I've actually got the shafts now. I first played them in a set of Cleveland TA-1 MB's, then in a set of Callaway RAZR X MB's, and finally in my prior OG TS1's. They were upgrade shafts for quite a few pro model type irons from the 60's through mid 2k's.  It's a company that isn't in business any more but you can find uncut tour truck sets around the web if you know what you're looking for.

It's a company called Royal Precision..I think they were maybe bought out by TT/Project X in the mid 2k's but discontinued the process of these particular shafts because of the cost and labor involved in making them. These are the FCM Rifle 6.5's. Not to be confused or associated with PX 6.5 rebar shafts. These things are absolute butter but extremely stable and consistent.

If anybody likes historical, low production videos with generic 80's jazz music in the background, here's a rabbit hole find for ya 😜

I loved my 6.5 rifle driver shaft, it was in a Golfsmith XPC driver. The original graphite Rifle shafts were great too.

  2. I had the XII, never wanted a putter more than that one. Loved everything about it and couldn't make solid contact to save me. Lol changed grips, added weight just couldn't stop hitting it on the toe.

I still recommend it to people and no one has complained

If youre having GW assemble them, use their shafts. Just request a shaft with a similar profile to the project x. Give them a call.

Also dont underestimate your ability to diy. They have lots of guides and really all you need is a pipe cutter, measuring tape, a ferrule and some epoxy and to follow instructions. Just request a low-mid launch shaft tour weight, or the project X. They will suggest the KBS tour 120 or the DG originals and that isnt much of a price change. You just wanna avoid high launch shafts like the scor or multistep.

The new MultiStep is nothing like the old one. They really should given it a different name because it is not a high launch shaft now and is much lighter. It could be a good idea to try one out.

@vandyland I don't have anything to offer you in return, but I am interested in what you think of the FST 125 shaft you have in your demo TS3?  I am having difficulty committing to a full set of irons with the Project X 6.0. @Popeye64 mentioned the FST as an option and I have been trying research it but have only found scant information. However, at less than 1/3 the price of of the Project X I am seriously considering it. I think the launch profile of the TT Score is too high for me but the FST has some potential.

I have had good luck with the Apollo Spectre shafts as a low cost alternative. Very similar to the DG105 flight wise and weight. The issue is weight tolerance. I ordered 7 shafts and while 5 were within a 1\10th of a gram, the other two were a few grams out of spec.

  5. I think most of the engineering is done by the foundry, either on their own or at the prodding of the club company. Golfsmith was selling C455 steel faced fairways 20 years ago. Now TM does it and it’s some sort of revaluation.
I just tried out the Ram FX77 which is similar to several club heads and performed as well as an iron can. A little short on toe ward shots compared to the Maltby KE4 Tour+ but most irons aren’t as forgiving as the Maltby is.

just order the 5 dozen of MTB black haven't played them in a couple of years, hopefully they hold up seems some people had some issues with the cover. I will let you guys know how it goes

The cover issue seems to be fixed. He was selling the older balls at a big discount with the warning about the cover.

  7. The new version is quite different from the previous model. So far I have only seen it listed at Golfworks and it is 99-98g weight and much lower launching than the original. I have it in a Maltby DBM 5 iron and it produces a lower flight with excellent spin numbers. I usually play DG105 S300 and it fits well with that shaft.

I’ve not had the chance to test the TS3 7 iron much because I am trying to dial in a set of clubs I already own before I chuck them all for the Maltbys, BUT I did test the Maltby today on two par 3 (playing 154 and 162), and I put both 10 yards left of the pin and even or just past.  Very impressive since GIR is the aspect I am trying to improve right now.  It is very easy to hit, has excellent turf interaction, and feels very soft at impact.

I went R+ (split the difference between S & R tips) and liked it a lot - again, just a tad too heavy for my taste.  But I'm pretty sure you could go beyond Stiff to X, or maybe S+?

According to Jim Y, the Score cannot be cut to a true X.

    I am beyond intrigued.

Good info, Golfworks has so many good offerings it’s dang hard to choose. Lol

I believe those are now the Apollo Stepless. Great shafts for the money. Apollo branched out to create True Temper when it was UK based. I was using the apollos stepless in my ke4 Max set but gave them to my nephew as he picked up golf and paired them with the Dynacraft Prophet MB. Like them in wedges as well. Very similar to my DG s300 I re-installed in my set regarding trajectory/feel but a bit lighter.

Could be the same, the numbers are similar except the Score came with Sensicore.

I have been playing with a Maltby KE4 Tour driver for 3 years--hits great with a solid feel and sound--nothing else can beat it.

Just finished making the Maltby ST-i2 iron set #5-Gap heads.  Made with "soft" 431 stainless steel--so I was able to bend these heads 2 degrees flat without any trouble using my 35 year old Golfworks loft/lie machine.

Love to hear how they play for you.

Did you have the MOI tested?  This design certainly looks to have nailed a low VCG (vertical center of gravity) and a longer blade length (measured by HCG from centerline of shaft), however, maybe its MOI is low.

Maybe there is a reason Ralph never designed a club like this🤔

The Scor shafts are made by True Temper and were previously known as dynalite. They were in lots of clubs stock 2013-2016

The Score is similar to the original Dynalite but isn’t as stiff overall and is lighter if I am remembering Jim Y’s comments from years ago correctly. I wish they could have continued the original Score shaft which was stepless and had a mid bend.

  14. I played my first round with a new set of TE irons with the NV85 shafts. Full shots were very good everything else not so much. I’m thinking I will drop the PW and GW and carry my KE4 Tour* GW. The Tour+ has a DG SL X100 8 iron shaft and I have a lot of confidence in that club.

also noticed your name was deep red... Those are my backup set.... Gems

The wide shaft and low and short hosel worked so well. Curious if they plan to bring back the fat shaft since they are in throwback mode with dynapower

The fat shaft was tech that delivered, but as often happens in golf it didn’t sell as well as it needed to. The Deep Red was developed into the Tour which led to the Pi5 another very underrated club.

Here is my current set of irons, the ke4 Max 5-8 and the Ts3 9,pw

Then it goes to a honma 48 and some wilson staff wedges. I Used Maltby Max wedges but changed from 52/58 to 54/60 wilson staff wedges. I attached a pic of the ke4 max and maltby max prior to adding ts3 clubs

Also attached is the Hyway 7 wood which is super easy to hit.

And a Maltby Black Japan Milled putter with unique insert.

I love the ke4max/ts3 mixed set and almost every Maltby item ive tried.
