Hit a really solid shot with my PTXPro 4-iron. Heard this whizzing noise then a thump. The head of my 4-iron came off the shaft. It was on the next tee box forward. Fortunately the shaft is not damaged. Just loose epoxy. FYI. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2020 Official Member Review: Bridgestone White Box Ball
gbtrsc replied to GolfSpy MPR's topic in Forum Testing Reviews
I’ve not been able to play as much as I hoped to this winter, with a combination of work, health, and poor weather impacting playing time. But I hope to play this weekend, and have a par 3 tourney next weekend. I should then be ready to post my review. Thanks for the patience. -

Gonna be a bit chilly here in SC tomorrow (low to mid 50s) but I’ll be out tomorrow giving the RX another go. Report to follow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Yes I believe the RX is a good fit for my game. And yes I’m surprised. From what I can tell it spins more than the old RXS around the greens. I like it a lot. Wouldn’t mind testing the RXS too. Anyone want to trade 6 or a dozen? [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
2020 Official Member Review: Bridgestone White Box Ball
gbtrsc replied to GolfSpy MPR's topic in Forum Testing Reviews
Got to play my first round with the RX yesterday. Haven’t been able to play for three weeks so I was a bit rusty. Some background: my ball of choice is the Srixon ZStar. They scored very well in the MGS reviews and worked well for me, especially with the irons and woods. But they didn’t seem to be great around the greens. As for me I’m just north of 60 and a bit north of 275. [emoji44] I’ve been playing since my early 20s and after a career low index of 3.8 I’m now floating around 10.5. I’m a pretty good putter, and fairly accurate off the tees (65-70%). The key to my game, especially around our home (semi-private) course is hitting greens or getting up and down. The greens are relatively small and most are elevated, making short game performance even more challenging. So short game performance is very important. I was surprised when Bridgestone recommended the RX for me, I think because I was rusty and inadequately warmed up when I filmed my video. I think my day to day swing speed is higher than what they estimated but whatever. I average 250-60 or so off the tee, 7-iron distance (PTxPro btw) is 160. Regardless I was grateful for the opportunity to be a tester. One of the things I struggle with is trajectory with the driver. Some of that is swing, I’m sure, but it’s something I look for in ball selection. I was quite pleased with the trajectory that the RX produced off of all clubs. Higher with the driver, mid-to higher flight with long and mid irons, and a bit lower with the wedges. It was quite windy yesterday, 10-20 steady with gusts higher. So it was a bit difficult to judge how well the ball was doing for distance. But it certainly didn’t seem to be detrimental. I hit some drives for very good distances and others that were impacted heavily by the wind - but no different than any other ball would have been. I would call iron performance very good to excellent, even though I didn’t hit too many greens - windy, remember? One thing I did notice is that iron shots into the wind held their line very well. Backspin off the irons was excellent. Remember, this is the RX not the RXS. I hit a downhill (50 feet downhill) 8-iron from 176 with a slightly helping cross wind, dead on the flag, that finished about 25 feet short. Immediately behind its ball mark. And the greens were not spongy by any definition. I believe the ZStar would have released a few feet. I hit several iron shots that stopped very nicely. I was happy with the ball in that regard. Where this ball really and pleasantly surprised me was in the short game. I hit several really good wedges into greens, and the control on pitches and chips was terrific. Lots of partial shot spin. And in putting the ball felt great. Soft feel (quiet at impact). Easy to control for distance - not like the Wilson TourX I tested, which I felt was hot off the putter. All said, I shot an adjusted 84 with 3 lost balls. Pleased with that with so little play and no practice over the last couple of months. I look forward to more rounds with this ball and will report as they occur. Thanks again for the testing opp, and thanks for reading this long post. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
540 yards, double dogleg, 120 feet up hill from back tee to center of green. The green itself is very small, elevated, severe slopes short, left and right. Par is always a grest score here regardless of which tee you play. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2019 Maxfli Tour and Tour X Golf Balls
gbtrsc replied to GolfSpy MPR's topic in Forum Testing Reviews
Played again yesterday in a scramble. Played the TourX for 13 holes. Once again, was hitting the ball very high with mid to short irons. Especially into the wind. They would really balloon and come up quite short. After switching to my preferred ZStar the ball flight came right down into more normal heights. I also think the ZStar are better into the wind. I’ll continue to use them for casual rounds. The Maxfli are good balls, especially if you need a higher ball flight. Durability is good, on par with other urethane balls. Distance is also good but not tops for me. An especially good ball for the price, and I do appreciate Maxfli, DSG and MGS for the opportunity to try them out and report on them here. -

2019 Maxfli Tour and Tour X Golf Balls
gbtrsc replied to GolfSpy MPR's topic in Forum Testing Reviews
I’m around 100mph swing speed, medium transition, slight positive angle I think. Both Tour and TourX are about the same distance for me, both 5-10 yards shorter than my preferred Srixon ZStar off the driver. The Tour is a bit shorter and MUCH higher than the TourX and ZStar with my irons. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
2019 Maxfli Tour and Tour X Golf Balls
gbtrsc replied to GolfSpy MPR's topic in Forum Testing Reviews
I played the Tour X in a round Saturday. It was a solid performer. Good distance - that is, normal distances for me. Didn’t notice any surprises distance wise as I did in prior testing. Good greenside control. A bit clicky off the putter. Still like my regular Srixon ZStar better, but wouldn’t hesitate to use the TourX in an important round if I needed to. Most hybrids I’ve tried are hook prone. One reason is that they tend to have upright lie angles. My new Hogan hybrid is 18* loft and 58.5 lie, close to a typical 5 wood lie angle. The thing is a crusher and not hooky at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I go from a 15* 3 wood to an 18* hybrid then a 22* 4-iron. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2019 Maxfli Tour and Tour X Golf Balls
gbtrsc replied to GolfSpy MPR's topic in Forum Testing Reviews
A bit late to the game so far, as my job has had me busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest, but here goes... First, many thanks to the Board and to Maxfli for the opportunity to try their products out and provide this review for you all. The Maxfli Tour and Tour X balls are their shot at the Pro-caliber ball market, competing with the ProV1/x, Srixon ZStar line, Taylormade TP5, Bridgestone TigerBall, etc. They certainly have a professional look. The packaging, ball imprinting, etc. all look great. What’s my story? I live in the great state of South Carolina for the last 3.5 years, after a lifetime (mostly) in Michigan. I’m a software sales consulting manager for a large publicly held software company. I’m married with two grown sons and a grown step-daughter. We live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains with two dogs and a cat. Ours is a golfing community with the properties surrounding a semi-private course. I’m in my early 60s am definitely more “robust” than I was at a younger age. I’ve been golfing for the last 35+ years and play to a 10.4 handicap right now. Quite a few years ago I could play and practice a bunch more than I can now and had my index down into the low 4s / high 3s. I love the game because it is truly an escape for me. I can hit the links and forget about work pressures, etc and just have fun. It doesn’t hurt to live where we do either! I should also point out that I’m a big-time equipment geek. I’ve been building and repairing clubs for the last 30+ years, and have probably owned or tried most everything over the years. Also, I used to LOVE the old Maxfli Revolution wound ball. I could work it, spin it, knock it down, fly it high, and flat-out MASH it. Great product. I choose a ball mostly for the control factor. I don’t require super-spinny, but green side control is paramount. My ball of choice right now is the Srixon ZStar. I switched to them for a couple of reasons. First, I had received a couple of sleeves from my club to try out and was having quite a bit of success with them. Then, the Fathers Day BOGO offer came up and I was able to buy 4 dozen for the price of 2. I’ve been playing them all summer and find they’re the perfect combination of distance, accuracy, and green side control for me. My driver swing speed is around 95-100mph and my typical driver ball flight is probably best described as medium, though I’d like to hit it higher with my driver and FWs. My driving accuracy is quite good at around 65-70%. My iron ball flight is mid- to high, which I prefer. My typical miss with the driver is right, and with the irons is probably a pull. My greens in reg are not where I would like them to be and when combined with the fact that chipping and pitching is the worst part of my game, I’m wasting quite a few shots. More short game practice would almost certainly lead to a return to single digit handicaps. I’m sure you’ve all seen the ball at this point so I’ll spare the pics of the packaging and the balls themselves. I’ll add them later if anyone would like. As I have said I’ve been quite busy work wise lately, so the only times I have gotten to play with these were in one 18 hole round with the Tour X and one scramble, where I was able to hit shots with both balls on occasion. My initial reactions: - I saw almost no difference at all between the Tour and the Tour X off the driver. - Other than that, the X seems a bit hot. I hit some wedges and even some putts that went quite a bit farther than I expected them to. - Both balls feel great and sound great at impact. - Spin seems pretty good with both. - The Tours for me seem to launch the ball VERY high (their packaging indicates that they are the model to choose for a higher ball flight). I mean, I hit some moon shot wedges with them. - Durability seems to be very good. Though, one of the Tours picked up a scuff, and I’m not sure where. I don’t remember any cart path contact, for example. More to follow on these in the coming weeks. I have some more scrambles coming which should let me do some more side-by-side testing along the way. At some point I’ll try to get to a Trackman in the area if possible for some comparative numbers. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
That’s awesome! I used to absolutely slaughter the ball with a 975D, even with the stock shaft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Mine is still in the bag. Fairway finder and long as anything else. Only issue that I have found is that when the ball and or clubface are wet it can produce some knuckleball type shots. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

As I recall I only stopped playing it when I was going through my hip deterioration and replacement. That cost me a bunch of flexibility and clubhead speed. I needed to go to R flex shafts. Now that I’m getting that speed back I can handle the S flex again so the Cleveland is working out so far. The Srixon is a great driver and will stick around until needed again! Wanted to try something different today during a scramble so I benched The a Srixon z565 in favor of a 2012 Cleveland Classics XL with a Miyazaki 60s shaft. Had hit a few shots with it recently but decided to try it for a full round today. Hmmmmmmm..... very long and straight. Much higher flight (good for me). All drives playable. This one is gonna stay in the bag for a bit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I would have loved to have the Blacks in the bag but the shiny ones are so awesome! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Played nine last night. Srixon was cooperative again, so she appears to be over her jealous fit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Played with a guy at my club this evening that has a 54* Equalizer with a KBS Tour 90 in R flex. I tried it in several situations through our 9 holes. Full shots were high and short, which I attribute to the flex. Great turf interaction. Shallow divots. Around the greens, thesis thing was magic. Much better than the 56 with Recoil F4 that I just demoed for the last couple of weeks. I think my theory of needing a slightly heavier shaft and more swingweight in the shorter wedges has proven itself out. Probably ordering a 56 and 62 soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Srixon must have known I sent the Hogan back yesterday. 5 blocks right with the Srixon. I never do that with that club! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It was strange. I love the 50 degree with the Recoil F4, even for touch shots around the green. But I wasn’t getting the same love from the 56 with the same shaft. Full shots it was ok to good. I think I just need more weight in the 56 and 60. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
