  1. Back to the nearby short 9-holer with my honey (easiest course in the area to get a tee time on!) on a bright, warm late Spring day with an intermittent breeze. Side note: windsurfed yesterday for the first time in a looooong time, and yes .. lots of tired muscles today! So I wasn't "expecting" much .. just wanted to hit the ball solidly... **EDIT** ooops, penalty .. actually made +6, not +5 .. mentally reviewed the round and realized Hole #6 was a Double, not bogey..... After a great tee shot (center into the dogleg) had about 150 left into a small, sloped green so decided to lay up; that shot was ok but then I left the wedge in short and in the bunker .. got out ok but then 2 putted downhill .. so 5 strokes in all to get them from 150... (yuck) ** ...which I was able to do, for the most part, and finished with a +6 (Par 35) -- 4 strokes better vs last outing there and only 2 off my recent PB there. (Yea!) Started off with a solid tee shot, hit a solid enough 2nd but pulled it a bit left off the green, chip on was solid enough but rolled out further than desired and couldn't sink the first putt - so decent enough bogey. Second hole is where I stunk it up a bit .. topped tee shot (but hey still in the fairway ), chunked second and still short, pulled the 3rd left again but on the left fringe .. and then .. 3 putts .. from not that far way... (D'OH!) After that little detour got back to hitting a lot of solid shots -- if we're counting that topped shot (we are, right?) hit 6/7 fairways (absolutely unheard of for me) and the 7th I was actually aiming for the left rough and hit close to my target! Hit 5 GIRs (also absolutely heretofore unheard of for me), including the highlight shot today was an 8i from 130 out to less than 2 feet! If you zoom in (pin is back-left) you can see my pitch mark between the ball and the hole. Yes .. made the putt for a birdie (whoo hoo!). That pink ball is my wife's - she chipped on from in front of the green and just caught the slope going down towards the hole .. just a touch more ooomph and she would've been really close! On the flip side, the downside of my game today was putting; have been pretty good at generally avoiding 3 putts and 2-putting almost everything, and even an occasional look at an oh-so-close-cudda 1 putt. So overall... ..1 birdie, 3 pars, 3 bogeys, 2 doubles .. with no penalties, no 2-chips, but 2 x 3-putts (19 putts total). Oh, ps: surfing tomorrow morning. Hello Advil!
  2. Thanks for posting that! Coming from a competitive, + golfer that helps me put my own 2-chips (which I hate hate hate) (hate!) into better perspective
  3. Nice! Very nice!! Give Martha a Hi Five for me
  4. Reading the recent comments I'm now feeling a bit guilty about considering replacing my Equalizers with some Mizuno S18 wedges on sale.. (..still may splurge, tho .. I am a part of the Club Ho's thread ).
  5. Played a short 9-holer for the third time in three weeks, but .. unfortunately .. scoring and overall play is going the wrong way ... from +4 to +8 to +10 yesterday (Par 35; ~2400 yds). Was great weather, had great company (wife and her oldest son) and the old aches and pains were at a minimum so literally had no excuses!! After the first hole (only par of the day) just could not put two good golf shots in a row together; had problems with distance control on short approaches and pitches, leaving too many shots short .. but then a few too long. A few mis-hit approaches didn't help, either. And after the first three holes where the tee shots went a little right but were playable, only had one solid tee shot the rest of the round - and then went and topped the following three in a row .. sheesh... The bright spot (and kinda reaching for the silver lining here) was three 1-putts plus a makeable chance at three others (after finally getting the ball onto the green and close enough). So... 1 par 6 bogeys 2 doubles - no penalties; but THREE 2-chips*; no 3-putts On the other hand.. ..considering how I played maybe "+1 over bogey-golf" wasn't all too horrible... Gotta back to my Golftec lessons (still have two paid plus they're offering two free virtual lessons -- fyi available to anyone who goes to their site and signs up). * 2-chips: When you're close to the green and "should" (quote-unquote) chip or pitch the ball onto the green from where you are, but you chunk/fat/thin/blade/whatever the ball and are still off the green.
  6. ..was just gonna say that very same thing!
  7. Taking your own fat tire bike is an interesting idea - don't see why a course would prohibit it (other than to force you to rent their cart), but if they allow it I'd guess it's possible they'd ask you to stay on the cart path? FYI, there is a Golf Bike company, but they ain't cheap either starting at $795; then there's the Golf Board, that you stand on and ride, but they're also $$$.... Good luck with whatever you come up with!
  8. Still in the plastic .. hmmm... Good luck with it - said it before but I'll say it again: lovin mine and get a lotta use out of it!
  9. "Trust ... but verify." (not my quote just one I like and seems apropos here)
  10. Did some more backyard chipping to 3 hula hoop targets - and even got the wife involved! She wouldn't let me catch a pic of her .. even tho after she got warmed up she started hitting a few nicely .. but the important thing is she had her visor perfectly matched to her shirt Oh yeah.. I did ok-ish on a few...
  11. Hah!! I pull off a nice one of those, too, every now and then (although I'm not always laughing at myself at the time, I do realize it's just a part of the game for some of us non-pros)...
  12. Play Happy! (Nancy Lopez's golf motto) Good shooting and CONGRATS!! on that huge breakthrough
  13. Yeah, that's really the key! For me, combining use of the OW with drills from lessons has been helping me start to get more comfortable with the "new swing" and, bit by bit (small glimmer of hope), bring it to the course. Good luck to you as you keep working with it!
  14. "What is everyone’s Most inconsistent golf shot?" Hmmmm... I can only pick one?!?!? (only half-joking)
  15. Thanks for posting that - I wear a GPS watch on the course (but no watch off the course) and now I have a legit excuse for my tee shots...
  16. Big happy virtual HI FIVE ... CONGRATS!!!
  17. Yeah, what ^^those two guys^^ said ... trade-ins do not give any extra credit for upgraded shafts, it's simply the "book value" (PGA Value Guide +/- a few $).
  18. Llamas? What llamas? You talking about these llamas... https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/may/04/llamapalooza-uc-berkeley-llama-stressed-student-mental-health
  19. Got out a few days ago at a nearby short 9-holer; tho did not score as well as last time there (when I made my PB to date on that course @ +4) I felt like I was hitting the ball much more solidly - especially off the tee. Short game, tho, wasn't quite as on-point as last outing as I missed a few chances to chip it close and get up and down, and missed a few chances at 1-putts. Had a few approaches were the right distance but landed right of intended target, so still have plenty of work to do on (..not only the swing but also) aim & alignment. Did have two bad tee shots, each on one of the doglegs - one was topped and one was popped up - and while each did manage to reach the fairway each led to doubles ... each second shot for position was good enough but then the first approach faded just wide right into deep rough, and second approach I left short-left in the bunker .. both times didn't put it close enough to sink the first putt. But my #1 tee shot was solid and ended up right-center which I followed with a bit thin but good-enough approach that caught the front edge of the elevated green and rolled towards the back .. 2 putt Par which may be the first time I've parred that opening hole. The second hole I thought I was on the way to another par but made bogey - hit another solid tee shot into the middle and had a good, if uneven, lie; while I was absent-mindedly swinging my club to get a feel for the slope and my balance I actually nicked the ball with the toe and sent it zinging off into the right rough .. D'OH!! So ended up with... 3 pars 4 bogeys 2 doubles no penalties, no 2-chips, no 3-putts .. for a +8 (Par 35) (or let's call it: "1-under bogey golf" )
  20. Nice! Obviously we're still on hold as to rescheduling, but will update in here whenever it gets figured out.
  21. Practiced talking golf and gear with the in-real-life @Jmikecpa .. he came by to pick up an EvnRoll for his collection I wasn't using, and we sat and chatted for a while .. nice!
  22. Interesting you feel it's light - do you know the weight offhand? Not important, just curious, as if picked over to in a store and in that scientifically rigorous test it felt a bit on the heavy side for a carry bag to me. Nice looking bag, tho, and nice features!
  23. Played there once a few years ago while staying at a friend's house in Hershey. Cool course! Plan to go back someday (and hopefully play much better!).
  24. Yeah, was gonna ask the same thing ... Foz keep us updated on your thoughts between the two. Thx!
