  1. Maybe hide the persimmons under some modern matching Ping head covers too, really throw them off. [emoji16] Yes, I’ve become a classic golf aficionado in the last few years. I really love refinishing old persimmon woods and bringing them back to life. And yes, the collection is always evolving. I have probably about 400-450 persimmon woods in the collection now, most of them boxed up and stored. I do keep a few sets out to be played regularly. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. That is a great looking bag. Nice choice. [emoji106] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. I’ve been on the Hogan site eyeing the Equalizer wedges. If the PTx Pro/Icon combo set performs I’m going to have to pick up the matching wedges. [emoji16] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. You are welcome Sir! I love helping others experience classic golf. Like you, I love the looks of the old clubs. The 1950’s/60’s graphics just transport you back in time to the era of Palmer, Nicklaus, and Player. I’m glad the Spaldings bring back some pleasant childhood memories for you. 5. No I didn’t restore these. I had them sent out to a shop that does golf club rechroming. They were stripped down to the raw steel and rechromed. At this point just trying to recoup some funds I have invested in them for other projects. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. I need some space in the new workshop. One last drop, $475 shipped to the USA. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Here is the tip trimming instructions for parallel tip Aerotech Steelfiber shafts. It starts at no trimming for 1 and 2 irons then 1/2” tip trim increments up to 3.5” tip trim at the 9 and wedges. I’d think that trimming another 1/2”, or 4” total would be like hard stepping and make it play like a stiff. I’d be careful though to measure to make sure you can safely trim 4” off before the shaft starts getting bigger. I’m not sure how long the parallel section is to allow trimming. https://aerotechgolfshafts.com/wp-content/uploads/Irons-SteelFiber-Spec-Sheet.pdf Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. If it’s a .370 parallel tip you wouldn’t need to hard step at all, you can tip trim to make it play stiffer. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. What about a push cart where your bag is mounted upside down? That way it will be easier to get your clubs out. [emoji16] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. I don’t think any of us have had them ship yet. I have a Fed Ex and UPS account and have had no alert that a package is on the way. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Oops.... didn’t see the rest of your post below your picture where you realized they weren’t wood. [emoji16] If you want a good playing set of wood woods though, shot me a PM. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Interesting woods. But they are not Honma and I don’t believe they are even wood. If I recall correctly these were made by Golfsmith back in the 1990’s. I believe the head is made of carbon fiber. I remember seeing a set of these online a few years ago but I can’t recall the specifics of them. Cool clubs. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  14. I got out for a late afternoon 9 yesterday and shot a 42. 4 pars, 4 bogeys, and a double. What made the round different was I took modern woods and driver out instead of my classic persimmon woods. Well, I did stick my Stan Thompson persimmon driver in the bag in place of my lob wedge just to have a fall back. I haven’t swung or hit a modern wood in two years but as I was cleaning out the garage yesterday I came across my modern woods I had stored away and figured I break them out for old times sake. So after a few balls at the range we go over to #1 and I pull out my modern driver, a Cleveland Classic Custom XL. I tee one up and proceed to hit one high and right...onto the #9 fairway. I decided to hit another since it’s been a long time since I’ve hit a modern driver and proceed to hit the exact same shot. I walk to my balls and they are literally 5 feet apart on the 9th fairway! I guess you could say I was consistent. After bogeying 1, #2 is a layup hole due to a creek running across the fairway 230 out. It’s a tough carry with persimmon and after my two tee shots on 1 I decided it best to hit a 4-iron. I smoked the Arias 4-iron and actually reach the creek, going into the tall reeds at the edge. Ended up bogeying #2 as well. #3 is a Par 5 and decided to pull out the modern driver again, and again sent it right. Enough was enough. While my buddy hit his drive I went over and grab my Stan Thompson persimmon driver. I proceeded to launch a drive right down the middle 250 yards. That’s more like it. Ended up parring #3 then took the double on #4. It wasn’t due to the drive though, I flew the green on the second shot down into a waste area well below the green behind some trees. We had wind gusts of 30 mph yesterday so coupled with the fact it was only my second round with the Arias irons, club selection was a bit tough. Last 5 holes I went par, par, bogey (on a little 135 yard par 3, again flying the green), par, and bogey on 9 but hit every fairway including a 260 yard drive on 9 that got wasted by a 9-iron shot coming up short due to the wind. So I learned a few things yesterday. One, the persimmon woods are staying in the bag...precision beats distance every time. Two, the Arias irons are the real deal. Great feel, long, and very forgiving. And three, I am now a mallet putter guy. Also new to my bag is the Rife Legend Z mallet putter I decided to take back from my wife. I had tried it a few years ago but didn’t really like it so gave it to her. I put an extension in it since I had cut it down for her, but this time I regripped it with an oversized round non-taped grip, same I use on all my other clubs. What a difference the round grip makes! Feels so much more natural than a traditional flat putter grip. I have a new confidence in my putting. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. I have a Wood Brothers persimmon driver from the mid 1990’s with a “stiff” graphite shaft and when swinging it feels like a noodle. It just feels like you can can’t control it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. Well you want to make sure they are in good playing condition which is more important than the brand of club. Many times the face inserts are loose which will really compromise the head. Also, the early graphite shafts are a bit whippy. I’d recommend anyone that wants to try playing persimmon woods to spend just a few dollars more on a quality set to game. If the clubs need work they will be a struggle to play and will lead to discouragement. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. He can definitely still play. I saw Steve Hackett from Genesis in concert back in October where he did the complete “Selling England by the Pound”. He still has it as well. Those old Prog guys were so proficient even in their 70’s they haven’t lost much in their playing from their prime. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. My goodness, Rick Wakeman looks like someone’s crazy uncle. It might be time to ditch the cape. [emoji23] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. I received the gap and lob wedge heads from Arias Golf on Thursday, installed Steelfiber FC115 shafts yesterday and now they are ready to go. Can’t wait to take these out. Can’t say enough good things about these clubs. If you haven’t heard, Arias Golf is a small Canadian company that created the True Zero Offset irons and wedges. So no offset at all, actually, a slight amount of onset. I have been playing classic irons for awhile and these Arias irons look like a classic iron at address but with a full cavity back and a more friendly sole grind. They feel fantastic, just as good as forged, even though they are 431 stainless steel. They do a heat treatment to them which they say helps with the feel and also allows 6* of lie adjustment...so not your standard harsh stainless feel. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. It looks to me like you need some persimmon woods in that bag. [emoji16] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. I use Testors but any brand of enamel paint will work. Acrylic paint will come right off the first time you play. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the PTx Pro 7-iron to Icon 8-iron transition. I just feel that with a 4* gap and standard 1/2” length progression we are going to see a much bigger distance gap than the standard 10-12 yards normally between clubs due to the tech in the PTx Pro’s and lack there of in the Icon. The more I look at the pics on their site I just am not seeing a smooth transition between the two different models. It almost seems like a forced combo set. [emoji848] We shall see..... 23. If you want one shoot me your address through PM and I’ll send to you. I won’t even charge you $.35! [emoji16] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. That’s a balata. Those balls are magical! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
