  1. I am thinking after one range session that it was a waste of money for me. Any shot I would need it for I can hit with a 58* wedge. I do like the 58* version but it is going to take some getting used to.

It took some time for me to get use to. It's my go-to club for greenside bunker shots. Our greens are fast with a lot of "bad miss" areas around them. I'm awesome at missing in those spots and short siding myself. For me it just makes sense. My longest iron is my 5 at 25° so I have no reason to carry two hyrbids. At the same time, I'm sure I miss a lot more greens than you so that probably plays into it as well.

  2. Went for my driver fitting today. Ended up with the Ping G SF Tec in 10° with an Aldila RIP'd NV 65 stiff at 1/2 inch short.

Inside on Trackman I was carrying my G25 around 250 on average. The G was coming in at 264 average carry. Hit about 30 balls outside. Same results. I normally carry driver to the base of the trees at the end of the range. New driver was carrying 1/3 to halfway up said trees. Solid high draws but not overdone which I was worried about with the SF Tec. If I can have one side of the course eliminated this could be a good year.

I'm in love. Hopefully the honeymoon lasts.

  3. Just got this email from Carbon Putters:

"Thank you for your order of a Carbon Ringo ¼. Carbon Putters is very honored and humbled by the 1st place award of MyGolfSpy's Most Wanted 2015 Blade Putter. Due to the overwhelming response to this award, our inventory of the Ringo ¼ is currently too low to fulfill all of the orders we have received. We are an up and coming putter manufacturer and are taking every step possible to get your putter in your hands as soon as possible, with the tightest specifications possible.

We are committed to keeping you informed with the progress of your order. We are working day and night milling the Ringo 1/4 models, right here in our shop just south of Denver, Colorado. At this moment, our best assessment is we will be able to fulfill your order in 2 to 3 weeks.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding. We are excited to get a Carbon in your bag!"

Pretty cool. Looking forward to getting it.

  4. Found a mint set of used MP-54s at Golfsmith yesterday, 5-PW, with XP105 R300 and new mid-size New Decade grips. Hit the 5i on the simulator, rolled out over 180. Hit a draw, then a fade, then I bought 'em.

Took 'em out today. What feel! Mishit one 8i, but one par 3, hit a draw 8i to the stick, 10 ft over the flag: birdie. Another par 3, 6i soft draw 160 yards to 12 ft, but missed the putt.

Still getting the distances down. These are all 2* more loft than my other sets, but I love 'em.

    Love those irons.

  5. Cold 44* for 20 of us this morning at The Babe. Shot a 47/42=89. The first 5 holes I could not focus on the ball. My eyes were watering and it was like I was looking through an aquarium to see the ball. That finally cleared up and I finished with an almost chip in birdie, in other words, a tap in par. But it was fun, and warmed up to 61*.

Your "cold" 44° is a "warm" 44° to me lol

  6. Shot a 5-over 78 today. Irons are still suspect but I think they're coming around. Short game is really coming together and kept me in it today. Easily could have shot an 85 or worse the way I was striking the ball. Holed a bunker shot on #2 for a birdie and chipped in on #14 for another one.

  7. Played horribly yesterday. Things have been hectic in December so it's only the second time touching a club. It's amazing how quickly I can lose my touch around the greens. Regardless, playing on December 21st with the ground not frozen is a bonus that I'm thankful for.

  8. Shot a 79 yesterday. I was one over on the front through 6. Poor club choices on 7 and 9 put me in "bad miss" areas which led to bogeys. On the back I was even through 15. Made a bogey on 16 due to a poor drive. Par 5 17th I had a 6 iron in for my second. Blocked it into the left greenside bunker then somehow shanked the bunker shot into the back greenside bunker. Got out and 2 putted for a bogey. Definitely had the potential to be my best round to date. Our team swept the other 3 foursomes with scores of 77, 79, 82, 82 and won $72 so it was a great day overall.

Playing again today so maybe today will be the day.

  9. Teed off at 9am yesterday morning. Temperature was a cool 35°. Played by myself and walked. Definitely helped keep me warm. Played pretty solid, I was 3 over through 14.

My buddy called me at that point wanting to play so I went back to #1 to play 9. Somewhere along the way from the #15 tee box to the #1 tee box any remote form of golf skill that I thought I had totally vanished. Played the front 9 somewhere around 10 or 12 over. Should've just finished my round and went home.

First time walking by myself. Had no one in front of me and I have to say it was really peaceful and relaxing.

  10. Shot an 82 today. Still struggling with poor ball striking. Scrambled my butt off and putted well which kept it from getting out of hand.

Thought I made good progress at the range yesterday. My buddy/coach watched me stripe balls for about 10 minutes yesterday. He says there's nothing to change and that when I get on the course I need to just not care about where the ball goes and make free swings like I do at the range. Easier said than done it seems but I know he's right.

  11. Took a spur of the moment trip to Myrtle Beach last Thursday and came back Monday for my buddy's birthday. Had a great time even though the courses we played Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were soaked. Friday we played at TPC, Saturday was King's North, Sunday was Long Bay, and Monday was Grande Dunes. Really enjoyed all four courses although Grande Dunes was pretty dry and was probably my favorite of the bunch. Long Bay was my least favorite although I always tend to struggle on unfamiliar Jack Nicklaus courses. I felt like I played horrible but managed 80s all four days at sea level in soaking wet conditions from 6800-7100 yards. I think I got the yips with my irons and wedges halfway through the trip. Maybe due to the super wet conditions? Hopefully a few buckets at the range tomorrow will work it out.

We did play Grande Dunes from 7100 yards and it was a little wet. I felt like it was playable for me. Most approach shots between 130-180 yards. Par 3s were 180-210. Really cool golf course and a good experience since I've never played one that long. The tips were 7500 and I have no idea whatsoever how anyone could play them under par.

  12. Being an official single digit now, I got to move back to the blue tees in our Wednesday game. I felt like I played really well. My shots from 125 yards and in were on point. Which I'm happy about since that's where I've spent all my practice time lately. I had 9 birdie putts from 10 feet and in and couldn't hole anything. Finished with 2 birds. Fortunately one of them I hit to an inch and didn't have a chance to miss the putt. Didn't keep track but had at least 40 putts.

I do have plans for a putting green in the room above my garage this month so hopefully I'll make some strides there this winter. Once that project gets going it'll have it's own thread.
