  1. I'm certainly Jealous as being in the UK being a MGS testers is not an option, which I understand as logistics would make it harder than needs to be. You're correct though that it's an illness that can't be cured. My wife caught me snooping around her bag the other day, having a look at her Sigma 2. I was quickly and rather violently moved away with a broom...
  2. Hey guys, I am going to put this here with the hope that UK Spies with spot it and if in the East Anglian area at any point and want a game they get in touch. I'm always happy to play with new people and especially fellow spies and golf nuts.
  3. As always I'm thinking about putters, for some reason it's always putters. I have no need for a new putter, I am happily in love with the one in my bag and all of the other 5 or 6 are more than good enough to satisfy any desire I have to switch things up but I always seem to be thinking about getting another flat stick. what makes it worse is the last 3 putters I have bought have all been identical designs other than minor tweaks due to being from different OEM's.
  4. My childhood terror was IT, inflicted on me by my older brother. He told my very young impressionable self it was a movie about clowns.....
  5. I'm new to the site but figure I would include my handle @matt_virgo
  6. Recently I've got into independent golf apparel companies and the products they offer. While the UK doesn't have the same quantity and easy availability of the UK they do have some decent ones coming through. My newest favorite is Warwick House golf
  7. I love this idea, you start the tournament with 14 clubs and have to complete the tournament with those same clubs, no swap outs, not replacements. Will make them think a little more about throwing or snapping a club in anger and also when near a tree if the risk of going for the shot outweighs losing that club for the rest of the tournament.
  8. Underrated is such a hard topic to define. I've had several brands in my bag (many listed) over the years and they usually get a raised eyebrow or curious glance from any golfer who isn't die hard into equipment. For the majority of Golfers if its not one of the big 4 (Titleist, Callaway, Ping, Taylormade) then it doesn't existed. Personally I've always found Srixon and Bridgestone to be the most underrated company as a whole currently. Traditionally it's been Cobra considering they've been around since the 90's.
  9. While Tigers win ratio is incredible I'm more impressed by Snead and Nicklaus as they have played significantly more tournaments in their career and probably at a much older and less competitive age so that could potentially skew the numbers a little.
  10. While I agree that Tiger boomed golf into the global sport it is today, I do believe it was a perfect storm of: Newer, better and easier to play equipment that made the game more tempting to beginners Changes in society towards golf and the decline of the image of it being a stuffy upper class sport only The proliferation of TV coverage of sport exemplified by the creation of Golf Channel (Thanks to Arnie btw) This larger than life talent who happened to smash social boundries (linked to point 2) While Tiger might be the biggest talent golf has ever seen, I don't think that make his the default GOAT.
  11. Reminds me of two years ago went I got an invite to the Adidas Sergio Garcia 20 year partnership event at Wentworth. I got there ridiculously early and decided to have breakfast, sitting there with a pot of coffee and waiting for food when the one and only Gary Player walks past. I jumped out my chair and introduced myself telling him how my father used to be a big fan of his ever since he has seen Player open a local course to use back in the 70's. Amazingly Player remembered the course and invited himself to sit and have coffee with me while he waited for someone. We sat with my wife and I listening to him tell us about the old days with Nicklaus and Palmer for nearly 10 mins before someone came a nd found him to tell him his guests where there. Incredible experience and purely a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
  12. My 2021 goals are to get more social golf trips played. In 2019 I had a great year playing in 7 individual open competitions and placing top 10 in 3 of them. 2020 I had a few planned (even got entry in the GolfSixes competition) but they all fell away. 2021 I've been asked to play in all our county pairs competitions with a friend and also enter the individual comps. I'm going to enter some individual opens and also some team events with guys from my club as the team stuff is just more fun to be involved with. From a swing perspective I want to cement the feels I've been working on and trust the motion I have been building all year.
  13. I've been a star wars Junkie since my dad first sat me down to watch it on VHS. Fell out of touch a little with the Disney acquisition as I had read so many of the extended universe books and was a little miffed that it was all being thrown away. Slowly getting back into the Wars now that my kids are showing an interest.
  14. Two years ago my course held a pro-am. Our head Pro has a lot of connections so he was able to get a lot of good local level pro, and some lower your pro's to attend. One such lower level pro actually had a full schedule European Tour card for one year, 2 years prior to this event so was still a seriously good golfer. The format was three members and one pro in a best 2 form 4 format. The pro's also had their own individual comp with the very small prize money coming out of the members entry fee. All the pro's attended to be part of the day, certainly not for a pay day. This particular tour pro went round in a 2 under par 70 and placed second among the pro's to a 69. To put it in perspective the best member of the day was level par at 70 so although a few pro's shot better than the best am they weren't miles better. So although they could handle the course and it's less than stellar conditions they didn't rip it apart. However when put into context, that 2 better for one round, is 8 better over a 4 day comp assuming that scoring trend continues. The pro is likely to shoot 3 more 70's while the am is less likely to shoot 3 more 72's. I guess I've found a long winded way of saying that a good playing pro will shoot a better score than a good am on any course but not significantly over 18 holes. Shot dispersion, distance control and a general higher short game ability will enable the pro to navigate and avoid many of the issues less well manicured courses provide.
  15. I played West Lothian many years ago with some friends as they had a practice round for their PGA playability test. Really enjoyed the course and intend to go back there. I remember some very tight holes and one I think think mid back 9 that had a cliff face to hit over to a green.
