  1. Welcome to the forums Hoogs from 10 hours SW of you!! Glad you joined us. It's been quite awhile since I was up your way; love the area. Spent a lot of time in Banff/Lake Louise.
  2. I can't believe that no one hasn't hit all fairways and greens in a round. Not sure how you would go about finding out for sure. Many LPGA players hit better than 80% of fairways over the course of a year, and Adam Long was 56 for 56 fairways hit last year at the World Wide Technologies Championship. Heck, I've hit every fairway at our local muni several times; and Bill , you know how hard that is!!! GIR is a different animal, but it can be done. In 1995 Peter Jacobson hit 69 out of 72 GIR at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am... missing only 3 of those small greens all week! Wow! If it hasn't been done yet, I'm betting that it will be an LPGA player that does it first.
  3. Sorry. Martha is already taken. You will be watching because she hits straight down the middle... boring!
  4. Monte doesn't like the term "weight shift" because amateurs take it to mean moving your body mass to your trail side... loading up, which he says is awful; difficult to get back to ball contact consistently and is a weak shot. He uses the term "pressure shift", meaning that pressure is moved to the trail heel while rotating in the backswing. Body stays centered. Monte has many videos posted on Instagram showing that the pressure moves from the trail heel to the lead side somewhere between lead arm parallel in the backswing and the top of the backswing. Most amateurs don't shift weight to the lead side until their backswing is completed... way too late. This is something I have also been working on... trying to get the proper sequence. My swing thought is to turn my right hip in the backswing and then turn my left hip in the downswing. Getting better, but still hard to change an old habit.
  5. Happy Birthday @Pappyvanroyl, @TuukkaH, @Jim418, and @scott80109!! Have a great day and a nice round of golf!
  6. Nice! I'm sure that it makes about the same number of putts as my $160 Ping.
  7. Good Morning everyone! 39º and will be about 50º and sunny today. The demolition of my patio cover is complete, but they ran into a snag trying to remove the old concrete footings. What was to be a 2-3 day job looks like it won't be completed until we get back from Palm Springs at the end of the month. The contractor knew we were going to be out-of-town but assured us that it would be completed before we leave. I don't think they can finish by Monday... My wife and I are playing at our sister course tomorrow across the Columbia River because our course has a Super Bowl tournament. The good news is that it will be a drier course so maybe we will get some rollout on drives! Have a great Friday and play well!
  8. That is exactly how our junior golf teaching pro starts out his juniors, and they are very good!! They feel comfortable going low and get a lot of short game work along the way. You are on the right track... well done and have fun with it.
  9. That's nothing!! When I was 10 years old, I broke my right ankle. My right leg has been 1/2" short ever since. Last year I put a 1/2" lift in the heel of my golf shoes and my sneakers. I think it has helped my low back pain. Maybe I should have done it 30 years ago and I would have a better golf swing now!!
  10. I was a Boy Scout!! Went camping every summer (and one winter in the snow); cut myself with a pocket knife, and look how I turned out... sitting here looking at a tiny screen and typing this.
  11. I remember Bill; I was there a year ago. I expect to pay more when traveling to high peak season places, especially in winter, but the prices have changed so much in the past two years; easily up 30%. Now I have to re-think vacation plans. We always travel some place warm (Scottsdale, Palm Springs back and forth the past several years, but maybe we wait until the peak season dies down a little. Maybe we travel somewhere a little less costly. Well, I have a few months to think about it for next year.
  12. I was shocked when I started trying to book tee times last week for our yearly trip to a warmer place in the winter. We are headed to Palm Springs next week, and Yes I know that is a pricey are to play golf. I've been there every other year for the past 8 years. There are courses that are easily over $250 a pop... for my wife and I that's $500. We typically have looked for courses and deals that were around $80-120. This year there is virtually nothing in that range unless you booked weeks in advance. Courses I played two years ago are now $150+ and two weeks out, they are booked until twilight and then it's still $100 with no guarantee of finishing before dark. Many of the top end courses are in the $400+ range. Many years ago I played PGA West Nicklaus Tournament course for $100. Today the rate at 12:50pm is $445 and the next tee time is 1:20pm for $120. I have to seriously think about future travel plans based on cost of golf.
  13. Good Morning everyone!! Hope you are having a great day and the weather permits some golf. 37º now but headed to 51º and sunny this afternoon. Yesterday's practice session went well, and I would do it again today but a contractor is coming at 9am to tear down my patio cover and erect a new one. Here is what it look like now, except this photo was take a couple of years ago in the spring... This cover is 20 years old and while it still is functional except for a couple of leaks, I don't like it. New patio cover should be completed by Monday. Stay tuned...
  14. Happy Birthday @Campbell Toe!! Enjoy your day!
  15. The lesson that isn’t worth it is the one where you don’t get along with the instructor.
  16. I had the same feeling when I tried the Tour Edge hybrids. I ended up with the Callaway 9W.
  17. PW - set MacGregor VIP Tourney 1025M at 48º. Shaft is Nippon N.S. Pro Zelos 8 Regular flex. SW - Callaway 2019 PM Grind at 54º with 14º bounce.. C-Grind; KBS Tour 90 Regular flex. LW - Callaway 2019 PM Grind at 60º with 12º bounce.. C-Grind; KBS Tour 90 Regular flex. My favorite wedge in my bag as can be seen by sole wear.
  18. Chuck, the next time your ball comes to rest on the edge of the cup, position your shadow over the ball. The blades of grass will relax and the ball will fall. I've done it!!
  19. Good Morning everyone!! Hope your Wednesday is filled with good shots and no humps and bumps. Another 38º morning but with no rain forecasted so high today might reach 48º with little to no sun. Wife has Ladies League today so I will head to the course after it warms up a little and take a couple of hours honing my short distance driver shots and improving my 3 Releases for short game shots. But first... a little workout.
  20. Not bad... I see a name change for you in the future.
  21. You are safe on that limb; most common issues for 94.2% amateurs trying to learn the game on their own.
  22. I have used Pure Grips for more than 10 years and sorry to see them go. The DTX was my favorite but I switched to their Pure Pro last year because the DTX was a little too rough on these old hands (don't wear a glove). I have enough stock to last a few years so they might last until I can't play anymore. It not, I'll look at the Star grips or possibly Lamkin. I only put grips on with air.
  23. It's a fun course and tough. The ladies Epson Tour played there last year. I have never seen discounts for CR at the golf show, but haven't been to the show in years. Missing it again this year; headed to Palm Springs instead!! We always get the CR Stay & Play package since we both play and it's a good deal; we have to stay somewhere anyway!!
  24. Well, @barney_bogey is correct. I don't know anyone that has fixed a slice on their own; I tried... didn't work. Your issue is either in your setup, backswing, or transition to downswing... or maybe a problem in all three. Your ability to hit the ball as well as you do indicates that you are compensating for your swing flaws pretty well. A good teaching pro will identify your issues and tell/show you which one to correct first. Once that issue is fixed, then you can move on to other issues. Trying to fix more than one issue at a time is a recipe for bad golf and frustration. It's not a quick fix; it's a journey and we are all on the same journey... just different points along the path Good luck!
