  1. Steve Launceston, Tasmania , Australia. Pro V1 Swing speed about 100-110 As well be in the height of summer in Jan/Feb what a perfect opportunity to test things. I usually play twice a week but could ramp that up a little in the pursuit of science! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  2. My brother brought a NX7 last year after his old Bushnell gave up. He says the NX7 is an easier unit to use. I can’t wait for my sureshot to die so I can get one too. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  4. I am now 4 weeks and 99 holes in and cannot believe the difference. I have had 2-3 putts ( both from 20+meters on very undulating greens) and only missed 3 putts under 5 feet. For a guy who was a 3+ 3 putts every 18 holes and missed more than I made from outside 3 feet I couldn't be happier. The 4 comps I've played including a medal off the back blocks where I finished -3 the worst stableford score I've shot is 34pts. My brother even commented at the weekend I made 5 putts that I would normally missed. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  5. As probably one of the people who Rover Rick is referring to who posted over the weekend with the underlying theme of “see a pro” the real message I was trying to convey was, don't believe our own press. If your going to have a “club fitting”, don't tell the fitter what you want. Go in with a clear mind and you might be surprised what comes out. Just because a tour pro who practices for endless hours per day can hit said club doesn't mean I who plays here and there will have the same outcome! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  6. Hi all. For years I have told all that would listen that I am terrible at putting. It is the only part of my game that I actually regularly practice. I continually trawl YouTube videos for tips/techniques to try and help my poor flat stick form. On my day I can putt the spots off it, but generally if it's 5 ft I'm less than 50%. My current handicap is 10 but have been as low as 8. So last week after another round of 5-3 putts, I headed into our local golf retailer and asked for a putter fit. I have known the fitter for years but doubt he knows my game style at all. With no knowledge of my current putter or swing type he gave me a spider type putter, 2 putts later he took it back, that's not for you. Then to something that looked like it came off the Starship Enterprise, 1 putt and he told me it was wrong too. Then to an Asner style with an offset hosel, 2 more putts and back on the rack. Then to a heel shafted mallet style, 2 more and we were getting close he said. “I've got what you need out the back” he said. Out comes a Wilson Staff 8802! While the look was not what I have been used to or seen before I gave it a go. 4/4 from 7 feet on the practice green. WOW. So with NO practice I put it in play the next day. To my surprise, my first round this year (I play twice per week) with NO 3 putts. I shot 3 under nett in the monthly medal and won A grade. I also only missed 1 putt from under 10 feet. I played another 9 today with my brother and still no 3 putts.... this never happens, even 2 putted from 19 meters on the last, making a 13 foot save with 18 inch break so save my par. In summary. The half hour it took for the fitting, I ended up with a putter I would never have picked up off the rack, but wow has it been good for my game. So if your having a fight with something in your bag go get a fitting with an open mind, what we THINK we need may be counter productive to what our swing really needs. Cheers from Tassy Steve.
  7. Free drop if your in a divot on the fairway. It's like being penalised for hitting the target area. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  8. Following on in this thread. My LRF is now 6 months old and has averaged over 2 rounds per week. The last couple of weeks the speed and pin lock ability have dropped away significantly. When I played Saturday I couldn't even get it to pick up a tree 30m away, everything seemed to be working but just wouldn't measure. Before I started fizzing thought I'd try a new battery (I always carry a spare)....wowee, back as good as new. So a good tip for new players, always carry a spare battery. 10. Not really the same problem, but FJ all the same. I have just blown inside heel out of my second pair of Free styles in less than 18 months. First pair were replaced no hassles by FJ under warranty but the shop where I brought originals from are saying I'm on my own for these. Spoke to a guy at a major golf outlet (I'm in Australia) and they won't even stock Freestyles and have such a bad reputation. Has anyone else had any issues with Freestyles? 11. If a player asks a spectator “how much a putt breaks” he would be penalised for taking advice from an outside agency. So why is a rules official allowed to do just that? Why isn't the marker penalised for also signing an incorrect card? If the penalty is assessed the day after why should I be penalised for signing an incorrect card when the score was correct at the time of signing? No problem with them getting the appropriate penalty but the extra 2 strokes stink. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  12. Hi Tony I have now played 4 rounds with my new range finder (sureshot 5000ip) and would have to say it is faultless. I am still “gun shy” after my last 2 rangefinders (sureshot 2000 and sureshot 3000) so I measure EVERYTHING 3-4 times to be sure. There have been times it doesn't lock onto the flag and it doesn't give you a measurement.....perfect. If your not sure give nothing. Would happily recommend and their service department were very thorough and communicated what was happening all the way through. On a Tazzie note, Sandford is a long way from me but next time your down this way do yourself a favour and go play the 2 new courses on King Island. They make Barnbougle look second rate (which it isn't) I'm off to play them again in February in a 2 day tournament. Just hoping the weather is better than last time I went, wind was 30kmh by 8am and got stronger as the day went on!! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  13. 3rd time a charm. Have played 3 rounds with my new replacement unit and VERY HAPPY to report this one is a keeper. This one is so good if you point the unit at the target and press the “on” button most times it will give you the correct measurement, even if you weren't perfectly on the target. 15. Just a follow up on my range finder. I sent it back at my expense to the supplier, after about 5 weeks they agreed that the unit had issues and agreed to replace with an upgraded unit. You beauty..... I thought. New unit arrived and I used it once at a foreign course. The replacement unit was worse than my original. Rang them and they told me to send back. After another 3 weeks and them testing it a several courses they agreed it would give inconsistent measurements but were within their parameters. End result they are upgrading me again to the new 5000ip unit. Waiting with great trepidation. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  16. No, not your girlfriends hair, your driver! As a young fella I always admired how the older blokes could still play off quite low handicaps. I quickly realised there secret to success was hitting fairways. While I found it hard as a teenager not to try and “smack the crap” out of it, when I did I found I hit more fairways and scored better. In a conversation with my local pro yesterday he was telling another guy he need the driver that gets him as close to the target regardless of where it goes. My local course has 12 holes where I hit driver. My average would be 8-9 fairways hit per round with my best at 11 average driving distance 230-240m. While I understand the concept of the closer the target the shorter shot you have to play and the closer to target you should get, but what good is length if poor direction puts you 20m in the bushes? So what do you all think, long and curly or short and straight? Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  17. o I remember a guy had a power pod when I first started playing. Wierdest thing I've ever seen/ used. In a strange twist of fate I'm now great mates with his Son in law! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  20. Last Saturday in monthly medal. Had parred first 3 holes which have a combined stroke average of 3.6 over par. Got to 4th a long par 5 around a water hole. Hit my drive which carried over the water but didn't get out of the hazard and rolled back into the water. so re teed and did the same! Got the 3rd one in play and proceeded to make a solid 11. After much intense ribbing by my playing partners we get to the end and tally up the scores and I shot a respectable 87 off stick (16 over) and won our group. To make it worse, we had a guy in our group who had never played the course. We had $10 on the game as a aggregate stroke (I drew the new guy) we ended up winning by 7 strokes. Winners are grinners. 21. I finally relented. After suffering very nervous putting for a year or so I finally stumped up the cash and had a putting lesson.....best $80 I spent for a long time. The local pro quickly identified a very weak grip style. We spent 10ish minutes trying to find a stronger set up that didn't feel too foreign to me and then half hour of drills and technique, and what do you know from previous round of 5-3 putts with 3 of them coming from inside 5 metres to NO three putts with 6-8 putts from outside 6 metres and even made all 6 putts from 5 ft or less ( A miracle for me)! I even had an eagle putt from 20ish metres which I left 5ft above the hole and got the birdie! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  22. I wouldn't think it would be a battery issue, it has done it from brand new. I even set it up on a camera tripod one day to see if was me moving all over the place but still couldn't get a consistent reading. I am from Launceston, about 1 hour from Barnbougle. But am a bit of a tart when it comes to playing, I will travel anywhere for a swing! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  23. If everyone stands straight and tall with arms relaxed by their side, the tips of your fingers will be a very similar distance from the ground regardless of individuals height. Putter length is determined by posture. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  24. Hi all from Tasmania, Australia. I purchased a new Sureshot 2000 range finder about 10 months ago and am really struggling with it. I previously had the 1000 until the display gave up (which I found out later was a major problem for that unit). My 2000, while it has pinlok seems to consistently give false readings. While playing today it gave me a reading of 280m, which if I were that far from green I wouldn't need to use range finder. When I measure to the tree right behind the pin I got 150m and then tried again on the flag and got 110m! Amazing differences. I played with a guy Friday who had the same rangefinder and asked to try his. I used his for 2 holes and it worked perfectly, the same as my 1000. He tried mine and said it was crap! I have already sent the unit back within 1 month of purchasing and was told there was nothing wrong with it. Has anyone else had similar issues and how did they get it resolved? Thanks Steve Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
