  1. I concur with those saying don't change for change sake.

Two possibilities from my view - wedges and driver. Would look at new sharp grooves to help save strokes around the green. Good pricing now for Cleveland RTX 4s ($99) with fair amount of bounce options.

On the driver, might look at G410 and Cobra and I would suggest a fitting for either.  Think G410 is around $399 now and will likely drop once G425 comes out. Nice thing with Ping, you can still order the prior years' version of driver once new models come out. I really like my F9 as well. Great ball speed all across the face. They were down to $250 this year after SZ and SZE was released. Same might happen with SZ once Rad Sped released.

  2. Could use some help.

Been playing TP5s for the last 2 years having switched from ProV1s.  Found the TP5s to be 5-8 yds longer with very similar approach spin.

Heard about the new 2020 Bridgestone balls and was eager to try. Tested the B RXS (green box) which is supposed to be the higher spinning of the slow swing balls. Hit it about a club longer than the TP5s but could not get any spin what so ever.

Haven't done VFIT but the online questionnaire puts me in B RX (red box).

Then this weekend, I pulled out a regular ProV1 and hit it great.  Good distance and lots of spin. With that performance, should I be looking at the B XS for similar ProV1 performance?

  3. Two thoughts on your question.

First, what's lacking at the top of the bag?  When you said you played one-lengths, I was surprised to see the Ping Crossovers in the bag.  I would have guessed hybrids. I've tried the Cobra one-length hybrids and was surprised to see how closely they matched the distances in my full length hybrids while being SUPER EASY to hit and control. Outside of one length, have also found the Ping G410 hybrids to be long and forgiving. and since adjustable you can really dial in the lofts to create good gapping.  Suspect the yardage gaps between the two current crossovers are pretty close.

Second on wedges, agree that the 58 might be a nice to have vs a need to have.  The key for me in wedges is to be sure both of those high lofts have different bounce properties.  One with high bounce and one with low.  For me my 56 (bent to 55) is my mid bounce that is my go-to in sand.  My 60 has very little bounce which is great off firm tight lies.  I can also lay it open if I am short sided and really need to flop.  I could easily have less bounce on the 56 and lay it off and more on the 60 then use it in sand.

Hope that helps. Hit 'em straight

Wow!! This question.  More like what equipment haven't I thought about 😎

As I mentioned in another thread, watching the Rewind of the Wells Fargo  this weekend,  and seeing the nice temps out near 70 degrees here---but courses still closed 😞   I really started getting the itch to play with my bag.    Among the items that either crossed my mind or may have found a waitng spot in a cart somewhere!

    PING 410 LST

    Titleist TS3 Driver

    Titleist TS2 5 wood

PXG Gen II 0811 XF (great price on them right now!!)

PXG 0211 irons (great price as well on these)

    PXG Operator Putter....ditto on pricing

    Mizuno Hot Metal Pro irons

    Cobra Forged Tec irons

    Sub70 699 irons

BagBoy, QOD or MMi Push and Electirc carts for the walking only restrictions.

Pretty good pricing right now on both Titleist and Ping woods.  Both planned new models this fall.  Understand Titleist is on track for that.  Don't know about Ping.  But would act pretty quick just in case for both.

Golf is expensive...I bet a lot of us get a bit sad when we see the price tag of new clubs in retail stores. Most of us probably can't justify spending ($500-$1000) on a stock or custom fit club or much more for a set of irons, but it is amazing what deals you can find on the internet! Personally, I haven't bought a "new" club in years, but you'd never know from looking at my bag.

So, I'm curious... what are your BEST finds from second hand sources like kijiji, ebay, globalgolf, secondswing, etc. that are in your bag? If you picked up a Scotty at a garage sale for $15 you win 😶

    My Top 2:

    • Taylormade P790 UDI 2i - KBS Hybrid 80S Shaft
      • My pride and joy🥰...Picked this beauty up Sept 2019 from globalgolf.ca ($130 CAD taxed+shipped). Listed as "value" condition, but I SWEAR it had the plastic on it🤯
    • Cobra F9 Driver - Black & Yelow (9 deg) - Fuji Atmos Black TS 7X - No Headcover
      • Purchased Feb 2019. Bought from globalgolf.ca ($215 CAD taxed+shipped). Listed as "value" condition, but there is NO CHANCE it had ever been hit.🤯

What's the best deal in YOUR bag?!

Great topic as I always looking for deals!

    For me:

    Callaway Mavrik driver

    Taylormade M4 3 wood

    Callaway Mavrik pro 3H

    Ping g400 irons 4-GW

    Cleveland 52 and 56 wedges

Cleveland Huntington Beach collection blade putter.

    Titleist pro v1

What am I missing other than a new putter?

Looks good, and I like the Cleveland putter.  Seems like the 3 hybrid and G400 4-iron might be a produce pretty small gap. How do they shake out in the real world?

    • Well now I'm embarrassed for myself lol... I didnt realize that I have an excessive amount of gear, goods and crap zippered into every nook and pocket in my bag. A towel, a glove, some tees, and a sleeve of golf balls should be all that I need.  However, 5 ball markers, divot tools, an extra shirt, 3 more gloves, a windbreaker, rain suit, rain gloves, 100+ tees, 40+ balls, first aid kit, driver adjustment tool, extra towels, sunglasses, extra laces, sunscreen, mosquito repellent,  2 groove brushes, an extra headcover are just ridiculous for me to lug around.  I took all of the extra stuff out, and my bag is light & will actually stand upright on it's own now!

Man, my back hurts from just reading this!

One laser, one gps watch, one towel, 2 alignment sticks ($1.99 ea from Lowe's), about 8 balls, bag of tees, two divot tools, two ballmakers, one leather scorecard holder, 3-4 pencils, a small bottle of Advil and a Salted Nut Roll from 2018.

I did not add any weight. It dropped from D5-D6ish to D2 with the new Star Sidewinder grip I put on it. It currently is playing about 44.75", as the grip cap on the Star is apparently slightly shorter than the GP NDMC it replaced.

To be honest, I never loved the feel of the driver at stock swingweight as it always felt too heavy, especially once I added the HZRDUS Yellow. This just feels better to me, faster feeling as well.

Actually a little surprised the swingweight did not drop a little more.  Believe that Yellow shaft is counterbalanced so more weight than normal in the butt end. Will be interested to see how it goes for you and all that are trying this season.

I thought that was interesting too. I don’t think I’ve seen a retail “Tour Length” offering of 43.5. But I only recall Cobra offering Tour Length at 44.5 (with cobra connect) so 44.25 with a standard grip.

Am I missing another company offering tour length stuff?

I do some fitting work at a golf retailer.  We can order clubs longer and shorter than stock for most all mfrs. Cobra is the only one I recall seeing that has a specific SKU set up for a Tour Length (44.5") product.  They also call it out as such on the Cobra website. Wish more mfrs would add that length to the demo carts. Hard to show a player that option if they can't demo it.

... Great video but I would add that Matt is an elite ball striker. Most Ams will have an even larger difference between shorter and longer shafts. Interesting Matt went to 43.5" while many can find the center much more often with 44 - 44.5" shafts.

I had the exact same reaction. Players with less consistent center-face contact overall should see very noticeable improvements. Matty-boy is a machine.

  11. Played ProV1s for a number of years.  Late 2018, I tested out the TP5 and have been very happy. Feels/performs very much like the Titleist off the driver, but 5-7 yds longer per club with the irons. No noticeable loss of spin with the irons, so I've got that going for me...which is nice.

This Spring, I played a few rounds with the new TourB RXS. My driver SS is mid 90s so thought this would be a fit.  Distance with driver was great and a full club longer in the irons than TP5.  Unfortunately, I could not get them to spin. Seemed a little clicky around the greens when chipping.

The rest of the year will likely be back with the TP5s.
