I received a reply from Arccos regarding a discount for the Link Pro for existing Link owners and this is what they said  “During the initial launch of the Pro, Management does not want to issue discounts due to the demand for the product. Once it has hit market for a while it is highly likely we will give assistance to current members/users that want the device.”  So short answer is most likely, but not during launch phase of the product. In the meantime  you can get 15% of you use code BE15 from Sean Ogle at Breaking Eighty if you want to purchase now. Hope that helps people.

I found a new discount code for a renewal subscription, PIMENTO50, for a net $105.88!

  2. You can't beat the cost and convenience of the Link Pro, but Apple users gain getter utility with a new watch edition without cellular.  I guess I will wait until my watch can't last an entire round.

I upgraded my Apple Watch to the latest series 8 last year. Mine was about 4 years old though and the battery barely made it past the front nine. Ha ha.
After ⅔ of a season of using for golf 2-3x per week (mostly just 9-hole rounds) I the watch is making it through 18 holes with some battery left, but not all that much.
in hindsight I should have gone for the ultra and I will probably have to upgrade after this season. I’m hoping it will be fine for this year at least.
I turn 50 this year and I’m close to needing reading glasses, so the bigger screen on the ultra might be needed soon anyway. Ha ha.

The Watch 7 series barely gets through 18 holes, but sometimes I switch to the iPhone on the last couple of holes.  I enjoy the watch app features AI yardages, pin set, and shot detection, and that benefits the watch better than the Link Pro users.

I don’t have any data to back it up but it does seem to me that it is more accurate and certainly faster.
Putt and shot tracking is at least as good as my Apple Watch was.

If I had an Apple Watch Ultra or maybe even a Series 9 I probably wouldn’t have purchased the Link Pro but the battery of my series 6 Watch just couldn’t make a whole round anymore so it was either upgrade  my watch or give the new Link a try.

I have an Apple Watch 7 and am worried about battery life this season. I hope to make it through the season before purchasing another Watch or Link Pro.

  5. It's great to have your lofts and lies checked before the start of the season or every other year, and trust me, the cost is worth it! Luckily, I only had to get a few clubs adjusted to my original specifications. Knowing that your clubs are set just the way you like them boosts your confidence and helps you fully commit to every shot.

I recently had a discussion with my wife about how some rounds are frustrating and in general about how hard the game of golf can be.  It really got me thinking about a topic and figured I would start one to see what everyone else has to say.

We never become perfect in golf, and I truly believe that this is something that keeps most of us coming back week after week.  Whether it is enjoying being outdoors walking the course, out with friends or co-workers, or competing in competitions, we are all out here because we love the game.

So, my question to the Spies is this: As you get better at the game of golf, does it become less fun and more about a personal contest within yourself or does the game continue to remain just as fun as when you started?

I was trying to explain to my wife that I have hard days on the course and it's not because I don't love the game or enjoy spending the time outdoors, but because I know that I could have played better.  I am honestly trying to think where that turn happened for me, where I quit saying, "I'm learning the game" and on to "I know I have this shot or could have played better."

Was it at a certain handicap or a particular moment in a round?

I know every day that I get on the course or out to the range that I love playing golf and that hopefully will never go away but I do have days that I am working on enjoying the round more.

Hello @Josh Parker Your message truly resonates with me, as I have been playing this fantastic game for 35 years and have a handicap of 5. It's been an incredible journey, spending countless hours on the course, striving to improve my skills, and enjoying every moment.

Golf is truly a unique game that challenges us in many ways and never allows us to reach perfection, but that's part of what makes it alluring. You bring up an interesting point about the evolution of fun in golf as our skills improve. From my experience, I found that as I progressed, the nature of fun started to change. It used to be exhilarating to learn and hit a good shot now and then. But as I got better, the satisfaction shifted to setting more challenging goals, like breaking 70 or mastering a particular shot.

However, as much as golf is about setting and achieving goals, it's also about the journey. There's something extraordinary about the game that keeps us coming back for more, whether it's the stunning beauty of the courses, the camaraderie with other golfers, or the personal challenges that the game presents.

Now, at 58 years old, with a stable handicap and a solid understanding of my abilities, I take pleasure in the game's subtleties. I relish the good days and learn from the bad ones. The desire to improve is still there, but it's balanced with appreciating where I am as a golfer. While hitting longer drives and scoring a hole-in-one will always be a dream, I'm content with the skills I've developed and the enjoyment I derive from playing.

Ultimately, the heart of golf lies in the love for the game itself. It's about the joy of playing, the beauty of the courses, the camaraderie with fellow golfers, and the personal challenges it presents. And while the nature of fun in golf may evolve, the core joy of playing remains constant. So keep enjoying your rounds and cherish every moment on the course, regardless of the scorecard.

Makes sense. Companies want to fulfill their unit sales goals on their new products unless they have Apple's market cap, brand loyalty, and followers. Thanks for the update.

    This is helpful information

Absolutely, you can get 15% of you use code BE15 from Sean Ogle at Breaking Eighty. Alternatively I’ve sent Arccos a request for discount for previous link owners. Not sure if it will work, but it never hurts to ask. What’s the worst they can say, No.

@Cfhandyman NIce, the net cost is $132.49.  My renewal is May, so I hope more discounts will come.

    Re $150/year Arccos subscription cost.

Arccos periodically offers discounted gift cards. For two years now I’ve bought those discounted gift cards and applied them to my account to pay for annual renewal. That brings the cost down close to annual cost for 18Birdies premium fees.

    In November ‘23, I paid $109.12 instead of $150.
After purchasing the gift card, they sent me a code for a pack of 5 free sensors too, so I have some backup sensors. Just had to pay $8 shipping for a pack that costs $89+tax and shipping full retail price.

Thought others might benefit from this.

Let's help each other and post here when the discounts are available.  Thanks.

I wonder if Arccos would ever do a lifetime membership deal?

I think lifetime membership is unrealistic for technology companies.  I had a lifetime TiVo subscription, which lasted only a few years before technology advances and copycat companies killed TiVo.

Arccos's $150/annual price model is a significant barrier for price-conscious golfers.  The dilemma for companies is how much they can gain in subscribers (revenue) if they decrease their costs.

Thanks for this. The Apple Watch is one of my options, but the battery drain on both is a concern. The link v.2 plus phone have the same issues, I.e. must be fully charged for each round. I really like the Arccos data but I feel like I’m being nickelled and dimed to death and I can only use it half the year. Shotscope is looking better and better.

Although I am not a fan of the annual subscription fees, I have tried other golf training and GPS-type apps such as Golfshot Plus, 18 Birdies, Imagine Golf, and Leaderboard. However, Arccos works best for my needs, and I enjoy supporting the brand.

I really like what Arccos has done with the new link Pro. It addresses many of the short comings of the caddie link.  image.png.e8a5db7412ad14db985885bee9491cfd.png

Better microphones, don’t have to worry about it being covered by clothing, can more accurately mark pin locations, significantly longer battery life plus storage charger box, don’t have to worry about clip becoming undone and losing the link on course. Trust me, it happens. My initial reaction, was it’s about time and I clicked on to purchase, my first question was then how much?  But here are my concerns.

Price at $225 us or $300 Cdn, plus shipping and tax, it costs more than the sensors when I originally bought them and still more expensive than current sensors. Hmmm.  I have 2 Caddie links (mine and my wife’s), so I should spend $350 Cdn (with taxes and shipping) and render my old links obsolete for a few added features. Hmmm, hmmm.  Plus continue to pay my $155us annual fee, plus most likely a new set of sensors as my current ones are 4 years old and the battery is not replaceable, triple Hmmm

Which got me thinking, I really like Arccos and I am a big fan of the data and have 400 rounds of data.  If Arccos was smart, they should offer a significant discount for existing link owners. Or am I better off, buying an iWatch instead or do I say nuts to the annual fees and opt for Shotscope, for roughly the same cost of the new Link Pro.  Has Arccos, inadvertently opened Pandora’s box by pricing it such that people are now looking at all their option’s.  So while a very nice an overdue upgrade, it’s something that should have been in place awhile ago, so my money is staying in my pocket. What are other people’s thoughts?

@Cfhandyman, The Apple Watch with Arccos was better than Link v.2 for me, but I was not too fond of the battery drain on the watch and phone.  I would be willing to invest in the Link Pro if I can use the watch, and it minimizes the phone and watch battery drain.  The Link Pro and annual subscription cost will deter many people, but I believe the product is better than its competitors.  For us to continue to use Arccos, they need to innovate and improve each year to ask us to subscribe, and the new Link Pro will keep me around for the 2024 season.

Today I received 3 identical emails from Arccos about their 'new' Arccos Link Pro.  I am supposing they were thinking I might just ignore emails 1 and 2.....   Anyway, I do not think I will be in too much a hurry to shell out $225 for the new link considering how how dismal version one was, personal experience, and the feedback I have heard about version 2.  I am sure there will be those the order it right away, so I will wait to hear their feedback before I make any decision.

The new Link Pro is intriguing,  I tried the Link but it drained my iPhone battery and my older Apple Watch barely completes an 18-hole round.  I wonder if the new design solves the battery drain in my other devices.

  14. If you play partial, finesse shots, Vokeys have a better feel than the set wedge.

I replaced my set T200 48° with an SM9 model (Modus³ 105S, both clubs) last year, and the performance is similar but all full swings, too. I play finesse/partial shots with my Vokey SM9 52° and 58° (Modus³ 120S).

What a crazy round.  I played poorly in an event a month ago due to lack of practice, preparation, and indecisiveness, and missed the cut by 1.

I've played about 5x since the event and changed my approach. A 100% committed mindset to every shot.  What a huge difference!

I wasn't overthinking shots but played and managed the course without worrying about the score.

I played surprisingly well with a swollen right middle finger. I can't extend the finger, but holding the club was never a problem.  Plus, my group played Blue/White hybrid tees, which helped my lack of distance for the day.  77° Mostly Sunny with 16 mph SE gusts.  2 birdies, 1 DB.

Started slow without any warmup, but played well tee to green.  The penalty strokes were some unforced aggressive shots, but overall a decent round.

The off-season swing changes feel natural, and ball striking has improved. The lack of focus and getting lazy swinging through the ball created some missed shots, but overall, it was a decent round.

  19. I have played with T200 P 43°, SM9 48°, 52°, and 58° the past couple of years.  I use the 48° and 52° for full shots and 58° for greenside chips, pitches, and bunker shots.  After reviewing my Arccos data, I use the 48° and 52° only a combined 4-5 shots total during a round, so I may switch to a SM9 50° and play 13 clubs.
