  1. Good Morning everyone!! It’s 39º but will be sunny and 64º later. Today I’m headed to Home Depot for fertilizer and bermuda crabgrass killer. This afternoon my wife heads to cardiology to receive a heart monitor that she has to wear for at least two weeks; monitoring for an irregular heart beat. I hope she’s not catching what I had!! Best wishes for a great day!!
  2. I struggled to answer the poll. I’m usually a straight-ish driver but lack distance to effectively score low. Approach is my weakest part of my game because of shorter shots off the tee and inconsistent ball striking. Once I get inside 100 yards, my short game will help save an otherwise poor round or help me produce a low round. I found it difficult to determine whether the best part of my game was pitching, chipping or putting; I consider all of them to be part of the short game, including bunker play. Sometimes it’s my wedge play, other times it might be chipping or putting. The low rounds are produced when all are working; unfortunately they don’t all work well at the same time very often… so I guess my answer has to be Short Game.
  3. Happy Birthday @Josh Parker (again), @gman8966, @wolfpacker92, @lyndonbud, @Mr Orange, @DAGolfer, and @GolfSpy TCB. Hope you all find great times with family and friends today!!
  4. Good Morning everyone! OK, I’ll pile on the notifications to @Josh Parker… Have a great Happy Birthday!! Off the cardiac rehab in a couple of hours, then we have an appointment with our tax accountant to sign our tax return. Since we have both retired, we end up paying a little each year. Ugh! Next on the agenda for the day is to pick our condo stay dates for our annual winter golf trip; looks like we are headed back to Scottsdale in 2025. Hope you all have a non-manic Monday!! No golf for me today; aerating the course for the next two days… started yesterday at 2pm. I’m going to miss good putting conditions until May.
  5. Happy Birthday Bill!! I told Martha you were looking at Eleanor at the auction. Showed her the top photo where you said you now own and Eleanor Mustang. You said Wow!! He bought it!! Then showed her the bottom photo… priceless!!
  6. Good Morning everyone! Getting ready to head to the course; tee time at 7:50am. Temp is 44º but no rain in the forecast, maybe a sprinkle. The bad news is that it won’t get to 50º by the time we finish. At my age I like it a LOT warmer than that!! Found out that the course is closing at 2pm today through Tuesday for aeration; greens fairways and tee boxes. So, preferred lies in the fairways for the next week of so and poor putting for the next 6 weeks… they don’t put enough sand on the greens; the wind blows the sand off; and the irrigation washes it in the plug holes. They don’t add more sand, so it gets bumpy… and they were running nice and fast, just the way I like it!! Have a super Sunday and if you are able to play… Play Well!!
  7. Went OK. Way too much information for me; I don’t need or want to know all that data. Seems that my path at contact was slightly closed but face is slightly open and consistency is poor. Not surprising since I don’t look at the ball. I haven’t been doing much practice lately because of my back pain and weather; so I might improve that… however, They added 1º loft to my putter, now 4º and then I made 6 of 7 putts with the other hanging on the edge. Yesterday was the first time on the course with it and I had good speed, just missed a couple and made a 12 footer for birdie. The ball seems to roll a little more effortlessly. My other Ping putter which is 4 inches longer, was adjusted to the same lie angle 72º with 0º loft. Haven’t tried it yet; don’t have a good feel for how to hold the putter in reverse armlock. I had OK speed with it, but couldn’t roll the ball consistently straight.
  8. I have shot my age at least once every year since I turned 74. Gets easier every year… turn 77 in May.
  9. Sorry to hear about your brother. My condolences and prayers for you and your family.
  10. Good Afternoon everyone!! My wife and I had an early tee time this morning… got to the course… carted up… hit the range for a few practice strokes… putted a little… went pee… headed to the cart and the heavens opened up!! Rain blowing sideways!! So we decided to wait 30 minutes; I hate playing in rain and wind, but it doesn’t last long here so wait it out!! People were headed off the course; some went home. As the rain let up a little, we headed to the 1st tee; we both had par avoiding the casual water on the green… my ball between water and pin. On #2 green my wife had a nice shot from the fairway… ended up in the casual water on that green. Where are the grounds crew with their squeegees?? I shot 42 on the front… 5 bogeys. The course dried out by #9… here’s looking back down the #9 fairway from the green… sun was out. Played a little better on the back nine with a 38; birdie on #14 and sandy par on #15, but it also included a double on #18. Not a good way to end. Still a little pain in my back and it was really tight; maybe from loosening up then sitting before tee off. Another early round tomorrow. Hope you had a nice Saturday and could play. Sorry about the snow in the northeast.
  11. Good Morning everyone! Looks like it will be cloudy all day but no rain and a decent 70º. It’s been nice shutting the heat off and sleeping with the window open all week. Today is cardiac rehab at 8am, followed by a Dr. visit for my wife, then mowing the lawn for the first time this year. Hope you have a fantastic Friday and preparations for weekend golf. I am.
  12. Hi Vicki, My wife and I spent the two weeks of February in the Palm Springs area playing golf. It was quite expensive, but in June it will be relatively cheap. The well-known courses will still be a little pricey, but reasonable compared to February. Other nice courses will be very reasonable; just a matter of how much you want to spend. Most all of the courses have their own tee time booking engines; some courses use the same one. Go to their website; create an account with email and password and make tee times online. They even have deal times like GolfNow or TeeOff. You should be able to get good prices in June… HOT!! Likely 38-44ºC. Very low humidity so drink lots of water and electrolytes. Some courses nearby… There is a nice course just east of Palm Springs that I like; Indian Canyons. They have two 18 hole courses: the North Course is the old course from the 1950’s which I like; the South Course is newer and more of a resort-type course. Both are fine. I also enjoy the Palm Desert CC which is a nice easy course to start out with. In the same vicinity but more expensive is Desert Willow with two courses there, but are more challenging and expensive. The Boulder Course at Cimarron GC near the airport is wide open and reasonably priced; their Pebble Course is short (par 3’s and one par 4) but might be one of the toughest short courses I have ever played!! Hope you have a great time!! I’ve played the really nice courses; PGA West, LaQuinta, Indian Wells, all great courses and are only reasonable for me during summer pricing.
  13. Good Morning everyone! Been off the air for a few days; nursing a sore back and BIL came for a visit. Played last Saturday but barely made 9 holes and every swing hurt my back. On Sunday I mostly walked the course carrying my SW and hitting short pitches and chips around the green while my wife played. While my BIL was visiting, my wife made a tee time for Tuesday. My back felt a little better and I made a few easy full swings that didn’t hurt, but I could only play 6 holes before my massage appointment. The massage seemed to help a lot; back felt pretty good so on Wednesday I went to the range and hit a few drivers. Distance not quite back to normal, but I had no sharp pain. Nice having a couple of 80º days, but cooling off again… only high 60’s today. No golf until Saturday. Also on Wednesday I went for my SAM PuttLab experience. Overall it was enlightening but too much information for me. I got a view of my current Ping gamer, but I was really there to get my other Ping putter adjusted for reverse armlock ala Kuchar. My gamer Ping is 72º Lie and 3º Loft, but SAM PuttLab recommended increasing loft to 4º because of my forward press. Roll was much better. My reverse armlock Ping was adjusted from 70º Lie to 72º and loft decreased to 0º; almost went to -1º loft. This is an experiment and my putting with it was awful, but that is because I haven’t figured out a comfortable way to lock it to my arm, or where to play the ball in my stance. Not going to change my putter… just something to putter around with. Can’t make the Call today; it’s my wife’s turn to see the heart specialist. She is taking the Stress Test at 1pm. She is already complaining about no coffee this morning!! Hope everyone has Thrilling Thursday and for those than can… Play Well!
  14. Beware the wounded golfer!! Nice round.
  15. Courses here are open all year… weather permitting. Yes, we can get snow but it usually doesn’t stick around long. We are also usually dry so we get people driving 200 miles from Seattle or 150 miles from Spokane to play when the weather is decent. We do get 2-3 hour frost delays sometimes. The irrigation water was turned on a week ago so the grass is starting to green up. Greens are pretty quick running at 10.5 on the stimpmeter according to the Super (pretty good for a muni). In another month or so the stimp will be 11. Probably time for another aeration.
  16. @GolfSpy_BEN Congratulation! Already looking forward to what comes this next year. Keep ‘em coming!
  17. I don’t wear a glove, except when hitting a lot of balls in my hitting bay. Yes, I have callouses. Weather here is dry, so humidity is not an issue and I rarely play in rain. However, I do have gloves in my bag for the rare occasion of hot and humid locations. Since I’m playing in the MGS Forum outing at Kingsmill in Virginia end of May/first of June, I think I will begin playing with gloves to prepare for the worst.
  18. Sorry to hear Guy. I have low back pain that varies in degree of pain, but it’s mostly old age. I had an MRI 20 years ago and they said I had degenerative disk disease but my pain is mostly muscular-related. I’m living with it at nearly 77 years old. I would normally not respond with just this pain, but I know what you are going through. My wife was diagnosed with Spondylolisthesis when she was in her early 20’s. The technology wasn’t very good back then, but she finally had L5-S1 fusion in 2008 at 53. She has been playing golf since 1963 and before the surgery she was on a 100ug/hr fentanyl patch and taking four 10mg hydrocodone a day just to keep working and playing golf. After the surgery she had to get off the drugs, and now only takes one 5mg hydrocodone on days she plays golf. Since the surgery, she has learned that she has a similar issue now with L4-L5. I doubt she will have any more surgeries unless the pain gets much worse. I’m fairly certain she would have not continued to play golf much longer if she didn’t have the surgery. My biggest suggestion is to do the surgery as soon as possible, but only have it done by a neurosurgeon and NOT an orthopedic… don’t let an orthopedic touch your back!! I’m sure that the procedure has immensely improved in the last 16 years. We drove 200 miles to Seattle to have the procedure performed by a reputable neurosurgeon at Virginia Mason hospital; spent a week after the surgery at a Marriott hotel walking her around, but even then it was a painful ride back home and it was all freeway. Wish the doc was closer, but didn’t trust local docs after the office visits. Best of luck and keep us informed. You have a great support group here on the forum no matter what the issue may be.
  19. About the same thing happened to me on Jan 3. Got two stents in the right coronary artery then two weeks later got two more stents in the left artery. In cardiac rehab twice a week… that’s fun {sarcasm} but started playing golf again less than a week after the second procedure. Hang in there!!
  20. Happy Birthday @BeansGuy, @Samuel09152, @Emag315, and @MonroeBob!! Have a PAR-fect day!
  21. Yeah, I started practicing with only my right arm like Tiger and that helped with control. Funny you should mention Nicklaus; before I changed to my current putting stroke and using Heads Up putting, my stance and putting motion was similar to Jack. I found that his setup was best for my right eye dominance. The piston motion is probably a carryover from that time when I was searching for a putting game.
  22. Good Late Friday Morning everyone!! Close to freezing this morning, but this might be the last day for frost. Highs in the 60’s and 70’s through the weekend. It will be nice to play golf without 5 layers of clothes. Coffee was delayed this morning until after my cardiac rehab session. My BP seemed to be elevated during my last session… they didn’t like that for some reason. I haven’t fully recovered yet from my sore back, and I have 3 rounds of golf scheduled. My wife’s cousin is here this weekend and her BIL arrives on Monday… busy! Hope everyone has some great golf coming up and sad to hear about you @Peaksy68. Hope you can get to that restaurant soon. Don’t do what I did and ordered pizza delivered!!
  23. Thanks! We are headed to Virginia for the MGS Outing at Kingsmill so my wife and I will be driving straight through to make sure we get there in plenty of time to get our golf legs working again. On the way back we have friends to see in Georgia and Tennessee, then a stop for more friends just north of Denver. A nephew lives in Billings, so if it works out I’ll shoot you a message.
  24. Welcome to the forums!! Glad you joined us. Been a long time since I was through Sheridan, but I’ve driving to Virginia in May and I’ll get a chance to see it again!!
