2023 MGS Forum: Cobra 50th Anniversary Special!
chisag replied to GolfSpy_APH's topic in Forum Testing Reviews
... Thanks. Before moving to Phoenix and experiencing grainy Bermuda greens, I very rarely changed putters and played my Bobby Grace 6330 for over 10 years. But these difficult greens changed that and I have used more putters in 3 years than I have the 40 or so years while playing in the Midwest. I thought I was set with my Cleveland 11S mallet but with no roll technology it was always subject to a challenge. Originally I was going to try a more radical Cobra mallet putter but after taking my Nike 07 out for a practice round I realized how much I missed a blade putter and of course the Nike has roll face tech. I am hoping when winter rolls around the Sport-60 will perform as well as it has on summer greens and stays in my bag for years to come. -
... I am looking forward to MGS testing because the only potential drawback of the V3 would be the quality of construction. For me it is very similar to the Maxfli Tour at less than half the price. And the Maxfli was already a great deal. Fwiw, I didn't like any versions of the Kirkland Signature balls after the 4 piece OG was discontinued but the V3 is very close in performance. At $27.99 for TWO dozen bought at Costco I don't know why anyone would not at least give them a try.

... Hey, if you wanna kick a senior citizen when he is down after playing a glow in the dark 3D round of miniature golf with the score secondary to "falling down and can't get up" with blurry illusions everywhere. You evidently aren't the "nice guy" you pretend to be. -
... Great stuff Gary! While not adding swing speed, I credit the same kind of exercises for me not losing club head speed. At 70 I am still hitting the ball about as far as I did in my mid 50's. All of it helps your golf swing without effecting your rhythm, and becoming stronger and more flexible you will of course naturally hit the ball further. But I have neglected Yoga after some shoulder problems and your post has reminded me I need to start again. Namastay.

... The irony was at my glow in the dark 3D mini golf adventure, once you hit the first putt you rarely has a backswing for the next 1 or 2. Everything was a 3D obstacle so the plastic stock putter may have even been a better choice since banging it of boards/metal structures and "others" would be damage free. But I do agree, it was a fun challenge for families and in your case an old friend. -
... Doubt it is needed here. Excuses for an equipment purchase is the only thing we do with more excuses than ... ball marks, noise, movement, new putter, old putter, sun in eyes, too much shade, too uphill, too downhill, different type of grass and I accidentally hit the ball with my practice stroke as excuses for 3 putting.

... Well I wouldn't know about 9-5. My job is usually something like Call Time 5am and That's A Wrap around 8pm. Exactly why I only do it a couple times a year. -
... Interesting takes. To be fair, for some it was not a business decision but a moral decision. Like I said I don't care what happens to any of them but if Monahan promised me I would be rewarded for staying with the PGA Tour and also promised LIV players would be banned for life and then went back on his promise, I would expect to be rewarded. They would not be getting any LIV funding, they would be getting their reward from the PGA Tour. Of course it is all PIF now so I guess where the money comes from is just semantics. ... But that said, if I took a moral stand I wouldn't care about more money. Hideki was mentioned earlier as someone that stood to perhaps gain $500,000,000 for his team if he joined LIV. Hideki's current net worth is estimated at $40,000,000. When is it enough money if you have to sell your soul? Maybe we should ask Bernie Madoff, Martin Shkreli and Elizabeth Holmes what they think.

... Exactly. If you have been swinging at a consistent speed for a long time, attempting to "swing as fast as you can" means getting outside your comfort zone and that usually means losing your technique. Again in hindsight I think a better approach for me would be attempting to "swing a little faster" while maintaining my technique. So if you are swinging a driver 95mph, instead of trying to swing it 105 without a ball, try getting to 97. If after a couple months you are now at 97 for a baseline, attempt to get to 99. At some point you will experience diminishing returns or stall at a given speed so time to stop. For those young and flexible, you can probably continue push yourself further but for older players with an established swing and proper technique, adding 3-5 mph would seem like at attainable goal if they are willing to put in months of training. ... But again maintaining your technique. If you haven't tried speed training, I think some may be surprised how difficult it is to maintain your technique and swing faster. I tried swinging much faster my first session and was surprised to see I was swinging about 2 mph faster but felt like I was swinging soooo much faster. In order to get to 5-10 mph faster I had to abandon my technique because swing speed theory says you are just training your muscles (and brain) to swing faster and technique isn't important because speed training swing and your swing with a ball are completely different. That theory just didn't work for me.

... Once Monahan shamefully used the 9/11 families as propaganda when it suited his purposes then turned his back on them when it serves his purposes, I really don't care what happens to any of them.

... Right up there with "Cheese gets moldy past it's expiration date" ... Since the only position I played through college was QB I have always appreciated great QB play, regardless of the team. If they were good guys, I was a fan. So loved watching the Bears play against Favre but not Rodgers as he was always an arrogant azz, at least when it came to the Bears. Favre would never have said "I own you" even though he did. But I still appreciated Rodgers play. I always want to see the Bears win, but my only fun years to watch (other than '85) is when Cutler was their QB. If Fields learns to actually play QB this team could be fun, but I have serious doubts. He holds the ball longer than Kevin Na takes to hit a shot. ... So I would much rather watch the Bears, Chiefs, Chargers or the Bills win .... but the Packers losing is a close 2nd and more because of the fans than the team. -

... Are you gonna try and get Jordan Love to split the cost of the dozen balls you owe me at the end of the season? Or 2 dozen if the Bears win the NFC North? -

... Amen. I could not be happier for a Pro Sports Team than the Lions. After so many years of suffering a myriad of close calls* and letting down some of the greatest to play the game in B Sanders and C Johnson how can you not pull for them? I of course want to see the Bears win the division, but if they don't I will be rooting for the Lions. * the mythical drop by Megatron that was clearly a TD and Swift dropping the winning perfectly throw TD pass when all alone at the end of the game both providing the Bears with an unearned win come to mind. -

... 80* and muggy sounds good to me right now, as long as there aren't any gnats/mosquitos. As we all know, everywhere is a trade off. We desperately need rain and JR needs some sunny skies. I am guessing TS has both, plenty of rain but plenty of sun and high heat to go with it. ... I'll say this about Phoenix. It is easy to get spoiled in the winter. Other than several days here and there in the 50's, the moderate temps of 65-80 with bright blue skies is heaven for a golfer. But I imagine if it were like this all year round, I would take it for granted so the intense heat maybe 15-20 days during summer just makes me appreciate the rest of the year. It also helps that I enjoy 100-110* with low humidity as it keeps this ole football wracked up body loose and as pain free as I could hope for. But I never want to experience cold temps mosquitoes and gnats or heavy rain and lightening for 20 out of 30 days again. That said, nobody likes 117*. -
... Sure you can. Use a baseball bat, or a canoe paddle or a garbage disposal. Whatever it takes.

... Very well stated. But here is the rub for me. I took almost a full year to understand the differences between grainy, gnarly Bermuda and lush, thick bent grass round the greens. After experimenting with different lofts, sole grinds and bounce I dialed in my MG3 wedges and my short game became as reliable here in the desert as it was back in the Midwest, even though my approach is completely different. Less LW flying to the hole and much more bump and runs with my GW. The Snake Bite wedges just perform very differently, especially the full face LW and most everything is out of whack, mostly because they just spin too much for the short game I have honed in. I want my wedges to stop when needed, roll out when called for or any kind of shot in-between. As TCB suggested earlier, I can manipulate them by closing the face and moving my ball position but that is something I don't need to do with my MG3's and I am not interested in changing my short game. As much as I love most every Cobra in my bag at the moment, the SB wedges are outliers for me but thankfully many of my fellow constants seem to love theirs.
