  1. I tried it and compared it to a Maxfli Tour S. I did not like the Speedsoft. Did not feel soft when compared to the Maxfli using a 7 iron.
  2. I've been testing the Tour S against the Chrome Soft for the last couple weeks. Even played a couple rounds with the Tour S in early January in Palm Springs. I have some Maxfli Tour (prior version) and the Tour S does not have the same feel so it appears to be a different configuration. I've found the performance of the Tour S and Chrome Soft to be almost identical. I don't feel like the Tour S competes with the AVX because it seems to fly just as high as the CS and the AVX is a lower ball flight. I'm also getting similar spin to the CS and the feel off the putter is very, very close... CS seems to be just slightly softer. I'd have to guess that the compression of the Tour S is around 80. I need to play a few more rounds with it to see if I can replace the CS in the bag. Headed back to Palm Springs in just over a week and I'll get a chance to test it outside in good conditions.
  3. $ 34.99 is Hero's pricing. Got mine for 34.99 - 3 dozen... no shipping fee.
  4. Except for the fact that no one is limited to two dozen per order except Snell?
  5. The prior version ball is $ 35, but they raised the price for the new (2022) ball to $ 39.99. I'm testing it right now and it just might be a very good ball when you compare the quality of the build compared to other tour balls. I've seen some reviews where it compares very favorably to more expensive tour balls. So if you're ready to play a $ 50 tour ball, you may be able to save yourself some money on the TR. I do agree that the Snell, OnCore, and Vice balls are better values; however, if you look at the compression for these, you might end up selecting the TR since it is a softer feeling ball. Vice Pro Soft might be a good comparison, but again, the Vice Pro Soft is more of an AVX competitor instead of the TR.
  6. I would argue that the Maxfli Tour is NOT "something less than the ProV1". I'd actually say, it's something more than the ProV1 having played them both. However, they are both higher compression than the TM Response, which may be a deciding factor for some.
  7. Yes, I saw that too, but it really didn't surprise me. Was it a good ball? Absolutely, but I guess I was expecting something more. I really thought I would see better performance hitting into the green, but my swing speed is probably not fast enough to see a difference. I really had trouble with distance control on the green when putting. The feel was just not there for me. Personally, I think the Maxfli Tour (my previous gamer) was much easier to judge distance. I did a little putting comparison with the Maxfli Tour and the e12 and I found them very, very close when it came to distance control.
  8. Further comparisons with the Tour Speed left me unimpressed. I didn't see any performance benefit over the e12 Contact, which is my current gamer. It's a good ball and I could certainly play it, but I found the e12 gave me more distance without giving up any performance when hitting into the green. Putting was pretty neutral but I'm probably used to the e12 so it's hard to judge between the two.
  9. Do a little comparison with the Tour Speed and the e12 Contact. Of course, one is urethane covered and the other some composite, but just wanted to see how they performed chipping and putting. Tour Speed had a softer feel and seemed to be easier to putt with. Ended up closer to the hole. Don't really know what to make of that other than it just seemed easier to judge how hard to hit it. When it came to chipping, I really liked the way it reacted when landing on the green. Even out of the rough, it seemed a little easier to control distance. I'm going to put it in play on my next round in a couple days. That will be the real test.
  10. FWIW, I played a round with the Tour Response and found it not as good as the e12 Contact. The e12 was longer off the driver, longer with the irons, and did a very good job when hitting approach shots into the green. The only edge I would give to the TR was off the putter. The e12 seems to require a softer putt to go the same distance as the TR. I found it a little easier to control distance when putting with the TR, but nothing I couldn't overcome with a little practice.
  11. Still no response from Srixon? Do they not care that their mid level ball got such a bad review? I'd assume that from the number of balls that were bad that they essentially don't have any QC reviewing what comes out of Indonesia.
  12. Perhaps I'm not that good a golfer that I can play a different ball without suffering missed shots. The area where I feel I would lose some strokes is chipping and pitching. This is a very important part of my game - the last round I had 6 up and downs - so if I don't feel that the ball will perform as I expect, then it will cost me shots. I guess it comes down to a confidence thing.
  13. Just got through comparing the Bridgestone Tour B X to the Snell MTB-X (which I've played for the last 3-4 months). With the drop in price of the Bridgestone balls, I figured I'd buy a dozen B X and play a couple rounds with them. Here is my evaluation. Driver - Distance wise, very close. Feel wise, edge to MTB-X. Does not feel as harsh off the driver. Also seems to launch a little higher. Irons - Edge to MTB-X for feel and distance. Wedges - Edge to MTB-X for feel and launch angle. Just seems to launch a little higher. Both seem to check up about the same. Putter - Pretty equal. Like the feel of both. I could play the B X, but my scores would probably be lower. I'm back with the MTB-X and feel very good about my choice.
  14. Does this also depend on swing speed? The faster the swing, then the less time the ball will be in contact with the face. Someone would have to measure how long the ball is in contact with the face to validate whether this could affect the trajectory.
  15. I will quietly mention that I'm playing the TE EXS driver and absolutely love it. Quietly because I don't want any my golfing buddies to buy it. I was previously playing the Callaway Rogue Draw, but the EXS is easier to hit, longer, and gives me equal or better distance. I've tried going back to the Rogue, but it just doesn't deliver like the EXS does. And it's hundreds less than the big OEM'S drivers...
  16. Welcome back. I took off 30 years before I got back into golf and I was terrible when I gave it up. I didn't start again till I turned 67 and I'm 71 now. If you're retiring then you should have lots of practice time. That's what I did... practice, practice, practice. And there's lots of videos to explain how to improve your game unlike before the 90's. I think a good set of game improvement irons will go a long way and there are various online retailers that sell used equipment... 2nd Swing comes to mind. You can probably also find some used equipment at Golf Galaxy and other brick and mortar stores... just ask. The key is to keep your expectations low and just enjoy the ride. Golf is one of those sports that looks so easy, yet can be so complicated. If you were shooting in the 80's before, it shouldn't take you long to get back there as long as you are willing to put in the time. BTW, I took 30 years off because I coached youth soccer for 30 years and didn't have the time to golf. Now I wish I would have kept playing in spite of my poor skills back then.
  17. I think you might get more interest, at least from my perspective, if you compared some of the big boys with the DTC (direct-to-consumer) brands like, Snell, Vice, Oncore, Pearl, Cut, etc. In my own comparisons, I really like the feel of the Oncore Elixir, but found that I lose distance with it compared to the Bridgestone Tour B RX. However, the Snell MTB-Black and Vice Pro are very similar to the RX and quite a bit cheaper. Currently, I'm still playing the RX, but will do more comparisons with the Vice Pro and Snell Black before finalizing my choice as my gamer.
  18. Going to compare the Oncore Elixir, Vice Pro, and Tour B RX tomorrow during my round. Won't be able to test extensively, but I do plan to hit some comparative shots to see how they perform. I've been playing the Vice Pro the last few rounds and really like it, and I've played the Tour B RX for the last year. Thus far, I've only had a change to hit the Elixir indoors and it definitely feels softer than Vice Pro and RX, and I've also noticed that it runs out a little more on putts. How it performs on the course may be a completely different game.
  19. I too switch from the MTB Black to the Vice Pro after playing the Vice Pro for a couple of rounds. Call it a feel thing, but more importantly, I feel like I'm getting more consistent play out of the Vice Pro. Not too firm and not too soft. Really like the feedback off the putter. Also, not quite as clicky as the MTB Black. Both are good balls, but the Vice Pro just seems to fit my game a little better.
  20. Still waiting for my order of the Elixir to be delivered. I could tell if you were happy with the Elixir of not? I played 18 with the Vice Pro and was more than happy with the results. Consistency off the driver was very good and liked the way it performed on approach shots. Putting was extremely good.
  21. I really liked the results of the Oncore Elixir for my particular SS and swing characteristics, so I ordered 3 dozen on April 29th. I got a ship notice on May 1 with tracking info. Checked the tracking info and they don't get delivered until May 9th? I thought that was an unusually long time since their shipping charges (no matter what you order) is $ 8.95. I figured this would be like 2 or 3 day delivery. I decided to give them some feedback today regarding adding the shipping information and perhaps an alternative expedited shipping option, so I email them. I got a reply back within a few minutes and they refunded the shipping cost and said they had some problems with shipping my order out. I'd call that just adequate customer service, because they didn't really address my concern about using Fedex Smartpost or adding an expedited shipping option, even if it costs more. Nevertheless, I'm excited to try the Elixir and will report back when I get them out on the course. Currently, I started playing the Vice Pro and really like the way it plays and feels, especially, off the putter. Distance wise and performance wise it's very close to the Bridgestone Tour B RX and Snell MTB Black. I probably could not tell the difference in a blind test. The difference to me is putting where it seems to roll just a little further with the same effort than the other two.
  22. Well, I tried the Tour B X and it feels a little too firm for me. Played the Vice Pro today and it felt and played very well. Unfortunately, the driver was not working for me, but everything else seemed pretty good.
  23. As did I. At $ 25 a dozen, I couldn't go wrong. Special promotion.
  24. What ball would you play if you were in the 90 mph range with a driver?
