  1. I was largely unfamiliar with the brand and never really looked into them until I was tasked to do an article on Launch Monitors.

What I found was pretty impressive. Good pricing, reasonable annuals and good ratings for MGS.

For all you users out there with them, what do you think or yours? What do you like, what would you like to see improved? What model do you have? Why this over others?

  2. I've tried to do various comparisons over the years but it's really hard given the change which was made to signing up for tests. That happened sometime in 2021 and for about a year (maybe a little more) reviews were also posted within this platform. It created separation between the forum posts which are counted and all the member testing posts.

There are essentially eras for the forum with the beginning being from 2010 to early 2016. This saw some growth but was a slower period. From 2016-19 there was more growth and many of the things that are here today come from this era. 2020 was it's own beast for obvious reasons then the 2021-2022 was another separate era with well a lot. From 2023 on is what I would consider the current era.

I don't know the whole history of the forum as I have only been here since 2016, but have definitely seen my fair share of ups and downs within the forum. Where we are now is certainly a fantastic high which I hope continues!

For those that have installed and removed the same grips several times with air, is there any drawback to this? Does it cause the grip to get "looser" the more you do it? Can it cause damage or premature wearing of the materials?

For me the answer is no - it is part of their claim with their technology that they use to make them. That said this has only been my experience with a couple of times.

The time has arrived, the Ping S159 unboxing...

I was out of town over the Easter weekend visiting my wife's family, so I delayed the FedEx shipment until I was back home. The delivery arrived today, and after getting the completed delivery notification I had to frantically wrap up my meeting so I could get the box off the porch!

As everyone has noted so far, the packaging was good, the entirety of the contents are seen below. As you can see, the wedges arrived with simple padded covers on the heads for packaging. In the box were the three wedges held together with a few rubberbands, the packing slip and pink tag for each wedge with the specifications.

Each wedge head was wrapped in plastic each with a sticker with the QR code and the words "FIND YOUR GRIND". When scanning the QR code, the link provided brings you to the Ping WEBFIT WEDGE web application our testers used to help decide the grinds they wanted for their wedge orders.

    First impressions

I have to agree with everyone's opinions so far. They. Look. Great! I tested out the wedges at a Golf Galaxy before deciding on the wedge specification I wanted to order for the testing. Of note, the wedges felt a little light for my liking off the rack, when specifying my build I made sure to ask for D4 swing weights across the board and they already feel better to me.

For my wedges I went with two of the chrome finishes with Hydropearl 2.0 for the 54* and 58* and because I have Maltby wedges and irons with the dark finish I opted for midnight for the 50* so I could compare the two. I really wanted to give the Hydropearl 2.0 finishes a go after reading about previous generation performance here https://mygolfspy.com/labs/2022-wet-wedge-test/@bens197 also noted this testing in an earlier post. After seeing the midnight finish more closely in person, I have to say I almost wish I went with midnight across the board. The dark finish looks great, and I love that they kept the dark theme for the PING branding on the back of the wedge, as well as the paint fill on the bounce number. I'll get some more photos comparing the finish to my Maltbys' later.

This past weekend I played a round with my old Vokeys when I was down in Florida. I was all over the place off the tee, but didn't miss often with my wedges. There was definitely less action that I'm used to and had to play for a bit more roll out especially on anything less than a full swing, I'm excited to see what the new grooves will do! I can definitely tell that the leading edge of the PING S159s are quite a bit straighter than the more rounded edges of my Vokey SM6s, and my Maltbys and I like the look at address, but won't be able to tell how much of a difference it will have until I get some reps in.

    New Grips!
Much like wedges, I hear you're supposed to change your grips pretty often too. I went with the PING Dylawedge Lite grips for the light taper and the longer grips. Off the bat I definitely prefer the material of the PURE grips I have on the gamers, but after giving them a quick wipe down to get all the factory and cardboard dust off they feel a lot better. I was definitely gripping all up and down the wedges this weekend for a variety of shots, so I'm interested to see how the longer length and less taper feels when I get to play with these around the greens. I might end up switching out the grips and just building out the lower half for a less taper at the end of testing if I keep the wedges and still am iffy on the Dylawedge Lite grips.

I'm looking forward to getting the testing underway and getting photos and numbers comparing my current gamers to the S159s. It's going to be fun on a bun!

    So pretty!

  5. Glad to hear you are getting back into the game!

I wouldn't say it is a mistake - it will be a lot more challenging and there is a bit of a thought to play the most forgiving irons that you can stand looking at. You will be punished a lot more for misses and will feel it immediately.

After a range session or two I think you will have a good feeling on whether you went down the correct path or not!

As far as clubs go, I would say Ping is my favorite. My first set of "real" irons were Ping G25s and my first putter was a Ping Sigma G anser, I have always gravitated to them since then. They just make quality, forgiving equipment.

Puma takes it on shoes, they have some of the best looking golf shoes in my opinion. They're also quite comfy.

When it comes to clothing, my polo selection is 90% Under Armour. I think it's because they're not overpriced and I can find them in tall. Which is YUGE!

Now, this is where I hope some people drop some links.... t shirts. I'm always searching for the lesser known brands like Linksoul, Subpar, or Club Pro Guy. I'm a sucker for random golf graphic tees.

32 degrees has been one I've wanted to order from but they are US Only. Heard great things though!
