  1. Would I rather go to a practice round in person and then watch the actual golf at home?  Absolutely

Would I straight up trade $3k worth of tickets for a $6k ticket, no chance.

But if there was some financial compensation thrown in I would 100% pick a practice round over an actual round.

  2. I've been using Frogger for years, I think I'm on my 3rd one.  I also have a Groove it and it's been great.  I like having the combo of both, Frogger most of the time but Groove it when I need the water.  My only complaint is I really wish the Groove It brush head sat at an angle instead of a T.  I find myself using it more just to get water on my golf ball to clean it off when there isn't a ball washer handy.

I did just get my kid the caddie splash but he's had it all of one day so no opinion on it yet.

I have not had any issues so far with the Groove It and the magnet.

Not my first rodeo with the Stack, but is this typical of everyone else’s experience in phase 2 of Full Speed Spectrum?  I’m really focusing on recovery and rest but so far after two workouts that now include lots of overload (heavy) training, my 195g speeds are taking a hit.  I’m confident it all pays off long term, just curious if everyone has experienced this too…

I took a big hit in the middle, then out of nowhere hit some PR's with 195g.  Had two sessions in a row where a single swing hit 119mph and 120mph with the 195g.  I really wish I could replicate whatever feels I had during those two sessions but it hasn't come back yet 🙂

  4. Hope they play bad, but expect them to play well.  Either way try to play my game and just be a little bit better than them.

I can honestly say they only time I've ever rooted for an opponent in match play was one time in a double's best ball match.  We were getting absolutely demolished but one of our opponents was on a heater.  It reached a point half way through the match that I was just rooting for him because I wanted to see how low he could go.

He shot 64 on his own ball.  It was impressive.

  5. Can't believe it's been 6 months since we started this testing!  I'm still going strong, about 3/4 through my 3rd program.  This one has been a grind.  I was having some bad enough shoulder pain that I went in to the doctor.  Had an MRI and no tears, some fluid where it wasn't supposed to be and some arthritis, but after two attempts at cortizone shots I'm pain free again.  This has been a lingering pain since before I started Stack, so I don't believe speed training caused this at all.  i continued Stack through all of that but you can see my progress suffered.  it was an absolute grind in the middle there, but it sure it fun again now!  Just hit a new PR on the 195g today.  130mph here I come!!

But different from just playing a single ball if you could put out multiple balls in play?

I would think in the interest of time, you could play multiple balls at once, but each would have to be played on it's own.  No scramble situation or muligans.

Since you can pick up any time after a bad shot though, you could sit on the tee box on par 3's and keep hitting until you get one close.

I don’t think there would be enough time! If you gave 48 total hours it would probably be more doable. 24 hours would only be an hour and 20 min per hole, so would greatly depend how hard the course is. Great thread though!

Once you birdie a hole though you don't have to play it anymore, so would be end up being more time per hole on the tougher ones.

  8. I saw this also via golf twitter/instagram.  There are a few rules with more details.  Just apply it to your home course and normal tee's so we don't have to worry about things like length/rating/slope.  You can pick the days and times so you also can play in decent weather.

    • You have the whole course to yourself
    • You can play in any order and play the hole as many times as you want in the time allowed
    • You don't have to finish the hole if you hit a bad one. i.e. shank one just pick up and start over
    • The 24 hours is split in to 6 x 4 hour sessions so fatigue isn't an issue
    • No mulligans

It's a very interesting question, at first glance it does seem doable.  However, the more I think about it and how often I actually birdie certain holes at my course, it may be harder than I think.

Since we had a pretty nice winter, did you get out to any of the courses that stayed open but are probably closed now that we got all that snow overnight?

I feel like either head sizes are getting bigger, or there is just more visibility on the subject so more companies are "trying" to start to offer the larger sizes. We are probably just at the beginning of it which is why stock is hard to find or prices are so high.

I like that Melin has a limited lineup now of golf oriented hats. Hopefully they can expand on it with more colors and logos.

Like I said before, I really like my Mammoth hat, but for a few extra bucks there is Melin.

I'm in the NW metro on The Links at Northfork.  We opened on 3/4 and I got 4 rounds in here.  I did play 9 at Sundance in Maple Grove on 2/1.

Yeah, I love that we are finally getting more options!  Maybe I can finally stop having to snip the elastic on the inside of flex fit hats in 3-4 places to get it to not give me a headache 🙂

  10. I'm in the same boat (and also in MN!)  I bought my first Melin hat last year and it changed my life.  I now have stacks of old hats I'll never wear again.  And for some reason they are still sitting there 🙂

I went A-game in the XL size and for the first time ever I have all but 2 of the snaps attached!  I've had it for almost a year and it still looks brand new.  I want to buy more, but at $70 a pop I haven't done it yet.

I also had semi good luck with specifically a 110 flexfit snap back.  I can get 3 snaps closed on those and since it's flexfit and snapback it's fairly comfortable.  The one I got last year was Callaway branded.  It was the best thing I found on a "regular" hat until I tried Melin.

I know Titleist does make an XL/XXL in it's fitted hats, but they are harder to find.  I've personally never tried one, but it's on my radar if I ever run in to one.

New this year Taylormade is offering all (or most?) of their hats in a bigger XL size.  Dan Rappaport announced it last year on the Foreplay podcast.  I haven't tried any yet but I'm hopeful they may fit better.

I had been eyeing Mammoth for a while, I always get their ads on instagram.  But if their cost is 60-65 I think I'll just stick with Melin when I feel like splurging.  Everyone bags on Melin for their cost, but if you are member of the big head club and finally find something that fits right and looks good it's worth every penny.

FWIW on most normal snapbacks I'm also a 2 snaps if I'm lucky, 1 snap if I'm not on the fit.  Most look like I'm trying to squeeze into a size schmedium.

For those of you that have used some sort of swing speed enhancer tool, have you noticed any change in your swing?  I'd like to give one a try but don't want it to adverserly effect my swing.

Please let me know your thoughts

I have not noticed any adverse effects for my swing yet.  I've only got 4 rounds in this spring (but yay 4 rounds already in MN!!) and ball striking has not be negatively effected.  I'm on my 3rd program with The Stack system and have gained 11mph through the first 2 programs.

Do you have to have a launch monitor (swing speed measurement device) with all of these tools?

Technically you don't have to, but it would be like taking a test and never knowing if your answers were actually correct?  It would be very hard to tell if you are actually faster without the immediate feedback from a swing speed monitor.  For instance there are many times it feels like I am swinging out of my shoes, but it will actually be a few MPH slower than a smoother swing.

Also depending on the swing speed tool you are using it may or may not work.  I can't see using The Stack without a measurement device.  Haven't ever tried Rypstick so not sure what that is tracking.  Superspeed you could do the protocols without a device, but again you would have no way to see if you are actually faster or not.

  13. "Durable Pearl Nickel Chrome anti-glare finish protects the club head and enhances feel"

From the specs the above is listed.

Clean them and wipe them down and you should be good to go, no special treatment needed.  Typically only raw irons or wedges will rust.  A chrome finish shouldn't.

I also wouldn't be hugely concerned with protecting your investment.  Yes, take care of your clubs.  You want them to last for the length that you choose to use them.  However don't look at them as a financial investment.  They aren't worth much used no matter how well you take care of them.

  14. I think the big question is, specifically, what do you want new irons to do that your current irons aren't doing?  Are you actually having problems holding greens?  Are there actually gapping issues?  You keep mentioning your 7i carry distance and descent angle but those are just numbers and there's a lot more to it than that like @RickyBobby_PR already said.

What's your miss right now?  What percentage of shots would you consider "good" for your ability?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with just wanting new stuff.  I'm the one that created the club ho's anonymous thread so I completely get it.  I just think it's important to understand the rationale behind the purchase to help set expectations once you start using the new stuff.

  15. Club length is just a fitting variable.  There is nothing inherently good or bad about doing it.  If you really want to test it I would suggest putting a mark on your grip where you want to choke down to, then make sure your hands are at that mark every time as practice.

Also just something to be aware of, if you cut 1/2" off the length that is probably going to lose around 3 swing weight points.  It's possible you will want to add weight back to get the same feel as before.

  16. I live on the course and have a golf cart I can just drive up to the clubhouse.  So I start with a vodka lemonade I make at home to bring up to the course.  I currently using the ICE lemonade as a mixer.  Usually half lemonade flavor and half cherry limeade or berry lemonade flavor.  Then my current drink of choice on the course is either regular high noon's or tequilla high noons.  Yes I also have a water that I mix in from time to time.

If I'm really tired or need an energy kick I'll make that first drink with a vodka + ZOA or vodka + accelerator energy drink.

I don't believe I ever said I was a golf pro, you don't have to go pro to get a staff deal. While I'm not a pro golfer, I am a golf professional, BIG difference. I'm the tournament director at a very exclusive/prestigious club. I don't have to play well to make my living, but I do play quite a bit with our members. That being said the reps from both Cobra and Srixon/Cleveland said they'd be happy to give me a staff deal just to get their products in friendly hands and in front of our members as all of our pro pro's are already in staff deals with Titlist, TaylorMade, Callaway, and Ping. Make sense?

Sorry man, I made an assumption and as usual made an @ss out of myself 🙂  Sounds like for many of us you have the dream job 🙂

I would really look at it based on irons.  Would you rather play Cobra or Srixon irons?  For me Srixon wins that battle, but I don't really think there is a wrong answer.  From the sounds of it if you go Cobra you are probably looking at irons and top end of the bag?  If you go Srixon it's irons and wedges?  So you just have to ask would you rather have freedom to experiment with the top end, or bottom end of the bag?  Or another way to ask, would you rather have to buy your own driver, or your own wedges?

This sounds like a fun problem to have, best of luck on your decision!

  18. I agree with everything above!  I would add that part of that relationship and developing trust is on you as well.  You need to start with being honest and open with what you are looking for up front.  I would start any fitting with an open discussion of what you want to accomplish or hope to get out of a fitting.  This is also a great time to give a budget if you have one as well.

  19. From a thought exercise perspective this is fun.

If you are truly a golf pro that joined 13 hours ago and your first post is asking an internet golf forum what staff deal you should go with to set up how well you will play to earn your livelihood for the next season then this is just scary.  You should already know the answer is demo clubs from each OEM and get fit and see what works best for your game.

Now back to the thought exercise just for fun.  Like Preeway said as long as Cleveland wedges count towards your 10 I'm going Srixon all day.  You really can't go wrong with Srixon irons and Cleveland wedges are fantastic.  I'd keep our current driver, woods and putter, then between irons and wedges you've got your 10 clubs.
