  1. Felt like I played better today than yesterday but had the same score. Hit my driver and 3 wood much better and have been working on an 8 iron chip shot around the greens that saved me a heap of shots today including a birdie on #15 that I chipped about 4 ft onto the green and it duly ran up the slope while taking the right to left break and fell into the middle of the cup. Earned me a brand new Titleist which of course makes you want to come out and do it all again. I've got to learn the old adage not to be so greedy when a bogey is better than a double and so on and hitting a 4 iron down the fairway is better than hitting a 3 wood into the bush, greedy, greedy, greedy
  2. Six and a half hours is crazy Jmike. Kudos for your patience. Think I would have walked off after 5 hours. Good round though and as you say probably should have been a 73...
  3. Had a half decent round today - shot 82. I say half decent because it was 4 of the last 5 holes that I screwed up today. I should have shot a 77 but didn't and the thing that pisses me off is I know exactly why I screwed them up and could feel myself doing what I was doing and did it anyway. One of them was not marking my ball and stepping away and regathering after the first putt. My head was screaming "mark it STUPID!" the other part of my head was saying "shut up dick head I can do this!" as I watched it horse shoe out of the hole. On the plus side though it was fun reviewing the JPX ball
  4. JMike I can only dream of playing that well on a course like that. Have you ever had a round at Beth Page Black. I rip it up on the X Box so it would be interesting to hear from someone who has been there and done that!
  5. I think if my game was represented on a graph it would look like some crazy stock that was up and down in value with crazy peaks and deep troughs. What does one have to do to shoot some consistent numbers that are pleasing to look at. I think it suffers from multiple personality disorder and none of them are what you might call good. I managed to rescue todays round shooting 86 when it looked more like it was going to be 90 something. The back nine thankfully was what saved me and I hit some great shots and made some clutch pars on difficult holes too. Ahhh for some consistency...please
  6. Yes, Foz, a tale of two days! Went out today in the rain and wind and shot 78 net 70 in my Army Golf Club comp today and came fourth. Hit my irons so pure including one that was almost a career best it felt so good. It was a 180 yard cut up 4 iron that finished 10 foot from the pin on an uphill, up wind par 3. So good I was quivering till I missed the birdie putt Such a crazy game we play. Hope your game came/comes good too.
  7. Had one of those days today. 7 over my index on the first nine and one under on the second. Talk about a tale of two nines at least I finished fairly strongly and that will bring me back tomorrow.
  8. Well done Foz some solid golf there and 3rd out of 50 odd players is pretty handy too. I managed a second out of 30 today with a 81/36 stableford points. Which is basically to my daily handicap of 9. I missed some short putts (one a 3ft birdie on 17 after hitting the sweetest 8 iron in from 144yards) I should have made and that cost me a sub 80 round which is pretty frustrating. My irons were much better today and that to was something to be happy about.
  9. That's typical! I should say it won't let me copy and paste text for some reason
  10. Hi Kev, seems to me what you are talking about is forearm rotation as well as wrist pronation. Hogan talked about pronation and supination in his book and teaching. From my point of view the pro's do it better and more efficiently than we amateurs hence their different game. I know when I get it right my swing and the moves I make are much more efficient and I hit the ball better with way less effort sometimes up to a club difference in distance. I have found that there seems to be a big reluctance on the part of teaching pros to talk about forearm rotation for some reason even when asked direct questions about it they seem to run for cover as if you just asked if they are having sexual relations with their sister. Very bizarre. I have been working on forearm rotation myself of late because in the past I have tried to limit the amount of FR because of what I had read about the evils of rotating the club face in the back swing. I guess if you take it to extremes that sort of rotation is bad but if you allow the club to rotate along with the natural forearm rotation in your back swing it opens and closes like a door swinging on its hinges. Also centrifugal force helps the club face square up at impact as the wrist pronates as well. I can remember Leadbetter and Faldo talking a bit about it back when Faldo was King and I saw a video recently where Leadbetter was talking about the A swing he is developing for amateurs who are unable to devote a lot of time to practise. He also talks about forearm rotation which seems to be at the heart of the RYKE affect. I really have no idea if I'm even close to what you are talking about but that seems to be what it is about from my point of view. I look forward to hearing more and reading your book when it comes out. Cheers
  11. Good to hear your game is coming back "Rev". There's nothing like some good golf to relieve stress and to be a light in the darkness that is a shitty week. Still hoping someone can tell me how to do a quote from another post in the same thread
  12. Played pennants today in our inter club competition. There are several divisions and it is organised by our state body. I swore this year I wasn't going to play because I get so stressed when I play pennants but wouldn't you know it 4 weeks ago one of the Captains approached me after I had played my Monday morning round and pleaded with me to play because they were one short. Of course being the complete soft touch that I am I said yes. This seems to have set a precedent and I get sucked in every time he's short a man, today was the third time and apparently because now I've played 3 games I'm eligible to play in the final. I was informed also that I am in his starting line up for that final. Go figure. Any way today. The format is 4ball better ball match play. That basically means the best score out of the pair counts toward winning or losing a hole. We were 2 down after 4 and I was playing like a smashed crab. My partner wasn't much better, but match play is a funny game. At times it felt like the four of us were involved in a competition to see who could play the worst and still win. We managed to claw our way back to be 2 up after nine. We lost the 10th but came back again to win 11 and maintained that gap and at one point after 14 we got it to 4 up eventually taking the match 3 & 2. Even better was that the team won 3 matches to 2 and that put us on top of the ladder with one game to play before the finals. The best thing about the round today was being a match play event you can really put a bad hole behind you. In fact it's mandatory to do that and it helps if you have a good partner to keep your head in the moment. One hole, one shot at a time. So I would have to say despite playing poorly we got away with a win and walked off the course feeling pretty good.
  13. Had a half decent round today, shot 81 or 35 stableford points in the Veterans competition which is more the older guys in the club 55+ than ex military though there are a few of them too. We drew for partners as usual and played for $1 front $1back $1match. My partner was playing pretty shabby golf and it turned out to be quite a tight match. The biggest lead any pair had was 2 holes and we either pegged them back or they would do the same to us. The ninth hole was the most exciting of the front nine and we went down the fairway all square with both pairs needing a win to take the money for the front side. I hit 3 wood to the corner of the 18th a dog leg right (we started on the tenth) and had 155 yards to the pin a solid 7 iron for me. My opponent also hit a good drive and hit a hybrid of some description in to about 20 ft. I hit my 7 iron in to about 8 ft. The others were there abouts but not figuring in the out come of the hole and Larry looked pretty serious as he lined up his birdie putt. Of course he poured it in and shrank the hole to about half the size, that's the way it felt anyway. Thankfully I rolled my putt in on top of his and the hole and nine was halved in birdies. The second nine was very similar with no one really making a move until we won the 8th or our 17th to go one up going down 18 a long par 5. The gamesmanship started on the tee with OB down the entire length of the fairway on the right hand side. Talk of not hitting it right translated to drives being smashed down the middle followed by self satisfied grins at opponents. Everyone hit good seconds and the bad guys had thirds that were a little longer than they wanted both missed the green and had delicate pitches. I had about 80 yards for my third and stuffed it in quite close - about 6 foot for birdie without a shot and the opponents, one with a shot and the other without had par putts of 15 and 8ft respectively. Mickey who had a shot drained his 15 footer as did Larry leaving me to sink my 6 footer for birdie to halve the hole and win the second nine and match. The tension was agonising and this $2 putt felt like it was for the Masters. It went in and the money was ours. It was a pretty good day out - a birdie to finish both sides and good company, good golf and good fun!
