  1. I know what you mean about living vicariously through everyone elses posts Rev. Still struggling with my back and haven't been playing much and being in constant pain even has had me not posting much and just reading and chuckling at the some of the misadventures Yes you lot are being monitored by the golf tragic on the couch Good luck on the weekend mate!
  2. Had a reasonable round today. I've been hammering the pro shop demo Gmax irons just about every round I play lately if they are available. The pro doesn't mind and I will be getting a set so why the hell not. I shot 82 with the daily scratch rating of 73 and that made my sloped score an 81 and the handicapper hammered me and I'm back to 8.2. Steady as she goes said the skipper and the index is back on its way down Played with a 5 marker who was asking questions about the graphite shafts and after watching me smash shots all day ie a 6 iron as opposed to his 3 hybrid. I think he's sold on the idea of getting a set with graphite shafts. I did tell him the heads make a big difference but people only seem to hear what they want to hear. It was a bit like "ugg, graphite, further, good." I managed to come in 4th out of 70 players in the competition with 35 stableford points, 39 won it.
  3. I'd rather be a scratch amateur I think. No actually I'd rather be a +4 amateur. I don't think Tiger is a particularly happy person at the moment. For all his riches and past glories he just looks plain miserable and has us plebs writing in a golf forum answering a question if we'd like to be in his shoes.
  4. The best part of my game yesterday was saucing it up. Hit some well good drives that got punished and let go of the club at the top dropping it just behind me, talkedto the ball like it had ears on it but it didn't listen and did the Jack Nicklaus putter raise as the ball rolled in the hole for some great par saves. Finished 3 over my index so all was not lost.
  5. Jack Nicklaus used the inter locking grip he said because he had smaller hands than most. I found when I was learning the game that just about every grip I used felt weird and it wasn't until I persevered with one that it eventually felt "normal". And by persevering it took about 3 or 4 months. If I have learned anything about golf though there's as many different ways of doing things as there are people playing the game
  6. No Brainer for me. I would love to be the best, but am pretty happy with my game as it is with all it's faults and good bits so I'd keep what have and play for as long as I could. I love the game too much to give it up after ten years.

  8. Thinking about you Rev, that's a bit scary mate! Have a talk to the big guy and tell him it's way too early as there's more golf to be played!
  9. Ah JMike it's good to see even the Demi Gods of this forum are still subject to their human side.
  10. You are such a tight arse JMike $1800 is such a bargain........NOT!
  11. Payed the 1st round of my Club champs on Wednesday with a dodgy back. Every swing was a compensation and it was a 50/50 proposition as to where it went. Shot 90 for a net 82 which is crap but not bad when I consider the amount of pain I was in. It makes me appreciate what it's like to be relatively pain free when my back is good. I'm hoping for a recovery by next Wednesday and some redemption, feel like crap as it stands
  12. Good to see you again High Fade, you must really love that job, haven't seen you for ages. I played like crap today. Tweaked my back whilst sitting at the computer this morning, don't know exactlty what I did but it was painful. Headed out to the course thinking playing through it would loosen it all up - wrong! Was great off the tee but kept standing up on my irons. My brain trying to protect my back I think. The irony was it felt better if I forced myself to stay down but of course focussing when I'm in pain is difficult. Make that focussing in general is just difficult. (well that's what you were thinking) I hit enough good shots to bring myself back tomorrow for the Championships but I seriously hope my back is somewhat better.
  13. Hey Foz I finally got to see your bag. For some reason the picture wouldn't load in my browser and now that I have windows 10 abracadabra its there! Nice one man I liiiiike it!
  14. I like the idea of having a trade option - would it not work if you put it in the normal classifieds and just added willing to trade for or willing to trade for ****** of equal value or some such. I'm a long way away of course but it wouldn't phase me if I had to ship or whatever. Just saying.
  15. Sounds to me that the Rev and Foz need to redirect some of that rain to California where the drought is. We've had a bit of precipitation here as well and I had a sleep in on Friday when I woke up at 6am and heard it bucketing down only to find out that my buddies who were obviously more hard core than me went out and only had a small shower. To be honest though 3 months straight of playing 6 days a week catches up with me now I'm a bit older. I felt bone weary this weekend but am looking forward to going out again tommorrow after a couple of days off. Also reducing the playing schedule to 4 days a week + practise should help
  16. I can't believe what a club ho I am. A putter caught my eye today at the muni we were playing, it is a Mizuno (what else?)MP A 308 with a milled face that felt absolutely gorgeous and putted beautifully on the carpet. so what is a club ho to do except buy it. In my defence I have to say that Mizuno make such quality gear it is hard to resist so I didn't.
  17. I hit my irons well all day, struggled off the tee with driver and for the most part did all the damage to my score with that club, sprayed it to all points of the compass. The greens were absolute crap. The course was water logged and the greens were soggy and soft and slow making putting hard. I made two great back to back birdies on the back nine that again rescued my back nine score, with one of them being a smoked 5 iron that finished 2 foot behind the hole on a 180 yard par 3. Finished with an 84 that could have been so much better if my driver had of cooperated.
  18. Had a really good time today out on the course. Was playing with my good buddy who is a 3 marker and another guy, one of the young tyro's of the club off 4. Felt funny being the hacker off 8. There was plenty of good natured sledging and carry on. Shot 83 and lost a dollar, but made a nice birdie on 16 that rescued my back nine score. Consistency my kingdom for some consistency like Mr Brodeur above.
  19. As well as I played the other day I played equally badly today. We play a lot of Stableford competitions here in Australia, in fact it is the preferred competition format over here. I think the reason for that is the ability to pick your ball up and keep moving once you can't score any points on any given hole you are playing. I had four of those today - I call 'em swipo wipo's. They hurt but at least when you know you aren't going to have a great score you can have some fun experimenting with different shots and strategies. Felt like I did that a lot today and actually wound up hitting some really cracking shots. Some really crap ones too though. The best part of the day came when I finished the last hole I made birdie so I am playing tomorrow with that fresh in my mind
  20. Today I played quite well. Shot a 78 for a net 70 and won the Veterans Friday Competition at my club which was a $50 voucher that paid a chunk off the shafts I put in my Mizzy gamers. Took money off everyone in the side bets but all that aside I actually felt like a golfer, the highlight came on 17 where I drove it into the fairway bunker about 250 yards. It was a great drive just blocked it a little and had 119 yards to the flag. I nipped a pitching wedge nice and cleanly out of the bunker and put it ten feet past the pin and poured the putt in for birdie. Parred the 18th and shot 36 on the back nine. 42 on the front could have been so much better but hey I'm a chopper. Happy, happy day
  21. Jmike I bow to your superior buying impulse dude, that is the most awesome collection of putters I have seen. I tend to trade in my discards that tends to keep the missus guessing. Apart from the Mizuno putter I talked about in another thread I'm chasing a Wilson 8802 or the black 8882. I don't want a new one second hand will do so if anyone knows of one going for a good price let me know.
  22. 83 is pretty good though Foz, certainly one of your better rounds from memory. Well done! Musta been hitting that driver pretty good.
  23. I'm typing very quietly so the golf Gods don't hear me bragging about how good I played today. I shot a 78 won the Pro shop competition, won the high stakes dollar, dollar, dollar, game and a five dollar side bet with a mate so I cleaned up. My driver was back and my irons were sublime. I even putted half decently. So that's one in a row, and I'm back!
  24. I can relate wbealsd I used to feel the same way and still do at times, not nearly as bad as I used to though
  25. Good job Kenny sounds very nostalgic. I'm having two days off to try and break this funk I'm in. Some things gotta give or I'm going to go nuts.
