  1. I used Golf Shot Plus previously, and they just launched a stroked gained feature for their golf phone app. It may be a cost-effective alternative to Arccos. I'm going to try it out side by side this afternoon. https://golfshot.com/strokes-gained
  2. It’s an expensive annual commitment but Arccos continues to improve the golfer experience.
  3. I think the latest Arccos iPhone widget update is a neat addition. https://www.arccosgolf.com/blogs/community/new-live-activity-feature?utm_source=braze&utm_campaign=7.20.23 - Pulse Members (iOS)&utm_medium=email&utm_content=1
  4. Date 07/19/2023 Course Name Stonewall Orchard Gross Score 82 Course Handicap 7 Gross Strokes over/under par 10 Net Score to Par 3 Net Score 75 Net Birdies or better 3 Longest Drive 288 Special Event Beautiful 85° and ideal scoring conditions, but it was wasted due to my lack of pre-round warmup and walking to the first tee. I haven't played this course in several years, but I wanted to play a practice round before a TT event this weekend. I drove the ball well, but approach shots were pitiful. Based on the Arccos data, the missed shots left are correctable, and I'll be ready for the TT event on Saturday will better results.
  5. I am 57 years old and love to walk and carry my bag, but I will ride a cart if the weather is too hot. I'm lucky to play golf without physical limitations and not exhausted after the round. I bought a Motocaddy for my wife, and she loves it. I tried the Motocaddy, my BagBoy Quad XL, but I like carrying my bag from the practice area to the first tee without cart restrictions. If you enjoy walking and carrying your bag or using a push cart, keep doing it until you can't do it. It's great exercise, too. Golfers who ride are fine. But I don't understand the need for a big staff or 14-way bag with club covers. They are too heavy to carry from the car to the golf course.
  6. Date 07/13/2023 Course Name Prairieview GC Gross Score 76 Course Handicap 7 Gross Strokes over/under par 4 Net Score to Par -3 Net Score 69 Net Birdies or better 6 Longest Drive 284 A long round killed me on a few loose shots. We started on the back 9 and birdied 2 of the first 3 holes, and by the time we played holes 16, 17, and 18, the pace of play ruined my rhythm. Two hours and 20 minutes on the first 9 holes and 1 hour and 30 minutes on the 2nd 9 holes! Crazy round. My best 18-hole score this season, but my approach shots were below average. Chipping and putting saved me. Partly cloudy at 80° with light winds.
  7. @Jim Shaw If costs are the primary concern, joining a private country club does not make fiscal sense. I enjoyed the private club life, but the initiation, range, locker, mill river fees, capital assessments, event and league fees, food minimums, and the monthly club dues for FULL members add up. The members are solid people and fun to hang out with on and off the course. Handicaps vary, and enjoy the course equally. Member/Member Calcutta is traditionally the best competitive event at the club, but other events meet everyone's competitive spirit. My favorite perk was asking my club pro to contact other private courses to play when I traveled! A long-standing member tells prospective members that if they can comfortably budget $25-30K annually for a country club, they can join and have fun. The private clubs are wonderful social communities where you can gain friendships and a lifetime of memories. Golfing at a private club will make you a better golfer, and your handicap will carry you consistently to other courses. Local golf course season memberships are a good option if you are only interested in golf. The better public courses offer a competitive league and events, and police sandbaggers are the ones to join. I hear too many horror stories about local public leagues and golfers complaining about 'other' golfers handicaps and 'local rules' modifications. If cost is not an issue and you enjoy the club, course, facility, and members, then do it.
  8. The Bluetooth speakers carts are a nice convenience, but we couldn't hear the other people in our group when asked questions or talking while sitting in the cart. The volume wasn't loud, but we needed to lower it to speak due to the position of the speakers. At that point, adjusting the volume and playing golf wasn't enjoyable. The music volume was too low to hear, and we gave up. Whispers of faint audio are not any fun, either. Modern conveniences sometimes complicate the perfect game. I am pro-music, but keep the volume down for those that don't want it.
  9. Your friend of a friend needs to respect others who may not want music played while playing golf. If he loves music while playing then get headphones and don't bother others. Additionally, why do I need to listen to 70s music? What if I want Country, 80s or other types? What an a$$! I like to play music on the course but will minimize the volume or turn it off if requested.
  10. Date 07/04/2023 Course Name PrairieView GC Gross Score 79 Course Handicap 7 Gross Strokes over/under par 7 Net Score to Par 0 Net Score 72 Net Birdies or better 6 Longest Drive 294 Drove the ball well, but putting was erratic. It was a missed chance to break par today! It was great to play with my family on the 4th of July holiday and out-drive my son, too. Humid 88° with 8 MPH SW winds.
  11. How long have you been playing golf? 40 years. What's your handicap or average score? 5.7 index average score 78-81 What do you love about golf? The mental and physical challenge to play your best at the most beautiful courses in the country. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Reading the reviews and opinions of the readers. Do you already know any other Spies? No. Where are you from? Aurora, IL What is your home course? I belonged to a private club but prefer to play anywhere now. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Plenty of excellent private and public courses exist, but golf is getting expensive, and you need to play ahead to get preferred tee times. What do you do for a living? Mortgage banker How'd you pick your user name? Come on! I love golf and play 18!
  12. Driver, 4 and 7 woods, 4-P and Vokey 48°, 54°, and 58° have Arccos embedded Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips. Scotty Cameron has the stock Pistolini Plus grip.
  13. Date 06/27/2023 Course Name Schaumburg GC Gross Score 78 Course Handicap 4 Gross Strokes over/under par 7 Net Score to Par 3 Net Score 74 Net Birdies or better 4 Longest Drive 324 It was the first time playing the course on a Canadian wildfire hazy 79° day with minimal winds. The local news reported local air quality was the worst in the world today. Not warming up influenced the inconsistency, but I enjoyed playing with a potential referral partner. 3 errant tee shots resulted in penalties that didn't help matters.
  14. Date 06/24/2023 Course Name Orchard Valley GC Gross Score 77 Course Handicap 6 Gross Strokes over/under par 5 Net Score to Par -1 Net Score 71 Net Birdies or better 5 Longest Drive 287 I am starting to stay in the moment, and the new swing is improving. Only one swing thought- "COMMIT!" 2 loose shots ruined a good round, but I'm happy about the progress. It was a beautiful sunny 91° with light S 9 mph winds.
  15. Date 06/23/2023 Course Name Orchard Valley GC Gross Score 81 Course Handicap 6 Gross Strokes over/under par 9 Net Score to Par 3 Net Score 75 Net Birdies or better 1 Longest Drive 287 I am driving the ball better, 10 of 14 FW, but I could not commit to the new swing and hit only 5 of 18 greens. My putting was solid, making six 1 putts and avoiding 3 putts today. The weather was warm, 87° with 8 mph winds.
  16. I use Dawn dish soap in warm water, a soft bristle brush, rinse, and towel dry my tour velvet Arccos grips monthly.
  17. I have too many bags. A MacKenzie Sunday, Scotty Cameron Pathfinder, Scotty Cameron Stand, Two Titleist Players 4, and a couple of old staff bags, but my favorite is the Titleist Linksmaster bag.
  18. Date 06/18/2023 Course Name PrairieView GC Gross Score 79 Course Handicap 7 Gross Strokes over/under par 7 Net Score to Par 0 Net Score 72 Net Birdies or better 5 Longest Drive 326 Beautiful hazy 84° day with ENE wind gusts up to 16 mph. Lost only one ball but managed a bogey and drove the ball well with most misses to the left.
  19. Peter Millar and Johnnie-O are my favorite golf apparel and love the modern fit, feel, and design. I think the cost is based on the marketing but includes premium materials and designs. PM and JO graphic novelty designs are better than others.
  20. Date 06/16/2023 Course Name Bowes Creek Gross Score 79 Course Handicap 8 Gross Strokes over/under par 8 Net Score to Par 0 Net Score 71 Net Birdies or better 4 Longest Drive 283 5th round posting! I played on a new course, which messed up several scoring opportunities, but I will do better next time. Cool 56° and overcast on the front 9 and cleared up mid 60°s with 10 mph gusts.
  21. Date 06/13/2023 Course Name Orchard Valley GC Gross Score 82 Course Handicap 6 Gross Strokes over/under par 10 Net Score to Par 4 Net Score 76 Net Birdies or better 4 Longest Drive 267 2 DB on par 3s killed me, but I'm starting to cover the ball better. I hit a terrific 9-iron 167 yards over a 140-yard pin: a bad result, but a good swing. The short game is coming around, too. 68° cloudy with a 4-10 mph and gusts 20 mph.
  22. I had great success with BOS. They did the original finish on your putter and will bring it back to life.
  23. I finished 1883, 1923, Tulsa, The Night Agent, Ted Lasso, Rabbit Hole, Air, and Star Trek Discovery on streaming platforms, and almost finished watching the movie Renfield. I'm excited about the new Jack Ryan season and may start watching The Diplomat and Strange New Worlds. I get HBO and Showtime and don't stream Billions, Succession, and Barry.
