    So I put these HVC-L balls into play today during my round and they honestly performed about as expected. They showed no ill effects of their long shelf life but they also didn't wow me with their performance in terms of feel or spin. Since I was playing with my son (age 14) and my father-in-law (age 70+), I thought I'd get them in on the act so I gave them a sleeve. Pops even read the description on the sleeve of balls and said "This sounds perfect for me!" This was a new course to all of us and wouldn't you know, we all found the water on the par 5 first hole!     Great attention span for a 4-year old to want to play 18 holes! When my oldest son started playing, we did the 100/150 yard thing to teach him the importance of short game if he wanted to score well. Enjoy those basement times/practice sessions as well as the course- before you know it he'll be 14 and out-driving you!!

    As I reviewed the specs on my irons, I definitely see the stronger lofts you mentioned in the PW and GW. If I only have a 60* wedge in my bag for sand/rough shots, that leaves a 10 degree gap.

    It was great to see Brandt Snedeker back out playing so well this week after long injury. I was wondering if anybody knew what putter he plays?     I'm curious about advantages/disadvantages to playing the wedges that come with your iron set. I've never invested in a separate PW or GW, just always used the one included in my iron set. I've noticed that Cleveland CBX (and possibly others I'm not aware of) are individual wedges targeted toward the guys that play cavity back irons. Am I missing out on an opportunity to save strokes or just stick with the forgiveness built into my cavity back iron set?

    Auburn definitely gets in if they beat Bama & UGA again in champ game. Love the fact that rest of SEC is closing talent gap on Bama. LSU and Mstate more than held their own on line, outrushing Bama. Auburn and maybe UGA have QB play to challenge Bama for SEC/playoff spot.     Curious about your experience with the Ping and the Evnroll putters in terms of feel off the face- both have caught my eye due to the MGS reviews in the past. Do they ever seem cumbersome (accidentally drag it on ground during long putts?). Just read your review of the ER6. I've used both mallets and blade putters in the past but I'm not a huge fan of the insert in my current putter.

    So I started with comparison testing today : HVC-L ball vs Velocity ball vs DT Carry ball. Began with the flat stick to determine feel and then hit some chip shots in the yard. This may not matter to most people but the HVC-L ball does not have a pronounced alignment aid like the newer models. The DT Carry was my least favorite in feel, felt like a rock. The dimple pattern was different on the HVC-L and I wasn't rolling it quite as well as the Velocity. Winner on putting feel: Velocity Hit several chip shots with a gap wedge and once again the DT Carry was my least favorite. The Velo

    I've certainly received some of those type gifts in the past- easier to respond with grace when it comes from a child. Yes, I think I'll give them a try and compare to modern 2-piece distance balls.

    So I received an interesting gift from one of the kids at school - very thoughtful because they obviously know that I love golf. Does anybody recognize this model of Titleist golf balls? Dozen balls, still in shrink wrap, should I put them in play? Do they lose their pop over time? Last thing I want to do is damage driver as weather gets colder.
