shotscope and i'm thinking of new wedges ( Cleveland RTX4)

I saw this and I was still undecided as to which system to get ,but this will definitely tip the scales towards Shotscope. This is great news and a good way of getting some friendly competition and banter with the MGS group. I applaud this

I'm not part of the official review, but I'm one of the cheapskates doing the DIY version. This past weekend, I bit the bullet and ordered a used swing radar on eBay (about $85). For my part, I would say there's an immediate difference between actually swinging fast and feeling like I'm swinging fast. I have literally just begun my training, so take what I'm saying with a block of salt. But I suspect that, unless you already have a very well-calibrated feeling of the difference between a well-sequenced swing that gets the speed in the right place (on the one hand) and just a high-effort swing (on the other), the radar is almost essential.
about the radar being mandi tory, it would seem that one would need it to quantify the results.
sorry for the slow responses guys.

Because you asked, here's a video of my left handed swing. I'll apologize for the fact that the camerawork isn't that great since I was doing it on a tripod. I'm using the green stick, it's the light one but my medium weight, I have the senior set.
View at your own risk.

One other thought I have, not on gaps per se but on distance inconsistencies, is that temperature is a huge factor that can account for the clubs playing one distance one day and a different distance the next. I live in Maryland and temperatures have bounced around quite a bit over the past month. My i500s arrived on an 85 degree day, and I immediately tried them out at the driving range where I picked them up. The 9 iron was easily reaching the island green at my local driving range. For reference, there is a red flag in the middle of the green measured at 147 yards from the hitting bays I normally use. My shots were mostly just a hair short of the flag so about 140-145ish. A few days later I went to the range and the temperature was in the upper 50s and I was splashing balls in the water 15-20 yards short of the flag consistently. A few days later, the temperatures went back up and I was back to the 140-145 distance range I was seeing when my clubs first arrived. This is a weird time of year temperature wise for a lot of folks with some nice days and some cooler days. It certainly could explain the differences people are seeing day to day and also indoor vs. outdoor.
interesting. I think the temperature variance will affect golf ball performance more than the club as the elastomers are more temperature variant than metal.

Great question. I have to see.Do you think you would consider sending them to ping and getting them into retro lofts?

One thing about delofting on the long irons is if you lower the trajectory, you need to make it up with ball speed. That is my understanding.

Love the stage twos and honesty so far .
Har, what made the decision for you on where to do the split in the set?
Thanks Nun.
Sorry for the late reply.
the decision was based upon the yardgage gaps. if i kept my 7i, i would have had about a 40 yard gap to the ping 6i.
and i need to evaluate my yardages next year and i will do more testing.
This will still be a work in progress.

Ha! If that is a D+, my C- is an A!
J/K, it really isn't that bad. I think as golfers, we are hyper critical of ourselves.
Never taken lessons either. For your enjoyment:
I agree with GB.
i've seen a lot worse.
Nothing wrong with that swing.

I'm a bit away from having a stage 2 ready but I wanted to drop in for a little update now that I've finished my irons-only experiment and am back to using the full bag. It feels weird being the only one seeing benefits from these clubs. I'm happy they work for me, but am surprised at other findings.
For my little experiment I played to some basic ground rules:
1) Can't hit the same club twice in a row
2) Can't tee off with the same club 2 holes in a row (skipping par 3s)
3) If Arccos usage for some dropped below the rest, play to yardages that'll dictate those clubs into greens
...then I gradually moved up the bag in phase
-Simplified course management is fun! I've tied my best Arccos score twice. Maybe I should lose the woods and wedges permanently?
That's all I've got for now. As I stated in my last mini-update, these irons can be a great fit for a very specific player but may not have widespread appeal. So far, they fit me and I'm very pleased with their performance.
interesting approach. So what is the reasoning behind rules #1 and #2? or just your own rules you came up with?
And i agree with the simplified course management. it was fun shooting from the fairway when i also put away my woods.
And the guy i was playing with (an older gentleman) looked at my 6i and said "this is an iron?"
i am glad tto see hat you are reaping the benefits of these irons.

Thanks. I want to love these, but I just can’t get them too work. Maybe I was just so excited for these and way too much hype.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkFor me , i was hyped about the distance, but once it sank in about the problems i was encountering because of it or the second guessing i was doing, i said... I'd rather be short and consistent . and i found that my well struck short irons were the same distance.

Do you have any ideas why the 6 irons went farther than the 4 or 5? Inconsistent striking or something else?
great question.
I never focued on the 5 or 4 as the 6 was working great. and that is one question i need to answer next summer. Are they as easy to hit as the 6? and what will that distance be like.

I had to laugh about the *big* divots. If yours look like RI, mine look like AK.
Thank you GB.

Nice Stage 2! And I agree with you completely, for sound and feel... Mizuno is king!
I was in love, but then when i started overshooting the greens, duffing the PW, i started double guessing myself (mid and short iron shots) and i couldn't trust a shot or the club. So for example, i was oveshooting, thus i backed off and now i am short. it was a no win situation. I never experienced that before. And then i was looking at the distances of each club and how wide spread it was and the gaps between clubs.... I loved the 6 iron as stated and looking at the distances, it is gold.
16 hours ago, perseveringgolfer said:very thorough stage 2- well done. Affirms my initial thoughts on these clubs aimed at higher handicaps. I can see from a marketing perspective why Ping tried this but there are more suitable options out there in my view.
Thansk Perservering. You are correct. i am anxious to see the other review and i was even surpirsed that Steddy didn;t mind them. he plays Mizuno and is a low handicapper and i was sure that he would have traded them, but...

Beautiful courses up there Har, and great round. One of these days I gotta get up that way. The wife's been talking about it, as we'd rather head that way than Florida for a vacation, especially in the summer. Congrats!

Today was my last day of golfing.
I went to the driving range yesterday because I was still undecided about these clubs. My ball striking has become better and my scores are dropping. What I needed to know (outside of what I was experiencing with the clubs) was that was it because of the clubs or my ball striking?
So today I went out to play with my Mizunos and left most of the Pings at home with the exception of two i500 irons to find this out.
Stage 2 will reveal the result.
or if you look in the how did you play today thread...there is a hint in there.
