  1. 1st tiebreaker: Cut is +2 2nd tiebreaker: Christo Lamprecht as low amateur
  2. Despite having travelled all over the world and having played at a few of the Top 100, ... it's Augusta National.
  3. I just want one that hears! Mine never listen to me!!
  4. I don't believe that any round should take longer than 4 hours whether the course is packed or not. The main culprit is no enforcement by marshals. Whether public or private, it doesn't matter. Marshals need to move players along. For those who say they paid their money, well, . . . so did the people behind them! If they are upset/offended, maybe they won't come back and pace of play will improve. The factors which drive slow play are many. The biggest reason is players playing the wrong set of tees. After that, take your pick: too much alcohol; too much joke/story telling; cell phone use; tee time intervals; not playing ready golf; looking forever for a golf ball as if they only have one golf ball; playing like $million is at stake; etc.
  5. For the average golfer, I think that equipment bias is based purely on your performance with that brand. If you always hit say "(Pick a brand" ) balls and clubs, and you do well, there's your bias. It gives you confidence and that makes all the difference in the world. If you don't like looking down at a club/ball, there's a good chance your performance will suffer. It really has much less to do with whic company makes the balls/clubs as many are just as good. If you are a single digit handicapper, .... you probably have a more knowledeable assessment of various brands. But, having said that, confidence is still the key.
  6. My wife and I always walk 18 and carry our clubs, usually in under 3 hrs. And, yes, we are over 70. For me, riding gets me to the next shot too fast -- it's almost like hurry up and hit. Next, walking is a great exercise -- it beats running!! Finally, it lets you enjoy the scenery -- you're just more conscious of it and not hurrying to play the next shot. We always score better and that's a good thing.
  7. Right now, it's a mix of Callaway and Titleist. But, I'm in the long-term process of changing out to all Titleist. Will be checking out the T350s and then waiting to see if there is a new/better/revamped T400.
  8. I always carry the same 4 wedges and never change out. They are PW, AW, SW (Callaway Rogue ST Max OS) and 60* Vokey SM8. Actually I use the Vokey as my sand wedge most often.
  9. 1.How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? - While first playing in my teens (1964-19700, I started playing more regularly in the mid-1980s. My handicap is 12.1 2.What do you love about golf? - Just enjoying the scenery, being outside and, in some cases, the quiet and solitude. 3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? - Enjoy the equipment reviews. Don't know other Spies. 4. Where are you from? What is your home course? - Originally from Kansas City, and now live in Tucson, AZ. Home course is Tucson Country Club. 5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? - Lots of good golf courses and the ability to play yar-round golf, are the best things. My wife and I play 18 holes, walk and carry our clubs in around 3 hours. The pace of play is really good on our home course. On the negative side, and this applies everywhere, is the overall cost of equipment (clubs, shoes, balls, etc) 6. What do you do for a living? - Nothing, I'm retired. And ,.. I run out of time to do all the nothing I plan to do! 7. How’d you pick your user name? - it's a combination of my wife's name (Cathy) and mine (Lou): catlo
  10. These three things are the toughest for me. I know you asked for the toughest but have to rank these as number 1: 1A, 1B, 1C. 1A - Green-side, downhill bunker shot 1B - Playing through slow group in front of you -- from tee to green! 1C- First tee with crowd of the next tee time groups
  11. Well, Glover is certainly hot right now. However, I'd prefer consistency over a career. His weakness was putting. While it appears that he has overcome that for now, that particular fault always comes back to haunt you. It doesn't take much to make that confidence go away -- and 100% of golf is 90% mental. As for JT, the Ryder Cup is not a place to work yourself out of a slump. Keegan Bradley has also been hot but still shows his usual weaknesses. While both Bradley and Glover deserve kudos for their hard work and perseverance -- this is not a "give everyone who competes and orange slice" event. With the pressure the Ryder Cup applies to players, you need consistency and reliability over a longer period of time.
  12. I always use plastic because they last a lot longer. Prefer the ones with color markings to ensure consistent tee height although you can get wooden ones with similar markings. Finally, they do not leave a color mark on the bottom of your clubs.
  13. I'm waiting to see if and when Titleist comes out with a new and improved T400. I'd most like get them even though their cost will probably approach the national debt.
  14. My favorite is/has been Tiger Woods. I think the press vilified him more so than others, especially given the behavior of some golfers from previous eras. But, as he is not playing due to all his injuries, it's a tie between JT Thomas and Rory McIlroy. Rory seems overly concerned about the LIV and JT is in one of those slumps that the current group of golfers seem to eventually go.
  15. Ok, brace yourselves. I use the Wilson 8813! Yes, I bought it in 1989 and am still using it. On average, I make right around 30 putts per round. I've tried others and I just make more putts with the old putter. As most of you know, 100% of golf is 90% mental. So, I just have confidence with it and that makes all the difference in the world. Also, I just have trouble looking down at the newer putters. Some look like the Starship Enterprise; others look like anvils. For me, they just don't inspire confidence. Not sure that anyone will make the type of blade anymore. Wilson did just come out woth a remake of the 8802. I may have to get it after having a memorial service for the old one! Mickleson uses a special blade that resembles the old Wilson 8802. Moral of the story: the best putter for you is the one you like the most. Newer is not necessarily better.
  16. My wife and i have joined a private club and really enjoy it. Other forum members have covered all the advantages and disadvantages of membership very well. However, I might point out that depending on how often you play, where you play and the associated costs with that play, you might not find club membership not that much more expensive (depending on the initiation fee) -- or the increase might be worth enjoying all the advantages/benefits other forum members have mentioned. Additionally, you can enjoy reciprocal playing privileges and/or reduced rates at other clubs both in your hometown and other locations when you travel. Finally, the food and other amenities are very good: swimming, gym, tennis, pickleball, etc. Just something to think about.
