive plant/weed from Africa called Oncosiphon pilulifer and it has become a huge problem here. I took a trip to a course 1/2 hr away and traveled through barren desert for a good part of the trip. It is almost completely yellow as this invasive plant has crowded out much of the native plants. I saw a feature on these and they were having a meeting to come up with a plan to combat the invasion and basically said the Stinknet had already exploded beyond their ability to combat it. They were going back to the drawing board to figure out what could be done about it. ... This is a picture from just off the 5th tee but it is all over the course.
  6. ... Over under on Packers wins is 10.5 so bet $100 nets $130. No brainer for someone on a hot streak. (I took the Bears over at 8.5 and $100 only gets me $76 )
  7. ... Depends on who you listen to. I watched every game the last 2 years and just disagree with some experts. Yes, Maye could have some sloppy footwork, especially drifting in the pocket for no apparent reason. But I think it was more a porous Oline and few quality WR's as well as playing from behind and needing to make things happen. He read and manipulated the safeties as well as anyone I have seen in college and attacked the middle of the filled, something many college QB's avoid. he more often than not made quick decisions and got rid of the ball quickly, especially when ahead or down by only one score. Interestingly the same things could be said about Williams as he had a weak Oline and played from behind often as well.
  8. ... Amen, just impossible to predict how someone will react to situations and speed they have never seen. The biggest deterrent is as a QB you make certain throws in high school/college but you can't make those same throws in the NFL because defenses are so much more disguised and DB's are so insanely talented. Even playing at the highest level like the SEC, you don't face many NFL caliber DB's. But once those routine passes start getting picked, many hesitate and that is death in the NFL for a QB. The great ones still throw a ton of picks their rookie year without hesitation and learn from it. Peyton Manning throw 28 picks his rookie year and 15 his second season. But far too many 2nd guess themselves and hesitate for that split second (which is understandable) and that is the start of their demise. ... The one thing to remember is Allen was not very accurate in college, and other than a few games where he pressed because he didn't have an Oline to protect him and usually playing from behind, Maye was very accurate. In fact I consider accuracy his strength at all three levels, long/mid/short. So while all 6 of them have a Bust chance, I think Williams and Maye have more of a franchise QB chance than bust. Especially Williams that is sliding into a rare situation for a rookie chosen 1st. 2 Pro Bowl WR's, a reliable TE, a solid Oline with good RB's and a great defense. Usually they have to play on a team rebuilding so Williams is very lucky.
  9. ... Unlike high school and college, there is only one position you absolutely must get right in the NFL. Quarterback. It is why we see so many first round busts because it is worth taking the chance. It should be clear when a franchise QB goes down to injury the teams wins go down precipitously. ... While admittedly there is no such thing as a Can't Miss I am gonna say Drake Maye is a Can't Miss prospect. Pats should thank their lucky stars Kingsbury wants Daniels a duel threat QB, which of course are prone to injury in the NFL. A Big Boy like Allen can take the punishment if he is smart about running but a smaller frame like Daniels will more than likely miss some games. I love Maye's size and he has plenty of speed to run if absolutely necessary, which in my opinion is the best case scenario for the NFL. Pass first, even when breaking out of the pocket and looking to throw til they cross the line but having the athleticism to avoid direct hits and enough speed to gain yards before sliding or getting out of bounds. Mahomes is a great example.
  10. ... As far as mock drafts are concerned, where was Brock Purdy projected to go in the 2022 draft? Extreme example of course but then again Brady went in the 6th round. It's fun to speculate of course but kinda silly at the same time. There are knowledgeable folks in the Bronco's organization that have every game going back to high school on both these QB's and will have a much more educated opinion on which/neither will be best for the Bronco's. As you said, we will see.
  11. ... This draft has the potential to be a historic QB class. And the potential to improve mechanics at the highest level is so very impressive. But I think it is safe to say all have the physical skills to thrive right now. But playing QB in the NFL requires superior ability between the ears. I expect that to shake out with this years 5 or 6 QB's taken in the first round. Not to harp on Fields as I could use Trubisky as well, but both have the physical skills to play at the highest level and Fields athleticism and throwing ability is off the charts. But mentally he never could adjust to the NFL, learning to process information instantly and get rid of the ball quickly. ... I remember a seminar hosted by a scout my son and I attended for high school football players looking to be recruited for college and the one thing that stuck with me was the speed of the game. He said you must play faster than everyone else or as he put it "You must play at college speed in high school". This is as much mental as physical so processing information quickly and reacting is the key. He said when he puts on tape, he expects to see someone playing much faster than everyone around him. Better to make mistakes playing fast than play at the speed everyone else is playing. I think we all know it is a big jump from high school to college, but pales in comparison to the HUGE leap from college to the NFL. ... It is that mental ability that separated Tom Brady from Jamis Winston. I think Williams and Maye are already there. Most likely Daniels and Nix too. I have a suspicion McCarthy may struggle here and why I hope he goes to the Vikings LOL. Pennix is a mystery to me as far as translating how he will transition to the NFL. Of course like every GM that has lost their job, I could be wrong on all of them. But one way or the other, this years QB class will be talked about for years to come.
  12. ... Since the Falcons didn't trade for Fields you are dead to me. And I won't make you eat the feathers, but I will be making you a nice Crow Tartare. I have already bet they will do better than 8.5 games this season. It is time for the Historic Franchise to return to relevance in the NFL.
  13. ... Pretty crazy. I imagine it is very much like the golf swing. A fine line between what is natural and what can be improved while maintaining the things that already work. Can Rodgers and Mahomes improve their footwork but not take away from their off platform ability to make throws from "poor" passing positions? When I played we had 8mm projectors and if the film got burnt or stretched, it was gone LOL.
  14. ... Well, the draft is almost here. Gotta say as a Bears fan, this is the first time since 1985 I have complete confidence the Bears will be selecting a potential franchise QB in Caleb Williams. I do think Maye is a much safer pick and still has the potential to be a franchise QB, because I think Williams has a lower floor but I think he has a higher ceiling. I would like to see them take a DE at #9 or if an OT with a very high grade is still available I think that could produce a more reliable offense than one of the 3 standout WR's. With K Allen, DJ Moore and C KMet already in the fold, there are just so many balls to go around. But then again, nobody from the front office called to ask what I thought. ... The other aspect I am super interested in is if Danials goes ahead of Maye. As a HUGE Maye fan, I would hate to see him go to DC and play for Kingsbury. My nightmare is the Vikings trading up to take Maye. Keeping in mind I thought Mahomes would struggle in the NFL I expect Maye to be a much better NFL QB than Danials. All easy for me to say from the comfort of my Lazy Boy and many a GM has lost their job picking the wrong QB because as we all know, predicting how a college QB will play in the NFL is far from an exact science. But I do feel relatively secure in saying drafting Williams at #1 will be in the Bradshaw, Elway, Manning, Luck and Burrow camp, not the Russell, Carr, George and Couch camp.
  15. ... Thanks amigo! I can't imagine a better test for the Autoflex. Recently finding my Holy Grail with the standard Qi10 and dialing in my Ventus Red Velo has me driving the ball better than anytime in my golfing life. But who doesn't like longer if it is equally accurate? Super excited about testing the Dream 7 and sharing the results with my online golf family.
  16. ... Liv/pga tour feud is kind like a $175k Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 SUV and a $185k BMW XM Label arguing in a parking lot over which one gets to take up two parking spaces instead of each taking one spot. ... I am a perfect example of a long time Pga tour viewer that has lost interest because of the greed by both parties. I still watch the Majors and every LPGA event, but not most Pga Tour stops and never Liv.
  17. ... I have played golf for almost 40 years and I have never heard the term air shot. So if "air shot" means a swing and completely missing the ball, it counts if they were taking a swing and trying to make contact. No different than teeing up on a par 3 and digging the club into the ground and not making contact with what I guess you would call a "ground shot".
  18. ... So common sense and being considerate of others? I am repeating myself on this topic because it seems like whenever MGS posts about hot topics we get first posts from someone that didn't read the previous responses. ... We should all be able to do whatever makes our rounds more enjoyable long as it doesn't infringe on others ability to do the same. If someone prefers no music at all (and I used to be firmly in that camp) it is easy enough to play music so low they will never hear it. The only exception would be sharing a cart with someone you get paired up with and in that case I simply would not play music. ... It should go without saying but it is amazingly inconsiderate and rude to play your music LOUD enough to disturb others. I play 4 to 5 times a week and honestly it is rare for Bro Golfers to do this but they are usually the same group that drives on tee boxes and near greens, doesn't rep[air ball marks to divots and drink to an excess. The thing is if it happens twice a week it seems like a lot but they are certainly the minority in my experience. ... The bottom line is it is possible to please all the people all the time as long as you are considerate of your partners.
  19. ... Yup Scotty and I play the exact same club with the exact same specs. With the exception of mine at 10.5* turned down twice. And a Ventus Red instead of a Ventus Black. And his is 78 gms while mine is 58.5 gms. Oh yea and his is X flex and mine is R flex. But other than those very minor differences we could swap drivers and probably not even notice any difference.
  20. ... I have 4 different color pairs I rotate and 3 new in the box reserve Biom's. Although 75% of my rounds are walked in the white ones hence the reserves. If you pay close attention to the Ecco website they often have some great sales. There is also an Ecco store at the Premium Outlet not too far from my home where I bought two pair. $199 full price but I paid under $100 for every pair. (other than my first pair I paid full price at the PGA SS)
  21. ... It is a mistake so many make. Swinging "hard" instead of swinging "fast". Men have so much muscle in their chest and arms they want to use it in a forceful way. One of my favorite drills is one Davis Love III used taught to him by his Dad, and he was a great instructor. ... Start with 150 yd drives using a driver and a full swing. Everything must be slowed down to only hit it 150. It really exposes anything out of sequence. After 10 in a row in a grid, DLIII would move to hitting it 200yds with a full swing so he was now swinging a little faster. Then 250 swinging pretty close to full speed swings and then moving to 300 he was swinging fully. He found attempting to hit out 350 his sequence could suffer and like Am's he could hit some big drives but some really bad shots because he was over swinging. Most don't have the patience for this drill but it is a real eye opener for more than a few.
  22. ... Indiana humidity is very different than dry desert heat. I would say 100* here is equivalent to 80 with humidity. 110* is hot but when slowly working our way to that temperature, it isn't anywhere near as bad as 90* with high humidity.
  23. ... Other than a private club (and even they might be subject to a lawsuit) when temps get to 110* and above telling someone they need their shirts tucked and trapping their body heat is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Last summer in Phoenix July had 30 out of 31 days at 110* or higher. Some days it was considerably higher.
