The Ledges GC is my home course and I play it all the time, but the views still blow me away.

 

This is a look back down the 18th at sunset today.

Whenever Sand Hollow Resort is brought up, people only talk about the Championship course. Well if you play out there you better get over to the Links Course because it is just as awesome. It's my favorite place to play in St George.

I was 280yd out on a par five. It was down hill down wind and took driver off the deck. Put it green side and got up and down for birdie.

I snuck in a quick round at South Mountain while I was in SLC,UT. Very well designed course. Between design and 30mph winds, I sucked. But at least I had this view.

56 and lost by 6?

 

Sounds like there was a bit of going on.

Well you could buy mulligans, and they had some players on their team. Gipper Finau was on the team, a guy who just got done playing at BYU and two other guys that are known local players. So there might have been some BS going on but they probably did shoot that. That and the course was short for THEM, not so much me.

[How'd you play?]

Played in a four man scramble today. We shot 56 and lost by 6. I know that's not uncommon but man it still sucks to lose by that much when we played well for the team we had. Nonetheless it was first tournament in over a year and it felt good.

I played my first round in four months today....long story short, I got pissed off in March and needed to take a break. Went out on the course with zero expectations today and shot a 77. Maybe I'll pick up the game again. Or maybe I'll just take another break so I can keep shooting low scores. The thing I find most interesting is I took out the oldest set I own (original Ping Karsten ll's) and hit the piss out of the ball.

[Hardest Course You've Ever Played (in the U.S.)]

I've played both of those. I think Wolf was far tougher. At least the day I played it. Super windy and not a flat fairway to be found.

Not a flat anything out there! You're either hitting to an elevated fairway/green or the fairway is 50 yards below the tee box. Most unreal course I have ever played. But I've played there quite a bit so I think I'm a little numb to the difficulty.

[Hardest Course You've Ever Played (in the U.S.)]

The two toughest for me are PGA West Stadium Course and Wolf Creek in Mesquite, NV. I shot 94 from the tips and PGA West. I only missed 4 fairways but had 39 putts and who knows how many chips...Best score I've ever carded at Wolf Creek is an 84 from the tips and I'll take that. Not a long course at all, just impossible to play.

I played like absolute garbage and PGA West kicked my @ss. But it was an awesome experience. I can't complain at all. I haven't played a course that the pros play on and it opened my eyes a little more to how good they really are. I found myself in a lot of trouble far too often.

[How'd you play?]

You could say it got a little windy today on the course. Putting was a nightmare. You didn't need to read the green just the wind. Down hill and down wind on a hole and hit a 230 yard 9 iron. Felt like DJ out there until I turned around into the wind and hit a 5 iron from 128. I had to take driver off the deck a couple times which is always fun. I went out expecting to be miserable and ended up having fun.

So I just got back from a trip to Cali. I had never been west of Vegas and quite frankly never got why people loved LA so much. That was all before this trip as I was blessed to be able to play out at Pete Dye's stadium course at PGA West. I understand now....

[What do you do for a living?]

I'm 27, been married for 4 years and have 2 kids. I work as a medical assistant for a family doctor and am just about to start nursing school. I've been going to school for far too long and still have too much to do. That's what happens when you have no idea what you want to do.

[How'd you play?]

We were in San Diego for New Years and I was able to sneak in a quick nine this morning before we left. I played Riverwalk GC. Pretty fun little course and it's always nice to play something other than a desert course like at home. I hit the ball a lot better than expected since I haven't played in a few weeks and ended up shooting 39. Here's to a better year I suppose.

Why I love November golf in Southern Utah; 65*, sunny, and nobody plays the courses I like to play this time of year so I have the course to myself. Only thing that could get better is my golf game, which is unfortunate cuz that isn't happening I couldn't get any putts to fall today and ended up shooting 82.

[How'd you play?]

I haven't played in three weeks so the short game was gone, I don't think it even left the garage this morning. But my ball striking was, some how, on point. I only played nine holes but I played two balls, shooting a 42 and 43. I can't complain seeing as I don't get to play as much as I used to. Also the course was in great shape and this is the best time of year for weather here.

[How'd you play?]

I finally got out and played a little bit this weekend. I couldn't hit an iron to save my life. Went to the range afterwards and made some adjustments and got it figured out. My son had the shot of the day. He's almost three so I usually tee it up for him by where they put the cart signs for the greens, just about 20 to 30 yards from the green depending on the hole. After about 8 "practice swings" he put it to 15 feet. Six putts later he was in with a triple bogey It was a great day all around.

Getting a new job outside of the golf industry has definitely hurt my golf game. I'm not playing nearly as much. I did get out this weekend and shot 42/41. That's about all I can expect now that I don't practice and only get out once a week if I'm lucky. Here's to a higher handicap

Been away for work most of the last several days and while I did not get to play I did win a putting contest at the center bar in my company's casino in the Bahamas. Granted it was 4 am and there may or may not have been tequilla involved, but there was a nice pile of cash involved that my wife has already claimed. Even managed to get an invite to Abaco to play golf with some staff of the PM of the Bahamas.

Someone needs to write book on your life...so much excitement and travel. I enjoy checking in on this thread for that reason.

[How'd you play?]

I got out this afternoon for a fun round with my son. We were the only ones on the course (my car temp said it was 108). I tried something I hadn't done before, I would hit three different types of shots into the green. It was really good for me to get that kind of practice in, plus it was kinda windy so I had that to work with as well. My son got some pretty good swings in as well. He's almost three and he accidentally knocked in a 30 footer. He was just trying to hit his ball towards me and it went in the cup. Both of us were pretty stoked. All in all it was a good time.

I finally got out and played a round this morning. The front nine was a little rough to me. Actually I was rough to it. Just couldn't get things going. I got things turned around on the back nine and ended with a 41-36 for a +5 77. My ball striking hasn't been as good lately but the short game is dialed in, which I'll take any day of the week. Here are some pics. If you're ever in Southern Utah, make sure you stop and play Sky Mountain. The views are hard to beat!

So about a month ago we put our house on the market and we accepted a full price offer that day. Since then life has been crazy and not a lot of time for golf. Between finding a new house and remodeling it to get it back to "livable standards" I had time to sneak 18 in. Apparently the time off was just what I needed, shot a +2, 74. I haven't played like that since before my knee surgery last summer. The highlight of the round was on a short (285yd) par 4, I put a 3 wood to about six feet and made the putt. I'm looking forward to getting my life back and playing more golf. Unfortunately I don't think I'll have too many more round like that.

A beautiful day nearly ruined by a round of golf. By far the most peculiar round I've ever had. 51 on the front and even on the back. Don't know what else to say except that I hope that never happens again...
