  1. I currently wear the UA Cool Switch. But they're discontinued, not especially durable, and I'm on my last one. Tried the Iso-Chill (the successor), but didn't like it as much and it was even less durable -- ripped after about two rounds and a couple range sessions. What should I try next? Here's my problem: I'm a lefty (so a right-hand glove) and size XL. Do my fellow lefties have any suggestions for trying things on? Dick's might have two options if I'm lucky, or if I drive all the way across town to Golf Galaxy I might find 5 or 6 options. (I'd be all for giving Kirkland a try, but they don't offer a right hand glove.)
  2. You're going to have a heck of a time finding any cart in stock, but when things settle down here's another vote for the reconditioned Clicgear 3.5+. Got mine last year, looks and works as good as new.
  3. What got me to switch to a push cart were three magic words: "Cart Path Only." I used to ride most of the time, but playing cart path only is probably my second least favorite thing in golf. (My least favorite thing is being unable to find a ball that was only a few yards offline.) When it's cart path only, you end up walking just as much as if you had no cart at all -- but only horizontally across the fairway -- and all that back-and-forth slows down play horribly. My "home" course is built in a flood plain and thus doesn't drain very well, making CPO all too frequent, and I would rather carry my bag on my back than deal with CPO. I found that I enjoyed walking the course, so I switched to a push cart (Clicgear 3.5+) to get the bag off my back and haven't looked back. Now I'll walk even if the course is dry. Walking means I always have my entire bag with me if I change my mind on club selection, and it's easier to find a ball in the rough (or trees) when I can walk along the same line the ball flew.
  4. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to game the Forged Tec. I have a similarly high handicap (but improving) and in my recent fitting I hit both the Callaway Apex and the Forged Tec noticeably better than any of the game-improvement models I tried (T300, 919 Hot Metal, Z585, SIM Max, G410, Mavrik). The Apex was just marginally better for me, but the gap between Apex and Forged Tec was smaller than the gap to whichever one was 3rd place. A slightly smaller head and less offset doesn't mean the club can't still be quite forgiving on off-center strikes. One advantage to a forged iron that might be worth considering is that if your swing changes as you improve, it's easier to adjust loft and lie than for a cast iron.
  5. I just finished a full bag fitting at Club Champion, my first "big boy" fitting since taking up golf 5-6 years ago. It cost an arm and a leg, but the experience was great and I am anxiously awaiting my new clubs. The surprising thing is that I'm a 21 handicap (albeit improving), yet pretty much everything I was fit for would typically be considered more of a players (or players distance) club. But there was no denying the numbers; I hit them better than any of the game improvement stuff I tried, and I tried a lot. I ended up with: Ping G410 LST driver Callaway Apex 19 hybrids, 2H-4H (though I didn't get to try the Ping G410 because I'm lefty and they didn't have one) Callaway Apex 19 irons, 5i-AW (and the Cobra King Forged Tec was a very close second) Titleist Vokey SM8 wedges, a 54-10S and a 60-8M bent to 58°. (No fairway wood because I can't hit one to save my life, and no putter they had was better than my Evnroll.) Has anyone else had a similar, "I'm not worthy," experience? I know plenty of good golfers play game improvement clubs either to add distance or because they're so easy to hit, but the other way around is usually associated with hackers who, say, pick up blades because that's what Tiger plays.
  6. Hello, all. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? About 6 years since I first swung a club, but I only played about six rounds total in the first two years. Handicap 21.2 and falling. What do you love about golf? I've come to appreciate that it's something I can do by myself. Not that I prefer it -- quite the opposite -- but with my other sports (ultimate and basketball) if there aren't a several others who are free to play, then I'm not playing no matter how much I might want to. (To say nothing of virus restrictions.) What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? Best, most in-depth coverage on the net. Been reading for 2-3 years. Don't know anyone else. Where are you from? What is your home course? Cary, NC. Unofficially, my "home" course is Lochmere Golf Club. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best: I can play year round, and Southern Pines/Pinehurst is only an hour and change away. Worst: In the winter, the grass is brown and dormant and the clay soil (everywhere except Southern Pines) drains really poorly. What do you do for a living? Software engineer How’d you pick your user name? My school and a piece of equipment I used to carry on Saturdays.
