  1. Wow Bruce can talk but he has a lot of quality info to share!! Highly recommend to anyone trying to learn more about putting - eg. setup, posture, balance, alignment, grip, etc, etc .. and really nothing about mechanics per se .. give it a watch! I, like all of us, am working on my putting trying to get a simpler, smoother, more repeatable stroke ... and after watching the vid I found something I could change in my posture to get more balanced, ie more stable so my hands have a better chance of staying in the same plane during the stroke. Simple but brilliant!! Also tried his drills for testing out ways to put the lead and trail hand on the club .. and now may be changing the way I do that, too. And because of that hand change now I'm thinking maybe try a different putter grip .. as in the piece of rubber composite that goes onto the shaft .. to see if that could further help quiet my hands and smooth out my stroke. Hmmmm.......
  2. Nice!!! Good info and pics! Also a fan of the Quad XL, and also put the ewheels on my wife's. If she hadn't splurged on an MGI for me I'd be seriously looking at this one. It looks like the top bracket has Top Lok - which is great! - and just curious about the little platform for the foot of the bag .. does it securely accommodate a full size stand bag..?
  3. OK so... When I met my wife she had a male Golden - and his naughty eating adventures included... three pounds of raw chicken cutlets two whole plain pizzas a very large number of small foil wrapped chocolates that had filled an entire Christmas stocking (yes hanging from the fireplace mantel!) picking out of the garbage cans in the kids' rooms (he'd push through the baby gate at the bottom of the stairs) a large ham hock purloined from a neighbor's garage an unknown number of bowls of cat food outside of another neighbor's house ..and who knows what else!? These last two roaming adventures were before I started fixing gaps in the backyard fencing .. took a few tries but was finally able to contain him. And he was a large and thick coated Golden, so I did appreciate his determination! But the best was dinnertime - it took a while for me to realize what was going on, but one kid would come home from school and give the dog his dinner .. another kid came home later and .. yep .. gave him another dinner .. then either the third kid or my wife would come home and..... Apparently he had a *very* convincing 'I'm starving lemme show you where my dinner bowl is' act!! So the solution for that was hanging a calendar and a sharpie over the dog food storage bin -> feed him = "X" out the current day!!
  4. Good not quite yet real spring here either Morning!! Yeah Mr Sun is out, but temps dipped to the freezing mark overnight plus it's another day with crazy strong winds.... So no golf outside for me today and have acupuncture later this morning .. very much needed on the old back! .. and then an initial consult for LASIK. I'm a little leery about people poking around on the eyes but a few friends have done it and had great outcomes. It would be nice to see more clearly - especially out on the golf course! (.. e.g. so exactly how deep into the woods did that last shot go..? ) Ok well get out there and have a productive Tuesday all!!
  5. Reserved a rental car .. Std SUV so there's plenty of room .. and I'm also returning to Richmond late Sunday
  6. ..and here's my smarta@@ response... hahahaha .. and here's my serious response... No .. not the same eye candy .. but his model of teaching has really helped me!!!
  7. One of my cousins sent me this (I'm not on FB .. just "x" out of the login pop-up and you can watch) ... https://www.facebook.com/share/r/PDtPt425trnqnGrL/?mibextid=xCPwDs Wow I'd like to golf with that guy
  8. That is pretty funny!! My guess is prob the latter, ie the wife knew and went along with it. Why? Well all guys who golf are equipment 'hoes .. plus on occasion we need to reload our stock of golf balls .. and unless the old guy was really committed to the ruse.... I couldn't pull it off - my wife golfs with me!
  9. Could not have said it better! The past few years have seen some real positive changes - and not just numbers like new members but in the overall quality and depth of all the various content and features on the forum. Jamie and The Mod Squad are killing it!!
  10. Just an FYI... If you look on golfworks.com there is a section for MPF = Maltby Playability Factor of irons. They measure each head and through a proprietary formula end up with a number .. then rank all measured heads hi -> lo and categorize them from SGI to Gi, etc. While *not* an industry wide standard, and doesn't include every iron head out there, still a really informative and useful guide imho.
  11. Good Morning everybody!! Hope you all had a really nice .. and hopefully fun filled .. weekend!! Was a busy one here and it did include some golf yesterday - a little warmup and then 9 holes (walking) with my honey. Played pretty decently for me, ie. kept the ball .. most of the time .. moving in .. generally .. the right direction! The problem, though, is how the old body was feeling last night... Starting to worry about playing 18 x 4 days in a row on the Kingsmill trip but hey we've still got 2+ months to continue preparing. So today is take it easy day I guess Hope you have a great even tho it's a Monday day today!!
  12. Played a practice 9 today - my course still has temp greens in the fairways (which were aerated so are nice and bumpy ), plus the tee markers aren't out yet. Overall was hitting the ball relatively well .. for me .. and generally kept the ball moving in the right direction, too! Hit driver 7 times and 6 of those were good (fairway) or playable (just in the rough) .. and then 1 good ole slice where I prob just gripped too tightly and tried too hard... Biggest mistakes were on the two short Par 3s... Not sure exactly what I did but it obviously wasn't what I've practicing over the Winter! -- Work In Progress -- Didn't putt when I got onto the "greens", instead experimented with different wedges and different chip shots towards the flag; also practiced rolling a few putts with a hybrid. So a fun - and importantly, confidence building! - outing.
  13. CONGRATS!! It's nice when your hard work pays off right
  14. I'm old and feeble and still working on the same new movement pattern from almost a year ago. But that's me .. you should get in within 2-3 weeks And, yes - some days with golf are better than others .. that *IS* the nature of the beast......
  15. Flight is booked! Checked other VA and DC airports, thx; best deal was actually non-stop each way from La Guardia to/from Richmond .. arriving early Thurs and departing late Sun. Possibly going to rent a car so anyone else arriving Richmond Thursday morning lemme know!!
  16. Yes available from Golf Works online .. can get it trimmed and with an adapter and grip, if you choose.
  17. Why not? You literally have nothing to lose (well except for a little time out of your day ) .. and who knows? Had a brief flirtation with a Gen 5 XF and it was great on center hits (when they happened) but disappointingly not so great due me on those not quite on center hits..... Good luck!
  18. Holy (bleeping) (expletive) (bleep) WOW!!!! I love you, man. I love your beer choices very very much.
  19. Did some range time this afternoon, and .. it went fairly well! Then saw that the putting green was open so spent some time there, working on lags edge to edge then random putts to different little flags for distance control .. went fairly well there, too! So feeling somewhat better about things related to golf, vs my previous attempts recently, and went back to the range for a little more chipping / pitching and a few full swings... .. one of the things I was working on was using my 6i to go at the 100 yd marker (my range has those about 8 ft black & white thick poles) and on my last shot - nailed it dead on! (..maybe about a foot up from the base, I think) - so kinda happy with myself there Walking back to the putting green for a few more minutes there and the pro asks if I'm heading out .. wasn't thinking about it .. but he's like 'no one's out; it's a nice day; you're here ready to go...' .. so heck why not? Just had my practice set with me which is driver, 4H, 6i today (typically 7i), PW (45*), 54 and 60 in a small, light carry bag. Played 4 holes - two on the back back then two on the front - where each pair forms a convenient loop. Gotta say while there were not any great shots - and of course a few haha not so great ones - they all went in generally the right direction (and no lost balls). There are still temp greens so I wasn't putting (fairways are also still pre-season condition) .. practiced chipping towards the flag with different wedges; also tried a few short blade of the wedge putts for the heckuvit. So overall starting to feel like the upcoming season may actually hold out some promise ..but still it's a... Work In Progress!!
  20. Yes, via an older Cobra driver that was my wife's (before I got her a newer one). Shaft was a Fuji (something) and while it was useful at the start of my own O-P Experiment .. ultimately I settled on an A flex. For me and the way I swing I need just that little bit more of stability yet still have a nice kick at impact. If you've read through this thread you'll see that .. obviously .. everyone has different tendencies so the best thing is to do your own trial & error. Good luck!!
  21. And another Happy TGIF to you all!! That cheery, bright Mr Sun who visited our area the past few days seems to be hiding today - not sure if there's a threat of rain or not, but at least temps are still mild before a forecasted drop coming up. So maybe a little golf practice or try to play a few holes later..? @Peaksy68 hoping for a quick recovery! ..and rest up, that nice restaurant will still be there when you're ready for it... @Triple_Putt I know the old Mom saying is wear clean underwear in case you get into an accident .. but you were really prepared and had clean pants with you! (.. but not asking the next question ) Everybody - I hope your coffee .. and your golf games .. are hot!! Enjoy the day!
  22. Yikes. No - not the start to a day anybody would expect - but OTOH you were "lucky" in that you were with not just people, but people who reacted quickly and helpfully! And haha enjoy that heart healthy hospital food - it's, uhhh, good for you Hope you feel better and are back in action right quick!
