This is really well said. I seriously select when I submit my name in for a testing opportunity. I choose what I feel comfortable with testing. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time testing something that isn’t suitable to my abilities. I tend to lean towards putters and technology for example. I’m interested in trying shafts but I don’t feel I have skills needed to properly evaluate them at this point. In my time in the forum and reading other’s posts I get the impression most feel this way. There is also a give back to the community feeling among those testing. There is a sour grapes quality to the comments of flyingwedges.

Wow, the more things change, the more they stay the same 🙂
Feels like deja vu all over again and I'm getting PTSD from picking testers a couple years ago just from reading all this.
My only advice is saying please don't sweat it to our current mods.  You guys are doing a fantastic job and there will always be posters who just don't get the MGS vibe and goals of the forum.  Keep up the great work!

I attended a Wilson demo day yesterday just to see and hit the D9 forged.  My first impression, WOWIE, ZOWIE !!!
Indoor Trackman simulator, so take it for what it's worth.  Beautiful looking to boot.
For context, I should share that I just purchased new PXG 0211 DC irons over the winter, so I probably should not have even gone.   Hitting them side by side, 7 iron only of course, the Wilson's won on distance and feel.  Forgiveness was neck and neck.  All close to be sure, but Wilson had the edge.
I gamed the C200's for a few years, just really loved them, but they no longer match my swing.  I have a buddy trying them out right now who has been struggling with his iron play for years, and so far, he is gushing about what he's seen so far.
Suffice it to say, I'm trying to figure out how I can convince my wife that I need to get rid of my new clubs, and buy new, new clubs.  Fat chance of that happening.
Is it bad form to nominate myself to be an official tester (if one comes out) for these irons?  I know my specs from the demo day, so it would be an easy order.  Just saying.
Of course it is bad form, but let's just call it "campaigning".   That way I can assuage my guilt, and make it sound better.
    Would that be fair  ??????

Genius idea with the hinge/protractor. I managed to find a 48" steel ruler in the UK:
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302407774579?hash=item4668e87173:g:zBkAAOSwsgZdF1WZ
    Tad expensive at £28 though. . .

Do you need to change the lie angle when measuring woods or hybrids or do you stick with the consistent 60 degrees all the time? Looks like a simple, effective tool to have! Thanks!

Whenever I do them for people, I have them there with me. I put it in straight to my eye and then lay the flat part of the grip on a flat surface to check the angle. Everyone's eyes are different, so as long as the person likes the way it's set up, there's no complaints.
As far as manufacturing tolerances, I've seen more than a few grips come from the factory that were significantly off center.

Taking these out again tomorow.  Temps are supposed to be in the 70’s.  So I should get a better “feel” for them.

    Hello all!
We are slowly getting closer to testing season (no I don’t have any inside information …. Right now). With that there has been a lot of work going on in the background to enhance the site and bring some improvements to the site.
In this thread I will let you know all what is going on when we are getting close or about to launch any new features, structure and more.
Without further delay the first update we are bringing to the membership is actually a older feature which ended up on the cutting room floor, but is bring brought back to life by popular demand.
    The Community Map!
    What is this?
    - The community map is a feature we had years ago and it’s pretty simple. It is a map of the world where you can tag your location and where you are located.
    Why now?
Well the long and the short of it is I was able to get approval to purchase it and again it is a feature that has been asked for time and time again.
Another key feature we are working on is Community engagement… I know we hear this all the time, but this is all part of a bigger plan to increase get togethers, events and a phenomenal community not just online, but in person as well.
What can we do with it?
This is a bit different than the older member map which has been renamed to Community Map. Again you can tag your location (home) so other spies can see who is all living in your area.
We are also introducing a secondary function within this single application which is course reviews. It is pretty simple, have a course you want to write a review for? Go into the “create” go down to Community Map Marker and Select Course Review.
From there find it on the map, mark it, add in the course name, a brief description and hit submit. It is after this that you are able to write your review on the course (unless it has already been created) and you can grade it out of your 5 stars however you like.
We are also incorporating (at a later date) some of the player profile features (if you have it filled out) where when hovering over the player you can see their player profile data.
    Where is the Map Located?
Well you can find the map here: https://forum.mygolfspy.com/communitymap/
Or simply go the the “Members” Tab at the top of any page and when the drop down comes you will find “Community Map”
This was a very useful tool in the past in getting members together and creating a community that is more than just a forum.
The great thing is it is also optional. Don’t want to take part? No requirement for testing or profile completion or any of that. This feature is there for you to use as you wish. Whether it is to check out course reviews, write your own on a course that has a review or doesn’t or seeing what spys are in your area which you may want to get a game in with this feature will allow you to do that.
This is only the beginning and we have a lot more in store to bring you in the near(ish) future.
    Cheers,
    Jamie

golfworks sells build up tape that has the same thickness as the double sided stuff.  I prefer it since it's less layers to add and it's cheaper/easier to work with than the double sided stuff

So I've been fortunate enough to have had 2 testing opportunities for MGS and both have worked out really well. I saw that you mention the "star" rankings on the reviews. Is this something new? Is there a way to see what ranking our reviews got? I checked my profile and older threads, but couldn't find anything. Having feedback from the MODs on what they would like to see or what they think we can improve upon as testers would be great!

Want to make your own review on a product and follow our testing template? This is a generic template to follow, however uses the same star rating system that any of the "official reviews" will have for this season and moving forward. (half stars are okay as well). The generic template gives you the opportunity to be a little more creative while following the same general template we will use for any and all official tests.
Here it is: Member Review Testing Template

Please please use the search function before creating a new thread as many of these products/reviews can be posted into existing threads. We can add in a front end message like this one to the top of the thread linking your review to make it more visible on request as well. This helps us keep the forum cleaner and without too many repeating threads.
Have more questions? Reach out to myself @GolfSpy_APH or any of the other mods.

Testing is always a wonderful opportunity and will say that it often gives you an opportunity to work on certain areas of your game based off what you're testing. Really lean on your other testers because they become your "teammates" during testing.

So in short there was a LOT going on with CC5 and we did our best on our end, but unfortunately it sadly didn't pan out. Nothing to do with MGS or the testers, sadly we had several that didn't end up with their clubs. As mods we worked really hard behind the scenes, created a full competition and more.
As for the suggestion of getting it started early, I think that leads to another topic. As mods we run the tests, we select the testers, however we do not decide on what items or products are tested or when. This is up to MGS main site and their contacts with OEMs. As mods and a community we can try and have certain products tested (there is a whole thread on what you want to see tested), but outside of that we follow our direction from MGS Main site and do our work!
As far as I know the testing schedule is still being worked on and completed sometime in the next month or so. After that we (mods and community) await to see what item hits first for testing and let the season begin.
So yes we would love to see another Cobra Connect we at this time do not know if it will happen again. We hope it will as it is a huge draw to the site and a lot of fun for the membership, but who knows? As for Bushnell GC3, yeah that is on the wish list, however I think it is a long shot to see this as a tested item... but you never know.

The star ratings have to do with the reviews system itself which we changed to this last year. As for you personal review scores, as mentioned they won't be public for a variety of reasons. That being said, as mentioned before, we do grade reviews and can give some feedback via PM. Again it is hard for me to get into specifics without reading your prior reviews. I don't mind letting anyone know what they were scored, but can only provide limited insight at this time unless they were working on a review where I was the lead mod last season.
I think it should also be noted that it isn't necessarily what we want to see as a Mod. Our template lays it all out and the previous mods who had created it and even though it has been tweaked or adapted over the years the core of it is the same. The review is part of it, the discussion in the threads is a big part, the follow up after is noted and so on. Review grades aren't a personal I liked that review or I didn't like this one as much we cover off our basics and score them. It doesn't have to have perfect english. It is nice when it does, but we aren't journalists or writers and some have strengths in other areas, such as photos or media or just engagement with other members.
Finally we have adapted the review templates a bit (still needing to add in player profiles now) and we are striving to create ways for members to be more creative and add a bit of their own twist to reviews.

Thanks @GolfSpy_APH for writing this up and sharing with everyone.  This only helps be more clear on the process and the work that goes down so that we on this forum have the best product reviews/testing around.  Having this update posted and all the new equipment releases is starting to get me really excited for the 2022 season.  I hope that everyone has a chance to read through this.
I know we're all hoping to have less supply chain disruption this year and hopefully with some of the updated we've made and are making the testing platform will run much smoother in 2022.
