  1. Oh I know how you feel---- 2 weeks ago I had played 6 days straight and my big butt was whipped. I have to keep a notebook do I forget what I signed up for. I did a tally for May and I came up with 15 rounds, 2 Shootout rounds and as of last night 2 Nine and Dine rounds. Not too bad 18 rounds. Retirement is great. This is what I had planned on my retirement to be it is just coming 3 years late
  2. I can feel for you we have lost several over the years. For us since we do not have kids or grandkids our dogs are like children to us. We lost one last year which was expected. We rescued a 12 year old chiwawa who was a one owner dog whose owner had died. He had a myrid of health problems which the agency paid the vet bills for. Of course he seemed lost all the time. His human was a lady but for some reason he took up with me. Last July his cancer came back and got into his brain. The vet was going to come by and put him down here at the house one afternoon. He actually died in my arms about an hour before she was to come over. We had him a short time and we knew what would come but we wanted him to live out his days being well cared for. Still it was hard We have a French Bulldog we adopted right after the chiwawa and it is a story with in itself. They became best friends
  3. I agree 110% that is why I said what I said. Kids now days are not taught AT HOME to have respect for adults and that includes teachers. I have a friend of mine who taught here in the public schools for 15 years. He got tired of the back talk and not being able to do much about it. He quit got his CDL license and is driving a dump truck in fact making better money and less BS. Right now in SC we have a drastic shortage of teachers. All the BS and low pay is to blame
  4. Yep you are just up the road from me some 50 miles
  5. Being a school teacher these days in time I will say the summer break is well earned
  6. In the case at our course they can not use Covid for an excuse. They did not rake the traps before Covid and the course quit replacing rakes. It is sorta a bone of contention between management and members. Last year the course spent money on some traps. One of the owners announced at the Shootout one Saturday that the traps were in play. One bunch from the other Men's League went to howling ( they do not play out of the traps) and said if the traps were in play they would not play in the Shootouts any more. Our league does allow for us to improve the lie in our traps which is needed. The owner threw up his hands in disgust and said **** it have it your way. He could not afford to lose like 35 players and has not spent any money on traps or rakes since and I can not blame him
  7. WOW what a small world we live in. My best Navy salute to you guys
  8. WOW!!! Glad you guys were able to play since I see you are from out of state. We were not as lucky as we got pounded with rain and wind all weekend 80 miles North of you in the Grand Strand area of SC
  9. Up as usual this morning 2nd cup of coffee downed. No real plans for today just depends on what I can get done in the yard. As much rain as we got I doubt it will be much except maybe spreading mulch in the flower beds. Yesterday I did exactly like I said I would do after Church went up to the Vietnam wall at what is called Market Common which is on the old AFB. The rain made it more somber than ever. Stood there under my umbrella with my thoughts as others did. On the way back stopped by a local place called Hamburger Joe's and got us some hot dogs and a order of onion rings to go. My wife goes to a different church than I do. I left there in the past not due to any differences but I was running sound in different Churches and settled to where I am at now. I like where I am at and she likes where she is at so there we are. Settled in and watched the golf. Was real interested in the LIV since HVIII was leading the individual. He is from Gastonia NC and I knew his Grandfather and Father. He ended up winning. I switched over to the Tour Champions just in time to see the playoff between Stricker and Padrig.
  10. Our traps are so inconsistent and rakes are sparse besides no one rakes anyhow IF they can find a rake. Our league play we can move the ball in a trap one club length and you can rake and place the ball. Now you can not build a tee in the trap. In fact one of our members has been called on that several times along with other stuff and was suspended for 2 weeks after our last tournament
  11. LOL on the Pugtatoes. Most Frenchie owners and breeders refer to Frenchies as Potatoes anyhow. Mine is colored the same as a Pug. In fact most folks not knowing specific differences in the breeds think he is a Pug. Officially in the Frenchie world and AKC he is Fawn colored
  12. A little departure from my usual morning routine. Got my wife up early and we went to the Waffle House. Decided to go early to beat what tourists we have left. Sunday mornings they are up by 9 or so ready to eat before they blow town. Our 22 years experience proved prudent. We got in and out quickly. Since that WH is about 1000 yards from my Church we swung by and I fired off the sound system plus adjusted the temp in the booth. Also got a to go order of Hash Browns for our French Bulldog Mr Tank. He loves them and is smart about it. Loves those things. You can tell him we are going to the WH and he perks up and he knows what Hashbrowns mean. And yes it is still raining like it has all weekend. I will scoot out about 9:30 or so to run the sound for the 10:30 service then I am going like I said to Dirty Myrtle to see the Mobile Vietnam Wall Memorial. Like I said before rain hell or high water will not keep me away.
  13. I have one at least that old------ I also have an old school Titleist shag bag that is at least 30 years old. I use both as occasion dictates. Now when I use the old school bag I use one of those ball pick up things like you put on a putter. I have it on an old shaft witha grip at both ends. That saves my stressed out back
  14. I went back to bed after the last post and slept to 9:00. We got up and had a hearty breakfast of sausage gravy and biscuits. It is sorta damp not really cold since we live 1/2 mile off the ocean as the crow flies plus we have a lake about 100 yards from the house. Yep it gets damp and a little wet chill so I fired off the wood stove with a small fire to take the damp chill off. Put on a second pot of coffee. Kinda adds to the ambience and coziness of the day. The Frenchie and my wife are curled up in her big recliner cuddled up and asleep. I may take another nap myself
  15. Well no golf for us today. Raining in Biblical Proportions with wind gusts of 45 MPH. It actually started Thursday late. Yesterday was on and off showers. The big stuff got here about 3 AM or so this morning. It is pounding right now. I know the small money Friday game was called off. My course sent out the member texts last night saying the Shootout for Saturday and some kind of Ladies event for Sunday afternoon had cancelled. We will sit in today and as SOP for us ride it out. My wife did all the shopping Thursday as usual so we have plenty of provisions. Supposedly this will blow through Sunday afternoon. I know the Tourism Commission in Dirty Myrtle is already crying about Motel cancellations etc. They are predicting 3 1/2 inches of rain through Sunday afternoon. Yep we will stay in dry and watch the golf later on TV. I make no bones about it for me after the Seniors go off I will watch the LIV. I am not into the political aspect of things and frankly I enjoy those events and seeing Lefty Bubba and HV III play. Just hope it dries out enough by Tuesday to where it is not CPO.
  16. LOL being retired I dress how ever I want to. My club does not have a dress code so to speak but I mostly wear golf shorts and a golf shirt. Come to think about it I wear basically the same thing out to eat and to church. Around the house and the shop I wear older faded shorts and some kind of printed t-shirt. LOL if not playing golf I always wear crocs. Down here I will admit this is a resort and retirement area so I am not out of the norm. LOL when I was doing my deposition on my WC case after my accident the lady lawyer asked if I could bend over and tie my shoes. I told her I did not know. She was shocked. She asked what about golf? I told her I wore Sketchers slip ins (now days Skoni slip ins) She said well what about church? I told her I wore Crocs that no one at my church gave 2 rips what anyone wore. She asked what about winter? I told her they made thick hunting socks that are sold at Wal Mart if it was too cold for them then my back would not work and I was not leaving the house. LOL after that she abandoned that line of questioning. FTR I do not own any kind of suit or sport coat and certainly no ties. if I have to go somewhere that requires that or dress shoes then I am staying home. My lace up steel toed work boots I had on at my accident are sitting still 3 years later in the back of my closet
  17. Oh yeah I told my wife I was going no matter if I had to fight off every dope dealer and street thug with a 38 revolver which BTW I am pretty accurate with still. LOL the other week I was walking the Frenchie and when we do we pack. That has happened ever since 2 years ago a Pit bull which was not supposed to be in here to begin with attacked my wife and Chiuawawa. The dog ended up dying. We also have coyotes in the area which I had not seen one myself. I went to take him out about 5:30 or so. Just grabbed the wife's Lady Smith 5 shot 38. Had a copperhead poke out from the corner of the porch and rared back at my dog. I cleared leather and took his head off at about 10 yards one shot woke the whole neighborhood up. What is funny I had not shot that gun in 10 years. Assuring to know my reflexes and accuracy are there. Usually when I pack I have been carrying my 380 auto military style sometimes my Charter Arms 5 shot 44 Bulldog Special which is also small and light.
  18. LOL if you type out Dicks on WRX it will ***** it out you have to put DSG
  19. Part of my weekend plans which have been in the plans all along come hell or high water. We have the portable Vietnam Memorial up in Dirty Myrtle thru Monday. Remember I have not been to Dirty Myrtle in 2 1/2 years now have no use for it ,it's criminals, the beer baroness Mayor or their politics. But I am going. My friend I knew in the Navy is like the 4 or 5th last name on the wall. I am going Sunday after Church. Yeah Dirty Myrtle is not going to hold me back.
  20. Well up this AM coffee as usual. More than likely no golf this weekend. We already have rain coming in. Fact yesterday afternoon it started. I had not scheduled any golf for today anyhow. Had planned on mulching the flower beds. Which I can do between showers if I want. Saturday I was scheduled as a fill in on a Shootout team again. But with the incoming weather I do not think that is happening now. Decided to lay off until Tuesday on the golf. I know for certain I will need to cut grass again after the rain so Monday is cut grass day. Depending on the weather I guess we will stay in Saturday and chill out
  21. DL is one cool cookie---- We are together on 2 threads over on WRX
  22. Well fine folks it aint morning but it is afternoon. I appreciate all the well wishes. I ended up 3rd out of 40 players. I had a bad front 9 but it could have been worse had a stellar back nine. My playing partner in our last group nipped me by 1 shot. We got a laugh out of it because 4 years ago before I had my accident he nipped me by one shot in the Championship no handicap flight for a Multi Club Championship. One of our older members who is a high handicapper had a stellar day and took my bud by one and me by 2 shots. Well deserved for him. Like I said a lot of folks gave me congrats because they know where I came from 3 years ago. I count it personally as a win. Looking forward to building on it
  23. Good Morning up early as SOP for me. Of course the Folgers was ready at 3 AM. Got the conclusion of the Tournament today. Like I said I am tied for the lead and the last group off. Took it easy yesterday and did do a light practice session. Not really nervous at all. I want to win it but if I do not I already have a win in my opinion. Really after all I have been through the last 3 years I am glad to be playing golf period much less being in contention. I am not deviating from my normal routine at all.
  24. And most people do not have the common sense to realize that. I hear it all the time they take lessons from Joe The Pro and expect an instant elixir without effort. Down here some will take a series of lessons do not practice on their own and expect miracles. When they do not improve they want to blame the instructor. I talked to one of my buds who is an instructor and told him I could not take that. He told me it was part of the game and he was making good money doing it. As he put it you can lead a horse to water but you can not make him drink. He also stresses up front that one needs to practice so his concience is clear
