  1. Just got my Sub70 JB wedges in! These are awesome! I can’t wait to try them on the course. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  2. With December now in the books I was able to get a little more practice in. I hit over 1900 balls, made 1570 of 1580 5' putts and was able to start getting back into shape. I expect January to be very similar. I have hit over 3900 balls so far this winter and over 2100 putts. I will be very interested in seeing how the game comes out of the winter. I should be able to play a round or two in Feb if not more than that.
  3. When the game is headed south do not say a word unless they ask. Best to just stay quiet and let them figure it out. Maybe chuckle if they have a good club throw or two.
  4. Once again here we are getting ready for another season of tournament golf. 2020 was a challenging year but we did come away with four wins and a top 10 in the Illinois State Mid-Amateur. I am looking forward to a few more events in 2021 and hopefully a few more wins! Schedule so far: Date Tournament Location Holes Score Feb 15 April 29 Gasparilla Invitational Qualifier CDGA Mid-Amateur Qualifier Tampa, FL Kankakee Elks 18 18 78 (+6) 74 (+2) *T-8 May 3 US Open Qualifying Country Club of Indianapolis 18 78 (+6) May 17-19 CDGA Mid-Amateur Championship Lake Shore CC 18-MP 71 (E) T-9 Lost 1st round of MP June 5-6 Naughton Open Lake of the Woods 36 77 - 77 (+10) June 17 Illinois State Amateur Qualifying U of I Orange Course 18 76 (+4) DNQ June 19-20 U of I Open U or I Orange Course 36 69 - 69 (-6) 1st July 7 US Amateur Qualifying Weibring Golf Club @ ISU 36 68 -76 (+2) DNQ T-11 July 24-25 Twin Cities Championship U of I & Lincolnshire 54 72-79-74 (+11) 7th Aug 4-8 SWNY-NWPA Men's Amateur Bartlet CC 18-MP 74 (+4) Lost in QtF Aug 23-24 Illinois State Mid-Amateur Championship Bloomington CC 54 72-79-72 (+10) T-22 Oct 9-10 UCC Club Championship Urbana CC 36 Oct 19 USGA Four Ball Qualifying Prairie View GC 18 As with 2020 this is subject to change, but these are in the plans as of right now. 5. Studies have shown that for amateurs distance is key to lower scores. Yes putting matters, but right now distance is king. I saw from some good sources on twitter the other day that hitting the ball 350 yards is better for your scoring than having every 12' and in putt be a gimmie. That was even for tour pros, so if I am doing anything it is getting longer. I have the super speed sticks and just purchased the Super Speed C Counterweight club to add in this winter.
  6. One month in the books. I know I said full on Bryson would be nice, well a trip to the Dr. for a physical and that will not be happening. Good news is I am down 8 lbs. Now with my job I travel a lot and it is impossible to practice every day. But I was able to get some really good days in and workout almost every day. In November I was able to hit 1390 quality practice shots in the garage and hit almost 1000 5' putts. I hope December lets me practice a little more but I am on the road for work 10 of the next 12 days and then hopefully done for the year.
  7. As the weather gets colder here in the Midwest I know most of us are looking for the next warm day to golf and some of the members hear have already moved to indoors. I wanted to share my goals for the winter season to come out playing my best next spring. I am fortunate enough, one to work from home normally and two, have an indoor space to hit balls and practice putting. Over the next 151 days (April 1, 2021) my goal is to hit 10,000 quality practice shots anywhere from 50 yards to 215 yards LW through 5 iron. And make 10,000 5 foot putts. This averages out to 67 shots a day and 67 putts a day. Some days I should be able to do this easily. Some days I will not be able to do any. It will be interesting to see how close we get to the 10,000 goal, and to see if they can all be quality shots, not just swinging to swing. I do plan to pick back up with the superspeed sticks again after the new year as I do not want to get into everything at once and over use my body. It would be nice to go full on Bryson, but that is not the level I am at.
  8. How many of us will be playing winter golf and be able to use this watch all winter? I know I will probably get a couple of rounds in between now and March, but no more than 10.
  9. Well the 2020 competitive golf season has come to a close here in Illinois for me. I paired up with a good friend to play in a 2 man better ball event this weekend and we had a great weekend. We shot 64 - 64 = 128 (-16) to win by two shots. We both played well at different times which is key in these events. I finished the weekend with 9 birdies and an eagle. Not a bad showing at all. It was really nice to get this team win and finish off 2020 on a good note. The season was for sure a weird one as to where and what to play. But we had one of the best years in terms of finishes. I ended up having 4 wins, 2 seconds and my worst finish was 10th (twice). The one being a T-10 in the Illinois State Mid-Amateur which makes me exempt for next years event! I am looking forward to playing more golf in 2021 and hopefully starting the season in Florida in February. I will be sure to do this again next year and that you all for following along. If you ever have questions or know of events let me know!
  10. I was able to break away this last weekend and go play in a two day event over in Lebanon, IN. The first day we played the Golf Club of Indiana and the final round was at The Trophy Club. I had never played either course, and let me tell you I would go play either one again. I had been hitting the ball decent the last month and the game traveled well with me to Indiana. I was able to shoot -1 (71) & -1 (71) = -2 (142) and come away with another victory in 2020. That makes four in the season shortened by Covid. I have another 2 man event in two weeks and that should finish out the year. I will do a full recap with stats on the year once that is finished. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  11. I will say that after this weekend of golfing I really do like the watch, but I do not know how accurate it is. Multiple times when I would laser a flag the yardage to the green would be way off (by 10 or more yards). I will try to get some photos of when this happens (hard to remember sometimes when playing). Everything else about the watch is great. Played 36 Friday, 27 Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Battery was almost gone on Friday after two rounds, but I charged the watch that night and it was ready to go Saturday morning. There are a ton of features on this watch and I feel it needs to be a little faster in response. I am a fast player, and I do not like waiting for the watch to catch up.
  12. Sorry I have been MIA. I have played 36 holes with my watch and it died sometime after the 36th hole. I do notice that it takes a little longer for it to get yardages especially if I am riding vs. walking. I will laser the flag and then look to see front and back and sometime it takes a few seconds for the watch to catch up. I also think the screen resolution setting has a lot to do with the battery life. Try adjusting that down and see if it helps at all. I will be playing (hopefully) 90 holes from Thursday to Sunday this week so we will see how the watch holds up. I really like how easy it is to get to the courses and syncing the watch has not been an issue either.
  13. I am going to get a couple more rounds in this weekend with the watch. A course I have not played all year so hopefully the watch is on point. Can cut some corners
  14. I will be playing the next two evenings. I will try to get some more photos of the watch. Is there anything anyone wants to see about it?
  15. Monday and Tuesday were the Illinois State Mid-Amateur this year. It was held at Edgewood Valley CC in the Chicago area. I had never seen this course until a practice round on Sunday afternoon and I was glad I played it. The golf course was not overly long but the greens were as firm and fast as I have played in a very long time. I had a 7:39 tee time off of the 10th tee on Monday morning for the first round. I got off to a slow start being +2 through 4 holes but did not get upset with the start knowing I had some holes I could make birdie on coming up. I was able to get it back to even par through 10 and then stumbled coming into the club house after the first round and finished at +3 (75). Side note this event had live scoring so that was really nice as I looked at the scores and saw I was T-15 after the first round. Solidly inside the cut line. My second round started on number 1 and I was able to get off to a better start being -1 through 5. Things took a turn on the 7th hole (This hole did not fit my eye) and I made my second double bogey of the day on this hole to fall to +4 for the day. It was a really poor double bogey and that got me off my mental game for a few holes. I made a few more mistakes and after the 13th hole I was +7 and decided to look at the cut line. I saw it was at +8 and if I could finish well I would be right where I wanted going into the final day. Birdies on 16 and 17 got me to +2 for the round and +5 for the 2 rounds T-7th going into the final day. There were only 4 scores lower than the afternoon 74 so I was pleased with that scoring. Yesterday the final round. I was a ways back from the lead at +5, and told myself that I was not going to look at the leader board unless I got it to -2 or -3 on the round. I should have been watching all day. I was +1 through 12 holes and probably in 3rd or 4th place at that time. If I would have looked I would have seen that the course again was playing very tough. But I didn't look until the 14th hole when I was at +8 and still T-7 . I couldn't get the game to come alive coming in and made 2 more bogies and finished the tournament at +10, T-10th place. Not a bad finish in this event by any means. I am exempt from qualifying for this event next year so that is a nice prize. I am upset at how I let my mind dictate the round and not my game. I was playing well, scoring well, the course average was 77.62 for the 3 rounds. I was under that every round. And these are the best golfers in the state. That should show how hard this course was playing. I am looking forward to the next year as I plan to work on my body and my swing. No club changes in the future and hopefully an even better 2021.
  16. I was able to play 54 holes the last 2 days with the watch. Monday I was able to get 36 holes out of the watch. On my 51st hole it flashed the low battery but it was able to finish the round and died after the round when I was getting a drink. I have not worn a watch for a few years and I really like how this feels on my wrist. My initial thought was it felt heavy. But when it is on my wrist it feels very light and I do not notice it. My only error, and this is user error is that I had it set up to receive notifications. Lucky it never buzzed in my back swing. Yesterday was only 18 holes but again the watch worked great. It is easy to see, easy to keep score if you want and I need to utilize all the functionality of the watch. Especially in tournament play when it is slow I feel I could get more information and that is always helpful. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  17. Playing 36 tomorrow with the watch. We will see if it can go all day. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  18. I got to play a round of golf yesterday with the watch. I can say it has a lot of features. It did take it a while to find my course (3rd hole) but after that it worked very well. I will get more in depth as I am playing the next 4 days. Taking today off as work got crazy.
  19. Got my watch today! It’s going to be a busy week. 7 rounds in my next 6 days. This watch will be put to the test! Also want to give a shoutout to SkyCaddie. I guess I had 3 accounts. One for an older watch, one for my Skytrak and this new one. I now have them all in one place and if your on the Skytrak / SkyCaddie platform give me a follow. JoshAndersonGolf. Customer service online chat was great! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  20. Well its time for another update. Since I last updated I have played in 3 events. The first one was a Golfweek Am Tour event at Purdue. I had never played these courses before and going in blind is always fun. The first round I started off well and was -4 through 12 holes. I made a few mistakes coming in but was able to get it in the house at 71 (-1). The second day I again started well and was -2 through 5 but again stumbled and ended up at even for the day and one under for the tournament. 71 - 72 = 143 (-1) and that was good enough to get the win for that weekend! The next event I played was a match play event. Qualified on Wednesday August 5th with a round of 74, not my best effort, and lost the next day in the first round. That dropped me into a loser bracket and I played all the way till Saturday and lost in the Semi Finals 2&1. I always have loved this event because it is match play and there are very few of these events left. And finally on Tuesday August 11th I had a qualifier for the Illinois State Mid Amateur Championship. Unlike the other events, I started off very poor. I was +3 through 7 and made the turn at +4. That number was never going to get me in. I thought maybe +2 would, so I knew I had to play well on the back. I started with birdies on 10 & 11 to get it back to +2. I got an update from an official that it looked like the number was going to be even par. I still need 2 more coming in. Well the game was there and I made birdies on 14 & 17 to get it back to even par and qualify on the number. 40 - 32 = 72 (even par). That is now my next event on August 24th & 25th. I finished T-22 in the state mid am last year and I hope to improve on that this year!
  21. No this is an old watch I brought back out just to see how it still worked.
  22. I agree with @TCUFrog. It will be nice to get the yardages to other objects that can't get with a laser. The watch this weekend gave that information, but there was a lot of glare.
