Had “Chamber of Commerce” South TX weather for a leisurely Sunday round with my dad. The green surface situation at our club this season has been like trying to putt through peanut butter and I’ve cycled through ~20 wands trying to find something that works without much success. With the temps dropping the past couple weeks and the Super subsequently dropping the mower reels, I have finally begun to roll in some proper putts with the old faithful Bobby Grace M5K-GT TC. Less than stellar ball striking day (3/14 FWY, 15/18 GIR, 29 PUTTS) that included (6) birdies. Started out par, bogey, birdie and then made a very sloppy bogey on the short par 5 4th but the putter was showing definite signs of life. Bagged a fat turkey on 5/6/7 with 3 straight 30+ foot bombs (walked each dead in middle the last 10 feet). Played clean all the way to the house with a few clutch saves, missing only one green and adding 2 more birds on the back nine par 5s. The last on 18, a forty footer for a big bald bird that stopped dead on the left edge. Tap-in for 67 (-4) and my lowest round of the season by a stroke. Shot Scope had me making 172 feet on the moss… not too shabby. Got everything to the hole and only missed low side twice. Basked in the glory of feeling temporary control over my golf game on Monday and then rolled out of bed Tuesday morning with a raging case of vertigo. To say that it’s been a humbling past few days would be an understatement. Looking like it may be awhile before I can secure an appt with an ENTS, so who knows when I’ll tee it up again. At least I didn’t post a stinker my last loop around the track but this situation seriously sux. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. I’m praying a little harder than usual for some give and yours would likewise be greatly appreciated. Adios for a bit (hopefully) muchachos. PS - loved your Edel video @Sluggo42… despite it making me dizzy AF. That thing should be prefaced with a hurl warning for the equilibrium challenged

I use this free iOS mobile browser app strictly for MyGolfSpy - Firefox Settings sliders: Block Pop-Up Windows _and_ Tracking Protection>Enhanced>Strict I wouldn’t have even known about the monetization frustrations if not for the folks venting about the developments. YMMV but zero site functionality issues, no trackers and not a single ad for me. Because it bears repeating - I see ZERO ads

While I’m a huge fan of laser rangefinders, the Shot Scope Pro L1 unit that I put into play a few months ago has been returning garbage distance readings of late - it’s all over the place. Definitely feels like wasted money right now but hopefully the replacement they’re sending out will be an improvement.

Agreed - just started binging this one and it’s truly refreshing.

RF module is a part wired into the motherboard that allows the V2 unit to receive wireless signals from the remote. If the stalling issue persists after my warranty expires, I may try to fab in an external antenna to see if that helps and should also significantly extend the remote range.

Re-gripping with an air compressor
downlowkey replied to Jiro's topic in Club Making/Repair & DIY Projects
With the majority of rubber grips, you can roll them back so there is an overlap. Use a regular blade to cut through the outer layer with the bottom layer acting as a buffer to protect graphite shafts. Repeat the process a few times and you should be close to having it off. Toward the butt end where the grip is thicker and tougher to roll, you don’t necessarily need to cut all the way through to tear it. Like rending fabric, you only need to nick it with the blade to create a weak point. -
I have the same unit and experienced the same stalling scenario - unit moves roughly a foot and then won’t accept any more remote inputs for ~15 seconds. Happened maybe 4-5 times over the course of 18 holes. After reaching out to Alex (Alphard founder) he determined it was most likely a bad remote _or_ alternatively an issue with the RF module. He initially had the U.S. distributor (Proactive Sports Group) send me a new remote which did not solve the problem. After that he had them ship me a new motherboard. That also did not solve the problem. Here’s what I have further narrowed down regarding specific incidence: 1. it is much more likely to occur after having initiated the remote lock function. 2. it is much more likely to occur when I quickly input a second forward speed increase from a stopped position. Potential workaround procedures that have improved my experience: 1. allow the unit to move several feet at the slowest setting before further increasing the speed. 2. use the (15 yard) programmed distance remote input to initiate forward motion after the unit has been locked and sitting (i.e. remote has been locked in your pocket for a few minutes while putting). I’ll be curious to hear if your experience mirrors my own. Alex has not been forthcoming re: whether ours is a common issue but I’m leaning that direction.

What I want most is for folks to make use of the search function prior to starting a duplicate thread. You can find ~5000 answers to your question in the HOF thread from @jlukes - What equipment are you thinking about? And while we’re on the subject of keeping our forum tidy - the Spy Chat link appears to be broken. Heads up @GolfSpy_APH

Hit a single 20 footer with the B.2 (stainless) yesterday at PGASS and was already placing it back on the rack before the ball dropped neatly into the middle. Despite the perfect lifetime average, I have zero urge to revisit that head, as it possesses all the personality of a fresh stick of Crayola sidewalk chalk at address. My personal opinion of the B.2 aside, I’ll take this opportunity to drop the annual suggestion that you might instead consider devoting flat stick practice time commensurate with the ratio of strokes it typically accounts for on your card. On the subject of actual effort - DLK’s putter LAB: position camera down the line, film stroke, review footage, resist urge to heave contents of stomach, make a plan, get to work, putt better.

First range session of the year is in the books. I adore practice but a cross-country move, crazy work projects and going from a 5 min course commute to ~40 min, has seriously inhibited my typical game management routine (and practice thread posting frequency). A glutton for punishment, I decided 100 5-iron swings would be a good way to jump back into the grind. It was a rough start but after a couple setup adjustments I was back to thumping some nice push draws. FullSizeRender.mov By the end I was absolutely covered in dirt, nursing very sore elbows and not totally displeased with the overall action. Range turf was a fluff fest but after carving up a kitchen towel sized patch of grass, hitting pellets off bare earth offered much better feedback. Am I the only person who employs that furry range haircut procedure? Notes for the day: my takeaway is trash, need to stretch more, beating balls into the fan sucks and Fall weather can’t get here soon enough. PS - the Ben Hogan ICONs are still buttery AF but it’s probably time to lace them up with Matrix Program graphite.

It’s certainly true that time flies when you’re having fun! You only have me beat by 5 months… and ~9K posts! Congrats and thanks for always being a steady hand.

I’ve been struggling on the moss of late. Just cobbled together this wand for the hard reset. Definitely feels different and right now that’s exactly what we’re looking for. Nike Method Converge B1-01 with “Limited” 7.0 Matrix Ozik Program 130 and Lamkin Deep Etched Cord.

This would seem an exceedingly rare but entirely appropriate occasion to apply the idiom “embarrassment of riches”.

History’s Mysteries: The Demise of MacGregor Golf
downlowkey replied to thechrisgibbs's topic in General Equipment Talk
The first Mac forging that I danced with was a set of Tourney PMB. In 1998 dollars, custom 2-PW cost me $1400 (employee discount). Beautiful buttery wrenches but they were too cruel even at the peak of my ball striking abilities. That was an enjoyable stroll down memory lane @GolfSpy Barbajo. In your exhaustive research did you come across any mention of Darren Clarke’s contract with Macgregor that granted him a new Ferrari for every tournament win? -
Yep - I believe Tony said the Kirkland has by far been the “spinniest” at low speed driver. Possibly a good thing for certain delivery tendencies and awful for others. I’m so very appreciative that MGS is doing this test. It is exactly why they get my monthly donations.

I’ve had the live stream on in the background all morning. This test is arguably the most intriguing thing going on the golf space so it’s crazy to me that the viewership is not higher. It would be interesting to know how many industry folks are tuned in. As you alluded, staff commentary on flight characteristic outliers has been illuminating. Seem to be some pretty wonky results with Callaway and OnCore so far. It easy to see why a test of this sort is so rare. Look at the resources being devoted - travel, dedicated hitting bay, launch monitors, a robot, a robot operator and (4) MGS staff putting in serious sweat equity. I think it’s fascinating. Considering the substantial resources invested in this round of testing and watching them sending someone out to check the wind when a ball is seriously off line, it seems like throwing a real time wind gauge out there would have been worthwhile. It’s definitely tight quarters in the bay, I really hope that robot doesn’t tag anyone because I’ve seen several close calls already.

No thanks necessary pards. With my center-shaft tendencies it was just going to keep collecting dust in the gear closet. The cover is way too cool for that and I’m happy knowing it will be a cherry on your gamer.

I’m seeing the same index issue that @Peaksy68 conveyed above. Click thru address via MGS HQ - https://forum.mygolfspy.com/tests/13-birdieball-outdoor-putting-green/ “Testers Wanted” address via forum home tab navigation - https://forum.mygolfspy.com/forum/75-testers-wanted/ Furthermore, the most recent BirdieBall application page is only visible via the direct click thru - https://forum.mygolfspy.com/tests/ If we’re reorganizing, clearly communicating the change to forum users would likely be much appreciated. Otherwise it appears things may be somewhat disorganized.

Thanks much @mjmcf - clubs arrived fast and they are in great shape! My Dad will be extra happy this Father’s Day!

I’ve recently started verbalizing my ace intentions on every par 3 tee, asking what everyone will be having to drink, etc. Thus far the delusional gunslinger routine is having an opposite effect.

Retail ball balance testing on a number of products is definitely on my To Do List. I expected the poles to flip if the balls were less 80mg out of balance and that was my observation on 8 balls. The counterweight on the rest didn’t waver at all from the North Pole orientation. And the counterweight also returned to the North Pole orientation after repositioning it at the equator and releasing it in the bath. I don’t especially like handling lead but ordered some tape for future testing to exclude any possibility of slight adhesive buoyancy. I’m planning to rerun this batch at 80mg when it’s delivered to see if the results match. Cutting some of these open sounds fun and that’s my plan going forward with the increasing counterweight protocol to identify the worst farm eggs. I signed up for the PuttOUT package reviewand if that mat rolls true it would probably be a decent surface to test roll variance. Beyond that I think gathering reliable flight characteristic data is a job best left to a robot and quality launch monitor.

We’re back with another round of 5 dz practice class 2019 TM TP5X whites (well almost… Golf Discount accidentally sent me a single Tour Response ball in this second batch). After having reviewed the video @GolfSpy_CS shared of BAD’s coach balancing Bridgestone balls, I have taken some measures to hopefully tighten my testing tolerances and provide some additional data. My new scale is good to 10 mg (1/100 gram) and was calibrated prior to testing. All balls met the USGA conforming 45.93 gram max weight standard. Lightest - 45.42, Heaviest - 45.83, Average 45.64. Next I inspected for cover defects based on MGS Ball Lab standards - limited to tooling indentations, cuts and abrasions (significant rough spots). 29 balls showed at least one of the issues listed. The majority of the imperfections we’re located in close proximity to the cover seam. Balls were then individually placed in a saltwater float bath to determine balance. Two balls were perfectly balanced and 57 were unbalanced to some degree. I used Glue Dot adhesives in place of lead tape as a weight to determine a pass/fail core imbalance result on each ball. Five dots weigh 80 mg. Of the 57 that exhibited some degree of imbalance, 8 passed the 80 mg counterweight balance test and 49 failed. The overlap of balls that both passed the counterweight test and were free from cover defects was 6 (including the 2 perfectly balanced balls). Despite taking a few hours to knock out this round of testing, it was actually sort of fun. I’m planning to run this batch of balls through another round of float balance testing with a series of increasing counterweights to determine the degree of imbalance beyond pass/fail at 80 mg. I’m open to suggestions/requests if you guys see any glaring problems with my testing protocols. I’m also not opposed to cutting some of these open to see what’s going on inside. Additionally, through correspondence with Golf Discount I’ve learned some supply chain specifics on this product. For instance, practice balls are shipped bulk in large boxes direct from TM and then bagged by the dozen at GD’s warehouse. Bulk shipping could potentially be a source of some abrasions but I think it’s unlikely. More to come but that’s all for now.
