  1. After 6 rounds in the 90s, finally shot an 85 today. 8 pars, including 5x Up & Down. Some unbelievable putts on grain from 10-15 feet. 8/14 fwys, only 3 gir. 30 putts, including 13 on the front. Windy day. Trying to work on my balance, but still getting used to not swinging out of my shoes. Hit fat x5, so need to work on my contact.
  2. Great scores! Congrats!I have played PC a few times, and never broke 90. It's a tough course. Is #5 the Par 4 with a narrow fairway with houses on both sides, usually wind in your face, and a forced carry over water to an undulating green?
  3. For those early morning rounds, I just replaced our Mr Coffee maker with a new Nespresso Virtuoline brewer and Aerrocino milk frother. I just went from 2 cups a day to 32.
  4. Funny how getting into the 80s improves our moods, right? That's probably why I can't go lower.
  5. Undershooter, I get it now, thanks. Nice round. The wind today was nil, first time in about 3 weeks of 10-30 mph. Got old.
  6. Kev, sorry, I don't understand "read snapped"? We had a great day today. Sunny and cool, blue sky without a cloud. But best of all, for some unknown reason there was nobody in front of us for the first 12 holes. Sorry you didn't sleep well.
  7. After 2 bad days at the range, when I hit about 30, really, 30 shanks in a row, I was ready to quit golf again. Came home, swapped out the MP54s for the EZs. This morning, I think, it ain't so bad. Put the 54s back in. Mellow warmup, then a solid day of striking. Shot 43+45 for 88. Satisfied. Don't know how, but I had 26 putts with 11x 1-putts. Irons were solid, but a little short, mostly. I think I can build on today.
  8. 2+ club wind today, which was ok because I wanted to try out my new, used 3 & 4irons I got on eBay to complete my MP-54 set. What sweet irons. They kept the ball low all day, just cheating that wind. Shot 46+46 for 92 with 3 birds, 3 pars, 5 doubles, 1 triple and and quad. Sounds bad, but I was striking it solid all day. My usual drive is 230. First hole into the wind: 187. Finally had wind at my back on #8 dogleg: 308, thru dogleg, thru rough, onto dirt maintenance track. Hit LW 80 to 6 ft: birdie. On #16, with wind, ball veers towards cartpath. I find the ball in front of the green: 339 yds per GPS. Pitch 40 yds, pin high: bird. Third bird was a 6i, 171 yds just over the stick on par 3. 7/14 fwys, 4 gir, 31 putts. 2 lost balls (stroke and distance penalties), 2x 3-putts, 7x 1-putts. 3 failed sand saves, 1 shank, 1 fluffed sandy lie. Made 7 on par 3 due to topped tee shot into hazard, re-teed 3rd shot, hit short, pitched over the back, chipped back and 3-putt. Did I mention it was blowing 2+ clubs worth?
  9. It's a free drop if anything from the footgolf interferes, but they've said nothing about any ricochets, so it's "play it as it lies" I guess. The footgolf holes are 18-inch aluminum pans buried in the ground with green and white checkered plastic flags. Rodney Dangerfield voice: "Really gives the joint class, ya know what I mean?"
  10. Our course put in foot golf this winter. All along the fairways they have signs for the foot golf tees, which are blocks of cement, about 6x12 inches, imbedded on the edge of the fairways, sticking out of the ground about an inch. Our course manager says foot golf is compatible with golf, and I guess he's desperate to make money. Today I hit driver on #9 pretty good. I've actually driven it over 300 yds on this hole, if I catch the hard ground near the cart path, or the cart path (those count, too). My drive was going left near the path, I'm thinking, ok, pretty good, when I see the ball bounce high in the air. I think, great, this has got to be 300. I get up to the ball, which, surprise, is in the fairway. GPS distance : 154 yds. Eighty yards ahead, I can see the foot golf cement block it bounced off of, apparently backwards. I now have a mere 230 yds to the hole. I hit a solid 3W, to my surprise, pin high left of the green, make a great pitch over the bunker to 5 ft, make the putt for par. I guess I have no argument that foot golf is incompatible.
  11. I walked yesterday for a change. Shot 47+39 for 86. I played better than that, just some bad holes: a double, triple and quad. Also 2 birds, 6 pars. Hit 11/14 fwys, 5 gir, 29 putts, including 12 putts on the back.
  12. Played the North course today, sunny and clear, blue sky without a cloud, wind was just a whisper. Amazingly I parred the first six holes, some kind of record, before I remembered who I was and finished the front bogie, bogie, double. Back was more like the old me, but I did manage a birdie to shoot 40+43 for 83. #18 is a 414-yd par 4, usually into the wind. Hit driver 220, then a fabulous 4w 204 to a back pin, on the fringe. Three-jacked for bogie.
  13. Careful about complaining re the weather, Bro-reverend! People up North are listening.* *(But they weren't here in June and July last summer when it rained every day and they closed the courses for 3 months! Our North course still has weeds in the bunkers.)
  14. Same course as yesterday, but today it was empty. Probably because there was a three-club wind. I shot 44+46 for 90; yesterday 39+45 for 84. But the course today was completely different. The ball was oscillating on the green, I couldn't stand still. Still, the M1 driver was great, hit 10/14 fairways, but only 3 greens. Had 7 pars, 6 bogies, 3 doubles and 2 triples. 6x 1-putts, 4x3-putts. One of my better shots was driver, straight into the teeth of a 25-30 mph wind. Teed it a little low, put a good swing on it and felt solid contact. The ball took off low, heading straight for the 150-marker. The ball just kept boring on a low rise, never moving left or right, just straight at that stick, then covered it and fell, right in the middle of the fairway. GPS said it went 210, which was great, considering no roll. Unfortunately my next shot was a 9i that looked good at first, rising up towards the right side of the green, then the wind got ahold of it and threw it practically back in my face, 30 yards to the left of the green and 10 short. Not a day to score. But hey, I was out there!
  15. It was a sunny, brisk January central Florida day. I was satisfied with an 84 today, a 39+45. Course was crowded, so I played #1-3, #16-18, #13-15, #4-#12. I knew it would be a good day on #1, holed it out from the sand for birdie. On #2, blocked first ball into water, re-teed, hit fairway, hit 8i, one-putted for bogie the hard way. Got up & down for pars on #3 & #4, bogied #5, then hit the green on #6 from under the trees with PW, made the putt for second birdie. Doubled the easy par 3 #7 with 3 putt. #8 hit good drive with 3W, but my wedge went right under the ball and came up short: bogie. #9 is a long par 5. Hit fairway at 235, then topped a 3W. Next 3W went over 200 into greenside bunker: bogie. Blocked drive on #10 to 245 under trees. Pitched out poorly, leaving 160 with a severe sidehill lie. Beautiful 6i to left side of green, 2-putt for bogie. #11, pulled driver left under trees, saw a possible shot over trees fifty yards in front. Hit 9i over trees from left rough to left edge, three-putt bogie. #12 hit driver, wedge and two-putt for par. #13, 161 into the wind to island green, hit 5i to 15 ft, par. #14, driver, topped 3w into water, triple bogie. #15, par 5, drove it 251, then 3W to front edge, three-putt par. #16, 185 yd par 3, hit 4H pin high: par. #17, par 5, hit driver 268, then 7i, then wedge 115, 2-putt par. #18 hit driver thru fairway 261, pulled SW into bunker, hit out of sand to 18 inches, 3-jacked for double! Hit 8/14 fwys, 6/18 gir, putts 12+20 for 32, 6x 1-putts, 4x3-putts. Loving my M1 and MP-54s. Played Bay Palms: 69.0/123/6244yds.
  16. Found a mint set of used MP-54s at Golfsmith yesterday, 5-PW, with XP105 R300 and new mid-size New Decade grips. Hit the 5i on the simulator, rolled out over 180. Hit a draw, then a fade, then I bought 'em. Took 'em out today. What feel! Mishit one 8i, but one par 3, hit a draw 8i to the stick, 10 ft over the flag: birdie. Another par 3, 6i soft draw 160 yards to 12 ft, but missed the putt. Still getting the distances down. These are all 2* more loft than my other sets, but I love 'em.
  17. You order a Bloody Mary like that, you get a set of heart paddles with it.
  18. Kev, sounds great, but don't expect that score at Bayou. I played Bay Palms North Course, blue tees. Supposed to rain tonight. I wouldn't mind another crack at Bayou, thanks!
  19. I can't believe I just shot a smokin' hot 77! I'm a 13 hc, struggled wth hosel rockets for 2 years, going thru two PGA teachers, was ready to quit this game a few months ago. Got out early today. Worked on trying to do the same pre-shot routine every shot. Hit 10/14 fwys, 5/18 gir, 10 x 1-putts and no 3-putts. 1 bird, 11 pars 6 bogies on a 6446 yd Par 72 course. Get this: 24 total putts, 12 a side. I think the longest was 15 feet. My 60* LW was great. Up and down for par 6 times. The new M1 hit 9/12 fwys, usually around 240. Irons were pretty good with no terrible contacts, just pulls mostly. The 60* Vokey was great. I added my score on the front, 40, but had no idea how I stood on the back until it was over. Bogied the last 2, including a missed 5-footer, or I would have shot even par on the back.
  20. It was 40 degrees this morning, but I had a game so went out. On the range I started well but the things went downhill fast. I hit at least 15 shanks in a row. Then I stepped away and thought, I might just skip playing today. But my buddies were there, so off we went. Started with 2 bogies, but I was making solid contact. #3 was just bad luck as I pulled the tee shot just a little, then the wind got it and it went into the ditch. But there it hit an embankment and went over the road. Made 9 on a Par 5. Bogied the next 2 holes, which included the No.1 HC, so I felt ok. Finally parred #6. #7 is a dogleg left around water. My drive went thru the fairway into some wiry rough, sitting down. My thought was to not let the club turn over as I hit 8i down on it. Ball carried over the palms and the trap to land on the green 10 ft from pin. Rolled it in for bird. #8, dogleg left, hit thru fairway again. Hit second shot 4H 180 over green, made bogie. #9 hit fairway, then hit high 7i into green made par. Bogied 10 & 11, parred #12 with beautiful 52* Vokey into green. #13 is par 5, wind at my back, I really turned on it. Saw ball land near the water but couldn't find it. That water was 250 from the tee. Made double. #14 was an 8i into short Par 3 for par. Hit good drive on #15, but had unusual blocked 6i on approach. Hit wedge into side hill, popped it on leaving 3 ft for par. Pulled drive on #16, chunked a couple wedges for triple. #17 is 188 yd Par 3 into wind. Pulled 4H left, then made gorgeous pitch over bunker with 60* to 3 ft for par. #18 is 400 yd Par 4 into the wind, between driving range and lake. Aimed driver down the middle and smoked it. Left me 190 yds to back flag on a two-tiered green. Second shot hit 4H high, never left the flag. Landed on front edge. Left me a 66-foot uphill putt up two tiers. Put a smooth stroke on it, watched it break 3 ft right to left and go in the center of the cup. Birdie! For an 86 with a double, triple and a nine!
  21. It means he's in the same business as Fred and Lamont. Nothing wrong with the junk business. Personally I've checked several Goodwill stores' golf donations. All were rusting 20-30 year old stuff. You'd need a tetnus shot if you played it.
  22. After several rounds in the mid-90s, I played great Sunday. That is, until the last hole. I stood on the last tee at +7. A par on #18 would get me a 79. Long story short, I choked and made 10 on a Par 5. So 84. But I was happy. I went back 2 days later and shot 42+40 for 82. My swing changes are coming around.
  23. My course was having a pre-Christmas sale, 15% off. When I stopped in, pre-round, found out only Ping was excluded. Not Titleist. I needed a 60*, so bought a Vokey SM5 for $106, new. I was so impressed with it, I went back after my round and bought the matching SW. Yesterday I chipped in for bird on #11. I really love the feel of these wedges.
  24. Shot 93 and 95 here in Tampa Monday and Tuesday. Hotter 'n blazes. Thermometer in car said 90*. Yesterday hit 9/14 fwys but only 2/18 gir. Blew only about 1 club, but I kept choosing the wrong one, plus I blew myself, every 2nd shot. Highlight was #10, par 5. Hit driver right carried water over 210, finally found ball at 240 or so. Punched it to fairway, had 197 left per GPS. Hit 4W, left across road OB. So I dropped at the same spot, hit 4W again, 196 to 3 ft. Made putt for bogie. What a game!
  25. Shot 46+42 for 88, not up to my usual game. I was really cranking the driver out there but only hit 4/14 fairways, but misses weren't bad. My irons were really off, which I blame on a 3-day layoff and the range being closed. Putting was great, 27, way below my 32 average. Got out of every bunker nicely. Strange thing, all my irons were 10 yards long, all day. Flew a Par 3 over 170 with 6i, and flew a 200 yd Par 3 with 4W. Only made 4 pars, but also only 2 doubles, unusual, so I made a bunch more bogies than normal. It was humid as Hades the front 9, and my glove hand slipped a couple times before I went to the rain glove. Got it under control on the back, but still missed too many greens. No worries, about what you'd expect after 3 days off.
