    PXG offers previous releases at a discounted price. They currently have both Gen3 and Gen4 for purchase. They had gen2 for awhile til they were out of inventory. It will be the same when gen 5 releases. Gen3 will be around as long as they have inventory, there will eventually be a price reduction on gen4

    Now take Spieth, Rickie and Rory. Three phenomenal talents. Three guys who have struggled of late.

    Life is complicated, it’s layered and it’s also deeper than what we see a few hours a week on TV. Life, kids and marriage are some of the most significant life events any of us will experience. I’d put my consideration into that more than anything else. 

    Rory has always had an issue with getting stuck but it’s something many good golfers deal with including tiger, but he’s had a ball of fame career already with his swing and still has plenty of time to do more great things on tour. 

    Like you said he’s in a different place than he was 5 years ago. Priorities have changed. Focus isn’t always where it should be. 

  3. Torque affect feel for the golfer. Lower torque could potentially feel boardier than higher torque but EI profile will also have a role. Example hzrdus smoke green and a 3.2 torque and hzrdus smoke black has 3.5 but the black feels worse than the green.

    As for launch and such torque in of itself isn’t going to impact per se. The EI profile, weight of the shaft will affect the weight and feel of the club. This will play a role in how the golfer swings and delivers the club, which will be what influences what the launch/ball flight characteristics. I’ve mentioned before that I and 7 others of varying swing speed have swung a stiff flex shaft with a torque of 2.1 that moved like a noodle in the swing.  Picking a shaft based solely on torque is low on the metric one should use.

    I just got back from the Vendor fitting appointment.  It ended up being driver only.  45 minutes wasn't long enough for both.   It was not a great experience.    First, he wasn't set up yet.  I was his first appointment so it's understandable.   He had trouble setting up Trackman 4 in the hitting bay so we needed help from the in store fitter.  

    He wasn't interested in seeing how I do with my current driver.  Red flag #1.    I asked him, I would like to hit my driver first.  He agreed it's a good idea.   I noticed that the spin #s in italic, he said it's OK.  Red flag #2.  I insisted and the store staff pulled out RCT's from the drawer in the bay and we were off again.   I wanted to see dispersion data, he couldn't figure it out, Red flag #3.  After hitting my driver, he handed my Rogue ST MAX with a shaft weight similar to mine which is good.  He told me that this head is similar to my Mavrik head.   I noticed that he hasn't tag this as a new driver in trackman which would be needed to do comparison.  Surprised, he couldn't figure it out.   Red flag #4.  I gave up on the fitting and decided to just test out heads in default setting.    

    Rogue ST MAX was a very forgiving (at least in terms of left to right dispersion).  It seemed just as long as the Mavrik, but I was starting it out straighter and drawing it less.   There appear to be fewer blocked shots to the right which i hate.    I'm not really sure if I hit it that much better than the Mavrik since the fitter couldn't figure out comparison feature of Trackman software.  Duh....   Another big thing I noticed was how the Rogue ST Max sat.  When I sit my Mavrik down, it naturally rotates open (maybe 3 deg?) quite a bit so I have to be sure to hold it square and not let it rest on the ground.  Rogue ST Max sat very square on its own.   I asked the vendor fitter to put my current shaft in the Rogue ST MAX head and results were even better.   I should really see if I can try this head in a proper fitting environment.

    Rogue ST MAX LS resulted in too many knuckle dives along with some bombs.  It felt significantly less forgiving too me.   I would have love to played around with loft and shaft choices, but we were out of time.  

     

     

     

    Personal preference is to be hitting outdoors or at least from inside a bag to outdoors. Indoor fittings aren’t optimal imo. You don’t get any idea of actually ball flight and it solely has to be the numbers one relies on which for some may not register like peak height and descent angle or launch and how it translates into the ball flight.

    This is the problem with any OEM demo day fittings. You have to rely on how good the rep is to get a good fitting. Unless one is familiar with the rep from past experience it’s going to be a crap shoot. There are several brands here who have had suspect qualified demo day reps, and some brands who do a good job promoting within you may have a good demo day rep one year and not so good the next. What I’ve noticed in this area is the sales reps have been doing less and less of the demo days and relying on their staff to do them.

    The changes aren’t due to loft differences because they stayed the same from release to release. The design and technology changed. 
     

    PXG puts a lot of information on their site that for some reason many people don’t go look at before they make comments about the brand, then again that applies for most brands depending on the conversation.

    Agree that there probably isn't much difference between each release.  It is kind of odd to see PXG doing that at this price point, every other manufacturer has a 2 year or more cycle on all their irons except TM, Callaway, & Cobra and for those it's usually only their GI line.

    Gen4s will drop when gen5 release. What will be interesting to see if they drop gen2 and 3 as well

    There have been changes in feel and sound each release. Launch, spin, ball speed have had noticeable changes each release too.

    That’s a course and/or course employee who doesn’t care about their customer. I’ve never been to a demo day where the rep or staff got in the way of a fitting. 

  8. 45 minutes for iron and driver probably isn’t enough time for a good fitting for both. My last driver fitting was just under 45 mins, we got my setup dialed in pretty quick on the head and loft, that was the first 15mins. The next 20-25 minutes we’re spent on fine tuning with shafts and adapter settings. We got it down to three shafts using 5 shots each and 3-5 with each setting. We spent time going back and forth on them before nailing down the right combo. 
     

    My last iron fitting was 30 mins.

    Typically with an OEM fitting day with an appointment you are going to get the ful focus of the rep rather than where he’s dealing with several golfers at a time just hitting clubs and asking questions. The rep will have all the heads offered at retail plus most if not all the stock and upgrade shafts they offer. They will go thru a fitting process with you to find the head, shaft and adapter setting that optimizes your ball flight.

    For irons the rep will also have all heads in varying lie angles and all shafts. They will get you in the right iron head, lie angle and shaft that optimizes your iron ball flight.

  9. Was doing some loft comparisons across Srixon and Mizuno and looking at my miura cb301s.

    Mizuno 223, 225 and 921 forged, Srixon zx5 and zx7 were compared to the miuras.

    In 4-p they are all within 2* of loft with a couple being 2*
     

    It’s been 2 years since I looked at the miura lofts and forgot the pw is 44°

    The chances Srixon went after him is pretty low. Even though they fall under a large rubber company their golf budget for tour isn’t that high. The money or like have cost them probably isn’t worth the benefit in the long run. They would rather pay more people ball and glove deals than large sums of money for drivers and irons. Not to mention they just signed Koepka.

    Hes been a free agent since turning pro and has been using TaylorMade for a little while. From his standpoint it makes sense to stay with what is working and not have to try new gear and get it all figured out while playing the meat of the pga season

  12. $1300 for a 1 of 1 putter I’m using the possibility of a tour only putter has been on my mind all day. Hard to resist having 1 of 1 equipment. When you think of prices for tour equipment this really is cheap.

    A tour driver head is $700-800 dollars with no shaft. Here you are getting a fitting plus fully customized putter. It’s hard resisting this especially as somewhat of a a putter ho

    One thing I really noticed was swing weight and grip.  The i525's felt light and now that I've moved to midsize, the standard grips feel WAY small. I used my SC200 to capture data and despite the i525's being slightly stronger loft, the 7i carry distances were very close - the ZX5's a mere yard longer.  The PING's sound really good but I could feel mishits into my hands whereas I don't with the Srixon's.  On well struck shots both sound good but the ZX5's are less offensive on mishits.  PING set out to address the negative feedback on the i500's pertaining to sound and I think they have done just that.

    As you can see, the i525's have a much more radiused top line which helps make them appear thinner.  The offset is close but I might give the nod to the PING's as being a whisker less. The new badging on the i525's is, IMHO, better... but I still love the look of the ZX5's much more.

    Whoda thunk you'd ever hear that from me? 😆

    Does the sc200 show spin and launch? If so what where they compared to the zx5?

    I have always like the look of PXG irons, but these are....something else.  Not sure why they felt the need to use the different colors for heel and toe but it isn't exactly pleasing to the eye.  I wonder if they will let you order them with matching colors?  I think these would be OK if they just had the normal matching heel/toe with opposite colored screws.

    I actually like this setup, especially the black elite 

  15. You need to get on a launch monitor and see what the numbers show and analyze to see if what’s happening. Or could be spin issues, launch, combination of both. Something else. Just saying one goes a certain distance with not supporting data or even a swing to see if maybe you are delivering the club incorrectly for the 3w doesn’t give anyone any information to help

    It’s a steal actually. Iirc a fitting at the scotty Cameron gallery was $500 and that go towards the purchase of a putter. You don’t get a fully customized putter out of it and you are going to pay at least $2500 minus the fitting fee for a circle t putter.

    Yes everything is going to be individualized in results. Weight change, the balance of the club can affect how one delivers a club which will impact results good or bad. It’s one of the reasons you see some golfers have success with shaft x then when they put it in a different head or new version of the one they are using it doesn’t always work. 
     

    The way a club looks does affect how a golfer swings and this affecting performance. This was something my titleist fitter wanted to test after my 917 fitting. Once we had everything dialed in he asked if I was up to hitting some more shots as he wanted to test some settings and see the results and I was the last appointment for the day. He adjust lie and loft a couple times and based on how the club sat I manipulated my swing from the swing I was using and the results from the setup were bad.

    Please go read wishon’s shaft myths on wrx and also the nice thread that Howard did. Shafts have two roles. Weight and feel. They play a role in how the golfer swings, the golfers swing determines how the club is delivered. 
     

    Your last statement is the only thing that is accurate in your statement in relation to woods/hybrids. Getting the right loft so that one is in the right launch window is how predominately all fitters start and then use the shaft to fine tune, but it’s the head and contact point along with face and path relationship that will determine start point, spin, launch and movement of the ball

    No unfortunately no local shop... that's why I am trying to figure it out by asking on this forum.

    Does anyone know if the Tour Edge E722 face angle changes when you adjust the loft on the hosel (like the M3)?

    EDIT: ok so just read about how the loft adjustments ACTUALLY works and now I have no idea. 

    This is why none of us can give you any specifics on what shaft will work for you or what driver or driver setting. 
     

    You need a setup that delivers more loft at impact. Whether that’s with a new or new to you driver with more loft or a shaft profile that helps you deliver more loft. And finding a shaft can get expensive 

    This might be of use to you but again none of us can tell you which specific shaft will best fit your swing or if it will change how your current driver will perform for you with the shaft.

Lie offers N is neutral and D for Draw. There of course the additional weight adjustments as well to alter swing weight.

    From what I have read Callaway has one on the best adjustable adaptors.

    It’s not so much a lie issue as it is face angle. As the OP mentioned and cnosil stated when you change loft it’s going to change the face angle. More loft will close the face and less loft will open it. 
     

    People like the Callaway adapter because it’s ease of use but titleist adapter is or has been just as good. People just don’t like because it’s not as intuitive to use however there is a chart that titleist provides for how to make the adjustments and it tells you exactly how many degrees of change in loft and lie one will get with each adjustment
