  1. After hitting 3 wood off the tee near exclusively for the last 2 weeks (save a 2 of the 4 par 5's and the #1 handicap hole, a long uphill then downhill par 4) I decided to try to work the kinks out with the driver. I took the SLDR out with me but had 2 more to try to get back into the bag, the R11 and the SFTP 2.0 v2 LCG. I'd reshafted the LCG with a Black Ops Pearl I had lying around, removing the PXv. After today's round I hit all 3. MURDERED the LCG so looks like next round out, it's going back in the bag.

I am likely purchasing some new irons soon, though, and have been eyeing the G30. Also am highly considering buying a Bennington Q4 bag.

This is the first I've even heard of Bennington golf. I checked out their website. Really nice looking bags.

  2. Loved how you picked your fitter. Spot on about needing someone who matches your personality.

Very well written to. This is textbook odd how a fitting should go.

Who and where was the fitter? I'm sure other members in the area would like to know.

  3. If I'm a betting man, I'm not going to like this club. The sliding weight standard is 20 grams (I thought 16 but the TMag agent I spoke with said it's 20). That's fine and works at the absurd standard length. Problem is I play my driver at 44.5" and need a much lighter weight to get the swing weight correct. Well, after contacting taylormade, I've been told that there's no way to get a replacement weight for fitting purposes.

Awesome... Loft Up...and play it way too long, who cares if it fits? I'm getting more and more turned away from TMag and look forward to Bertha being back.

I know dru had the weight in the weight port removed from his driver

  4. I second the suggestion of Lagavulin 16. Even better, in my opinion, is the Lagavulin 12 cask strength.

Also, if you favor the peaty Islay offerings, try Laphroaig and Ardbeg.

Yeah, my favorite is Laphroaig cask strength. Well worth the price. I'll have to give Lagavulin cask a try.

  5. Too bad you don't live near me. I have 2 bottles of Caol Ila you could have. I really don't like it.

Bunnahabhain 12 is one of my favorites. I also like Glenlivet 12 and most everything Macallan.

I'm not much for the strong smoke taste.

I prefer a cheap single malt such as Glen Parker over most any blended Scotch regardles off the quality of the blend.

Bring it by the Texas Open if you can make it!

Personally I loooove the smokey taste. Like women, I like whiskey with a strong personality that'll occasionally kick my ass.

  6. I've been on a hunt of trying different brands of Scotch for a while now. I've had some talks with Highlander about it, but I figured it was time to bring it out to the open forum.

Just curious what everyone likes for Scotch. For me, I like Scotch like I like my women. Gotta have a strong personality, so Islays are my favorite.

    So far I've tried:

Laphroaig Cask Strength - By far the best I've tried so far. It's got a ton of qualities to it.

Bunnahabhain 12 - Very good sipping whiskey. This is one Highlander got me into.

Macallan Islay - Great cheap Islay. It's my goto for when I just want a glass

    On my list to try:

Caol Ila - I can't find this anywhere

    Ardberg - any of them

Lagavulin 16 - I don't know anything about it, but it's at my local store

I've had plenty of other non Islay whiskeys, but I'm not nearly as passionate about them. Glenlivet 18 is probably the best of these I've ever had, but Laphroaig cask was still better at half the price.

I also have a bottle of Johnny Black and Four Roses cause both make great regular drinking whiskeys.

Most of the time I have it neat with a drop or two of water in all my whiskeys.

My game's improved by leaps and bounds this year, mainly because I've been playing a lot. I have something like 20+ rounds under my belt already.

My swing has gotten a lot better, still not there, but today was my best round yet. On holes 1 and 2, I hit perfect drives, then left my approach way off the green, chipped it, and made long putts for the par save. JBones gave me one of the best tips I've had so far, to hit every shot like a 100 yard wedge, and it's done wonders to both my power and accuracy. I'm getting shots more regularly where I barely feel the ball fly off the face and feel the ground after the ball is in the air.

I somehow hit only 3 greens in regulation (holes 5 and 9), but my putter worked wonders besides hole 3. My only real blip was #8, where I hit my tee shot into the bunker, then pured it out of the sand to the other side of the green, then overshot my chip, and finally two putted. Bleh.

Was a great round, I just need to do that over 18 holes :D

  8. Walked 18 with my 9 year old son yesterday. The kid has stamina :D. He can also flush his driver every time. Once he gets his putting and short game in order he's going to start kicking ass.

First time I've played this course from the blues and shot 90. I couldn't putt or chip for the life of me and definitely left a lot of shots on the table. My scorecard showed 76% of fairways hit and yet only 33% of GIR, bleh. Averaged 2.33 putts per GIR, bleh x2. I blame it on the 20+ mph winds we were having, the gusts were really bad.

Had my first legitimate eagle attempt though. This par 5 plays at first uphill, then downhill. Hit my driver (uphill) a good 270 yards with a little help from the wind, then mishit my second shot, but was just 10 yards short of the green. Unfortunately I couldn't chip in or even chip close, so I took par.

My other shot was a downhill par 3, 200 yards. Wind was to my back and you don't want to go long on this hole. I hit a perfect 6 iron draw that hit short of the green and rolled 10 yards past the hole :D. I missed my birdie putt, but saying I hit a 6i 200+ yards still made my day :D

  9. I'm finally getting more friends playing golf. Last Sunday I played like crap and all my old bad habits returned. However, on the 9th we decided on a small wager, whoever scored the worst had to buy the round, so I flushed a 4i onto the green and two putted for par. The other two guys had to split the round with double bogeys each :D.

  10. I honestly can't believe I was selected, thank you! This is going to be very interesting to see if TM's claims prove true for the 3 wood. Also, the 910h is going to be hard to beat. I'm very excited to be doing this.

Guys, MBP and JBones set a very high bar for us. As has RB7, fsav, and nicsherman with the Carnahan wedge reviews. Also to those picked, don't forget to click the donate button :).

To all the above, please let us know what you would have done different and what you'd like to see.

    Thanks again, can't wait!

  11. If the concern over contest whoring is getting out of hand, there could always be a mandate that equipment be returned to MGS by a certain date so it can be donated to the first tee or some similar program.

I think the point is this shouldn't be viewed as a contest and more as a contract to do a lot of work. I wasn't around for it, but a long time ago MGS sent out a lot of gear and got very little feedback.

That said, I'd be happy to participate in a review where the clubs are returned or forwarded to another member. The only issue here is that some of the testing does involve spending your own cash (i.e. renting a LM a few times can easily run $80). Obviously this doesn't compare to the real cost of the club, but for something you don't keep it'd be hard to persuade reviewers to fork over cash like that.

  12. Great post, Tyk. There is a lot of pressure/expectation that goes along with this. You can't go in just expecting to take a couple pics and say "this clubs awesome". I already respected the MGS staff for what they did, but I gained a lot more respect for them after the RBladez review. There is a lot of work that goes into, if you're going to do it justice.

+10. I didn't measure how long it took because it was pretty spread out, but it was a lot of work and I still walked away feeling it wasn't as good as what the MGS staff produce. They don't get nearly enough props for what they do (and I'm not saying this to be a suckup. I'll be pretty happy if TM just chooses "better players" for this round since that's where their claims about +10 yards come from)

  13. +10 (brings the total to +30 I think...rolleyes.gif)

and it works... Just look at the views on this thread (pushing 4,000) and pushing 40,000 on the bladez reviews. It's great for the site, and i'm sure TM gets more than their money's worth out of the equipment given.

In fairness to TM, never once did they contact us in any way for the RBladez reviews and thus in no way can they be accused of attempting to coerce the results.

I'm curious what shaft make RP was talking about, though I've heard of this happening and will say I've lost all respect for said company.
