I have played both and pre-owned clubs are just fine. I've had to change shafts in pre-owned irons and made money selling the old shafts then what the new shafts cost. I do recommend you look at the BUY SELL TRADE sections in this and other forum sites

Of course the new stuff grabs attention, but there is normally nothing wrong with the previous seasons gear.
Sometimes it's harder to get fit for it properly because standard or stock options are only available which doesn't always work for all, but on general no reason to not take advantage of the deal!

My putter collection includes a Ping PLD Prime Tyne 4, Nike Method, Evnroll ER11v.
The one that is in my bag though, is my Evnroll ER2. Got fit into the Ping because of stroke arc, but the face balanced ER2 works best for me

homerun3 got a reaction from bekgolf in What equipment are you thinking about?
Sold my boat in February so I’ve been thinking golf and only golf since then. TEE is discontinued at GG and went on sale there for a very good price, so I bought a set of C722 irons and have been experimenting with them. They have not beaten out my AP3s. So I did a driver fitting and traded in my Rogue ST Max for a TSR 2 and am eyeing TSR 2 7-wood. The bag is now very fluid.

Tee shot went significantly left just past a stand of trees on a 360 yard par 4. I was on the wrong side of the trees but only one tree was between me and the pin, about 110 out. I could see the green but the tree blocked my view of the pin. Over the tree was not an option, so I hit a knock down 7 below the branches. My playing partners were howling but I couldn’t see the results. I got to the green and there was my ball, about 4 feet past the pin. Knocked it down for a bird. That one will live forever in my memory.

homerun3 got a reaction from GPS111 in Why is golf so expensive?
We the consumers are paying theses high prices, so the prices will keep going up as long as we keep buying. It looks like PXG is a disruptor, as well as others, in pricing. If they and companies like Tour Edge, who produce high quality products, take enough market share, maybe the competitive forces will bring equipment prices down to more reasonable levels.
As far as the courses go, public courses have to keep up with materials costs and improvements to keep golfers coming back for a good experience, and still make some profit. If we want nice courses, we have to pay to play them.

Not a coffee drinker, but been at work since about 6am. Getting my first break in the action for today. Later on the schedule is a planned visit to the local middle school to speak to 7th grade health classes about chronic diseases and health conditions and help to educate about making healthier food choices. I'll be leading an activity that uses Crisco and sugar cubes as a visual representation of how much sugar and fat are in popular fast food menu items. Should be a fun day!

I second the idea of checking out the Tour Edge E722. Tour Edge is very high quality and very underrated. They are also a clearance item at Golf Galaxy and can be had at a very attractive price. I bought a set of C722 just because of the great price, and of course they are excellent clubs. Had to have them adjusted to my specs at minimal cost. They are in my new second bag which is in the process of being constructed.

homerun3 got a reaction from GolfSpy TCB in Which Club In Your Bag Do You Rarely Use?
Changed my bag to reflect the lack of use for the lob wedge. Relegated it to the extra bag with the highest lofted club now being the 56* sand wedge. After that, the stronger lofted hybrid is not often used, though I really like it.

homerun3 got a reaction from Vegan_Golfer_PNW in What Is Your Main Golf Goal For Every Round?
My goal is actually more of an every shot goal. It is to remember to not get ahead of myself in preparing to take a swing. Make sure the grip is correct, visualize what I want to do, one preparation swing, clear the mind, and take a good swing.
Too often I just go up to the ball and try to hit it without a plan.

Great to hear you are progressing in your recovery. I had my left hip done in 2011, anterior method. Done in November and went on my annual golf trip in April (36/day Thursday-Saturday, 18 Sunday) with no issues.
