  1. Hai! Sensei I totally agree with you. Think of the rope drill - the old pros could snap a line and whack golf balls with it... For us, I believe that .. the closer we get to keeping the club working on-plane and the closer we get to keeping an even smooth tempo throughout the swing .. the more success we can have with an O-P shaft... ...ommm ....
  2. dammm sorry to hear about all those hassles.... Well on the flip Sir Chunks wins - in a very big way! - this week's Monday Blues Award!!!
  3. Not liking my first pair of BOA shoes and gonna take Tom's advice on the next pair...
  4. Just tried this out .. very uncomfortable for me... But I'll keep testing it at home from time to time, see if there's any improvement / noticeable change in stroke for me.
  5. Got out for 9 yesterday; temps dropped a bit and wind picked up a bit in the afternoon but hey it was still a good day to be out on a golf course! Played ok-ish, i.e. g-o-l-f ... Good: Wedges - chips and pitches onto greens were all ok - avg first putt distance over past 3 x 9 hole rounds about 22 ft. Really good (at the risk of jinxing myself ): Putting - just felt comfortable with it .. 15 putts! .. prior two rounds were 16 and 17 - no 3-putts this round and just one in the last 27 holes (.. no jinx no jinx no jinx ...) Short Game - one nice up & down from a tricky lie pin-high / left off the green, about 30 yds from the flag Not so good: Tee shots - maybe I'm starting to get a little too aggressive and am trying too hard .. had a few go off to the right and so had to punch out... - Par 3s still continue to confound me; cannot stop screwing these up... Really not so good: Second shots - this is where I'm making the most mistakes and not sure why. Irons and hybrids on the range are starting to get much more solid, and it's occasionally transferring onto the course .. but only occasionally... - Maybe time for another lesson! And, well, bad: Once again sent a ball into each of the two ridiculously small water hazards on this 9 hole stretch .. one for a double on the short Par 3 (re-tee'ed, didn't drop by the hazard) and one for a triple (ouch) on the last hole... Overall +13/48 Work. In. Progress.
  6. Depending on how much time you have and how far you're willing to drive, you can find nice courses outside of the greater Boston area (that "should", quote-unquote, have tee times at this time of year..?)
  7. Had to double check - still have the original stickers on my gamer that came with the unit a few years ago! This putter is all satin finish; the other one I use is all black. I think, or I guess .. stickers, or tape, could only help the unit distinguish the corners of the putter..? Also have indirect, overhead lighting (still incandescent floods in the basement). And my cam is at the higher end of the suggested range given the distance from it to the front of the mat. Have not seen the newer version .. though would guess, again, the startup is similar in that it need to find the mat before you can proceed... That part also gives you a chance to test cam positions and view on-screen how the mat is "seen" by the unit. Oh, also - does the newer unit also give you an audible prompt when it "sees" a ball (meaning it's ready to measure)..?
  8. Not that actually is Chris .. "they" really are young and shapely like that. The Chris you see on the vid chat is his online alter ego persona. ... hahaha lol... But on the serious side looking forward to hearing more about your experience with the ExPutt .. and where you think it helps you the most. For me, even with all the other features, I also end up most of the time in Practice mode working on 20-50 footers.
  9. Good Morning, Friends!! Boy one day and 5 pages behind here... You guys are just too friendly and chatty Have to catch up later; off to Chiro and a few quick errands. Hope everyone had a fun and enjoyable weekend! And any parents who may have school kids off this week for break - good luck .. my cousin with 3 young ones put into our cousins' group text, 'hey anyone wants to take them out somewhere please do' Have a great day everyone!!! Oh, PS: @fixyurdivot wife and I watched "Mending The Line" last night (on Netflix) .. really well done movie, great story and if you haven't seen it - revolves around fly fishing in Montana.
  10. Thx, and .. unfortunately .. the Tour Velvet, while advertised as the world's most popular grip, is prob my least favorite group texture... (hey everyone has their quirks )
  11. Wow that's not something you'd ever expect to loosen! Did you check all the others, including the one for the shaft? Also maybe back out those screws again, clean off the threads and the inserts, and apply your own thread lock?
  12. G5 (not X nor V) -- underwhelmed. Had an X5, and previously a V3 and a V1. Issues with the X5 for me included occasional trouble accessing menus via the touchscreen during a round, didn't like that it powered on with the lightest briefest touch on the crown button, and .. I had noticed discrepancies between distances read out on the course (eg Last Shot) vs distances recorded for a shot. Also, honestly, I got lazy about doing all the post-round editing. (..if you don't have accurate data then you don't have accurate stats...) I have a Golf Buddy watch that seems to work well but one thing it doesn't give you that I'd like to see is Last Shot distance. So decided to pick up the G5 to get that feature (not really interested in shot tracking right now, I informally mark other round stats on the scorecard). After charging it and scanning thru the user guide the first thing that caught my eye - and yeah this is minor... It's actually 12:21 PM .. and the watch has the right time set and the format is 12hr. Switched it to 24hr and that displayed as expected. The next thing I noticed is the size of the display portion vs the size of the watch face - don't have the X5 or V3 anymore to compare but I think, maybe, the display area here is smaller..? Also look at it next to the Golf Buddy where the cases are almost the exact same size... Again, relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. But... Here's my biggest problem with this device - I don't think the yardages it gave me are correct. Now, caveat, this was only one round on one course so far .. and this course was recently updated when I synced it to the watch... I wore both watches side by side to see how they compare on the course with readouts to hazards and on approaches... I'd stop at 150 and 100 markers when I passed them, and also at sprinkler heads if they were marked and I know from doing this in the past that the Golf Buddy is consistently within 1-2 yards .. almost always on the long side (eg reads 102). This was the same on this round. The G5 was either spot on or - more often, I didn't keep count but def a majority of the times I looked, was 4-8 yards SHORT... This discrepancy persisted on almost every approach - with the most egregious example of a 12 (TWELVE) yard difference between the two watches... Golf Buddy said 52 to the middle of the green and G5 said 40 (sorry I accidently deleted that pic off my phone ) Looked like 50ish to me .. no one right behind me .. so paced it off from my ball to what looked like the middle .. and yeah I estimated it at much closer to 52 (approx 50 by my very UN-scientific method) than it was to 40.... I suppose I could request customer support to re-map the whole course, but again it was recently updated. Also no immediate plans to play another course vs at my club, but I will do another side by side to see if the same things happen. ... So if anyone else has picked up a G5 and has noticed anything similar - or if it does measure correctly - please post in here to let everyone know...
  13. The Connex requires an Internet connection while playing? That sucks... Oh well but at least the course looks to be in a beautiful area, and the golf and friends sounded fun And that downhill Par 3 is crazy!
  14. A few reduced taper grips, including... JumboMax STR8 Tech x JMX Ultralight XS JumboMax STR8 Tech x Comfort Wrap XS Golf Pride MCC+4 Midsize Full post is at...
  15. A test of a few a reduced taper grips. My grip test group... Top to bottom: Current = Golf Pride CP Wrap (blue cap) Std+2 wraps JumboMax STR8 Tech x JMX Ultralight XS JumboMax STR8 Tech x Comfort Wrap XS Not pictured - GP MCC+4 Mid. The three 7i's pictured are *roughly* similar, e.g. all GI, all about the same L-L-L, all approx similar shafts (Recoils similar weight, flex although different models). Basic objective: Find something that my lower (right) hand is more comfortable gripping and swinging confidently with. Reduced taper profile is the focus. Main goal is for the irons. Current bag setup: Through the bag my grips are not all the same, having bought different clubs at different times... I'm addition to the CP2 Wrap Std+2 there's also - CP2 Wrap Std (no extra wraps), CP2 Wrap Mid, GP Tour Wrap and one Dragon Skin Calm (softer composition - love this grip but they currently do not offer a Midsize). So, yeah, would like to decide on one grip and re-grip all the clubs. My Testing: Subjectively, at the range and on the course - my relative estimation of feel of comfort and stability my relative estimation of feel of ease .. or not .. in squaring up the clubface my visual perception of ball flight (no LM) My Results: * JMX Ultralight - Did not like the pronounced ridge on the underside caused by a seam running the length of the grip. It's pretty much alike to an Align (aka reminder) grip .. so if you do like those, then check this one out. Did not like the texture or feel of the grip. Did not help my lower hand feel more secure on the grip through the swing ... so was not hitting the ball any better. Not gonna use these. * JMX Comfort Wrap - Do like the wrap, hands felt comfortable and secure on it. Did not like the extra weight in the hands, though. Was hitting the ball well with this one .. but .. felt like I had to put a little more effort into my hands to rotate the clubface to square at impact. Not gonna use these on the irons but am gonna try one on a wedge (either SW or LW only). * MCC+4 - Forget who mentioned these but Thank You!! This one felt the most natural to me .. both hands were comfortable on the grip, right hand felt secure through impact .. and it gave me the best overall results on the range and on the course! Interestingly it's on my gamer 6i, vs 7i for the other test clubs. The one small downside is this is a much firmer compound vs what I've been using. But hey if it works for me... The Winner! * And separately, Dragon Skin - This has been on the gamer 7i and I really like it. Read about it in an MGS blog last year and had to give it a try. Just very leery of adding multiple layers of tape underneath to build it up to Midsize .. and then even more tape on the lower half to make a +4... OK so good luck to all you JumboMax users - hit 'em straight (and if you can't do that then just hit 'em hard )
  16. Couple of years ago I picked up a $30 Wahl trimmer with all the numbered combs - works great and yeah I have *DEF* gotten my money's worth on that purchase!! ...and the wife has finally gotten used to my occasional minor slip / extra close buzzed spot...
  17. Winn or Lamkin make one called "Arthritic Wrap". Also take a look at GP CP2 Wrap blue cap or their Tour Wrap is even softer.
  18. Do you know... is that for all putts, or usually just short putts, or __?? Thx
  19. Must be the new MindSet - of Rob P!! CONGRATS!! on that new PB
  20. A variation on that is hit all of your irons full swing .. working on maintaining an even, relaxed tempo .. to the same target, say at 100 yds.
  21. ugh yet another cool, wet grey dreary morning here, too .. after a nice day yesterday... .. where I did manage to get a 9 hole round in, and hope to again tomorrow afternoon (tee times booked pretty solid until 3pm!). Today's home project is trying to keep the wife's outdoor flowering garden aspirations in check .. she thinks we're gonna plant things now and have full grown blooms and lots of color next September... Hey whatever anything to keep her happy And hope everyone else, and their spouse or bestie or partner or significant other, also have a happy and fun weekend day today!!
  22. Got out for 9 today but did not play very well... Sliced a few tee shots, which I haven't done in a while, and also pulled one left .. so had to punch out of trouble a few times... Two of those rescue shots ended up being pretty good and put me back into good spots where I could make a shot to the green. Wedges were working ok and putting was mostly pretty good .. except for a 3-putt on the first hole where I pushed the second putt just enough to roll over the edge of the hole... So there are two very small water hazards on the Front 9 of my course .. I mean so small a large family of frogs can't all hop in there at once .. and yep I managed to splash a ball in each of them today! They were both short approaches, too .. and I have been starting to hit my irons better *on the range* .. just didn't hit either of those shots really fully, so yeah I have bit of a confidence / shot commitment problem out on the course... ... work in progress...

  24. In my garage I removed it on the side I set the net up on .. was actually pretty easy. (Tip: tag the wires on both ends before disconnecting).
  25. Got a Grayson polo as a gift (more than I would spend on myself ) and it does seem well made, comfortable and importantly for me true to size!
