  1. 2018 Ping Traverse 2014 Club Car Precedent
  2. Hi folks... been lurking for a long time, posting more recently. Just saw this thread and thought I'd reply. How long have you been playing golf? 35 years or so. What’s your handicap or normal score? 13.7 What do you love about golf? Camaraderie, competition, constant challenge, beautiful and peaceful surroundings What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Been following the tests for years. Don't know how I originally found them. Do you already know any other Spies? Not personally, no. Where are you from? Greenville area, in Upstate South Carolina. What is your home course? https://cherokeevalleyclub.com/ Attached pic is our 8th tee. Stock image, though, that's not me in the pic! What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best: THE WEATHER! Year-round golf. Quality and quantity of courses, we're in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, so, surroundings. Worst: Not much... Gets hot and humid at times in the summer, but that beats snow in the winter! What do you do for a living? Sales consultant for a software company. How’d you pick your user name? My initials, combined with those of our town (Travelers Rest) and state.
  3. Really? Tobacco Road? [emoji2961] [emoji13] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Distance about the same compared to old irons. Feel is not really springy but hard to say much since they have graphite shafts. The feeling is a bit more muted. But it’s easy to tell when you flush one vs out on the toe a bit. But don’t take my word. Keep your eyes out for the demos (I sent mine back today) and try them for yourself. They are the real deal... badass. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Love Dunmaglas. And The Legend Shanty Creek. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  6. I looked at that spin / launch angle data from last year's test. The Cobra F Max is THE highest spinning, and the highest launch angle. Not surprisingly, it's one of the shortest in the test. The Ping G400 isn't far down the list in the spin category. The guy I played in my match today had a G400 3W that he let me hit once, and I hit it really purely off a downhill lie and crushed it. That's one that I'll spend time with at the fitting. But I'm also thinking about going the 4W-7W route as well. Bonus for the G400 adjustability.
  7. First round in the bag. It was misting / raining all front nine, and some of the back. My rain glove (singular - couldn't find the right one!) was not being very effective and the club was twisting in my hands a fair bit with all my sticks. I think between the rain and it being my first round with them, for much of the round I was trying to hit the ball as opposed to swinging the club. Once I figured that out, my play with the irons went from mediocre to very good. I think the Recoil 780 F4 is perfect for my swing speed, but still it will take me a few rounds to get the "hit" out of my system. That being said, the first round was a success. I was playing the first round of my club's Match Play Championship, and the other guy and I were the same handicap, so straight heads-up. We both shot net 70s, and I won 2&1 !!! BTW the 50 degree Equalizer is an absolute weapon. I hit a lot of great shots with it today, full swing, partial pitches, and chipping. I'm ordering demos of the 54 and 60 post haste. More reports to follow as I get more rounds under my belt.
  8. And they have arrived! Awesome craftsmanship. The right hand buildup in the grips turned out great. The ferrule to hosel transition is excellent. Got to hit the 50* gap, the 7 iron and 4 iron tonight and all I can say is that these are going to be awesome. The V Sole really does its job nicely. Great turf interaction, no deep divots. More to follow, first round with them tomorrow morning. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  9. Revkev: Appreciate your input. Understand your comment about "favorite club", that's why I popped in my HCP, swing speed, and flight tendency for reference. I've decided that I'm going to go to a local fitter. I'm happy with my driver, and expect to be happy with my irons when they show up from BenHoganGolf.com (TODAY!), and even like my hybrid (but hoping the Hogan 4-iron boots it). But that 3w-5w area between the driver and the 4h/4i has been troublesome for a while.
  10. Would also like to find a local shop that stocks the Tour Edge CBX, last year’s most wanted. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  11. That’s really helpful. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  12. Thanks. I’m also thinking about trying an older clubhead like the Adams XtD Ti with a Matrix Ozick Program 7.1. I have that shaft in an XTD 4h and it’s super consistent and high launch. Cheap experiment too. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  13. I’m a 13 HCP with a 95-100mph driver swing speed. I tend to be a sweeper with my FWs and hit them quite low. I’m looking for advice on heads, shafts, or both that are known to produce a significantly higher ball flight. Currently using Srixon F65 3W and 5w with Miyazaki R flex shafts. Thanks. 14. Help me understand Standard Deviations. I'm not much of a statistician. Comparing the "top ball" Bridgestone BX with what I currently play QStar Tour, the only place where the StdDev is WAY out of whack is on drivers 115+. I'm more like 95-100. The other major difference is in 7-iron and wedge spin, where the QStar Tour spins considerably less. Trying to decide whether that's a big deal for me. I could easily switch, though, because I paid so little for the QStars. Thanks in advance.
  15. Got an Email from benhogangolf.com just now: "Order shipped!" WOOHOO!!!!!!
  16. Love Mid Pines. My 2nd favorite course at Pinehurst after #2. Got my first hole in one there! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I bought (pre-test report) 4 dozen 5A Mint QStarTour from LGB for $9/dozen. I’ve been very pleased with the results. I’ll keep using them and if I find a stinker, I’ll just throw it out at that price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Top 5 or 6 in driver launch angle, spin and distance with driver at 115 mph. What’s not to like ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Great work on the test, with one exception. There's a significant hole between 115mph and 85mph. Those of us that sit in that 95-105 range would likely experience different results. Just wondering why that middle swing speed was not covered, and how we should interpret the data given that.
  20. I will quickly add that Point o'Woods in SW Michigan just might be the perfect parkland style golf course. Robt Trent Jones at his finest. Former home of the Western Amateur, whose past winners at PoW are a who's who of golf. Requires EVERY shot in your bag. Private but play it if you get the chance.
  21. In no order: - St Andrews Old Course - Carnoustie - Oakland Hills South - Point o’Woods - Pinehurst #2 - Firestone (north and south) - Pasatiempo - Kapalua Plantation - Bay Hill - Mid Ocean (Bermuda) Honorable mention: - Mid Pines - Arcadia Bluffs Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  22. Order was placed today. I’m getting 4-PW with the Recoil F4 shafts, and a 50 degree equalizer wedge with the same shaft. I asked them to make them 2 swing weight points heavy, and four wraps under the right hand. Now the waiting begins. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  23. Any thoughts on flex for the recoils? Pretty sure that is the shaft I want. The demos have the F4s. They don’t feel too stiff or soft and seem really consistent. But at almost 62 years old and a swing speed with driver of about 95-98, are they right? Update to add that F4 is what the UST Mamiya website recommends for my driver swingspeed. Last decision before placing the order. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  24. To answer an earlier question the distances with them are very good by traditional standards. No 190 yard 7-iron here (especially from me). 6-iron for me is probably 165 or so. Which is on par with my jpx 825 pro. Example: shot I hit today, par 5, busted a nice tee shot which scooted over the hill in the fairway. Left me about 150 yards but up hill about 30 feet. I hit the 6-iron solidly and laser straight and wound up here: So should I order a set? Me thinks so! [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
