  1. Stopped in the local Going, Going, Gone aka Dick's Warehouse/Closeouts. They had the Wilson Staff Model for $30/doz in yellow so I grabbed some to try out.
  2. My Vokey Wedges aren't going anywhere. I carry 50-54-58 and it's been that way for a decade plus.
  3. We are meeting at Deer Ridge in Bellville on May 5th
  4. Yep, I was assuming you, @MaxEntropy and @Mr_Theoo were the first foursome. But anyone else in Cbus want to come up? Or anyone else in Ohio? Or any newer members from the CLE/AKR area that may be following along?
  5. Ok so we are trying to go to Deer Ridge in Bellville (between Mansfield & Columbus) on May 5th. I'm pretty sure we have one 4some so far. I need to get a head count of anyone else interested because I'd like to set up tee times this week. I am thinking something late morning like 10:30-11 start as it'll probably still be cool out.
  6. 8:08 tee time Sunday morning, so plenty of time for both. Assuming I can win the TV battle against my 4 year old
  7. There is something about the Pix. The Callaway Truvis, Srixon Divide, and TM Tour Response Stripe all drive me nuts, but the Pix doesn't bother me.
  8. Yep there's certain courses that I play in a semi-rotation where they get to me. It's usually the tee shot. On my current home course that alternates between #7 and #9. On my absolute favorite course, #12 has been in my head for years.
  9. Played a very mushy 18 yesterday morning with @MaxEntropy and two other buddies. It was a course I play several times a year, and we had a lot of rain, even some snow, and heavy frost this week. So it was CPO, with a 30 minute frost delay. As it was a sub-par day I didn't keep score, but I hit some really nice shots, especially the driver, and felt like I played the front 9 pretty well with quite a few pars. Things did not go as well on the back, as I had at least 2, maybe 3, doubles. Also, the whole course really slowed down on the back and it took nearly 3 hours to finish up that 9, 4:45 total time on course + the delay. Still typical for early Ohio golf, and I only lost 1 ball to the conditions. Just great to be back at it.
  10. PUSH. CART. I'm not yet 40 and I love mine. I was a caddy for years and stubborn and put off buying one. Never should have waited.
  11. For Cleveland, I'll stick to the public courses. Sleepy Hollow & Manakiki are considered two of the best munis in the US and designed by Stanley Thompson & Donald Ross respectively. Boulder Creek is one of the toughest and nicest courses around. The Quarry, Shale Creek, Grey Hawk, and Little Mountain are other highly rated modern courses. We also have Pete Dye's Fowler's Mill & Fazio's Sawmill Creek. To go a little further out, Youngstown has Mill Creek - 36 holes of original Donald Ross & Toledo has the Arthur Hills golf trail. For those of you who like the history of the game, we have access to that as well. Highland Park Blue and Tanglewood hosted PGA events. Avalon Lakes out by Youngstown hosted LPGA. And most impressive is Clearview in Canton, which is on the historical register as the first African American designed and owned course in the country. All of this and I didn't even mention some of my favorite courses - Sugar Bush, Windmill Lakes, Chardon Lakes, and Pleasant Valley.
  12. Welcome! There are quite a few Columbus guys on here and I am one of the CLE spies. We are planning a meetup at Deer Ridge in Bellville on May 5th. If you are interested let us know.
  13. I may need to check these out for the price. Though I've not gotten older, just rounder.
  14. We are actually in the middle of doing a test on these now, and I'm one of the testers. See the thread here -
  15. You could just play as GUR until the trap situation is fixed. Drop one club length from the back edge of the bunker keeping the bunker between player and target. If courses don't maintain their bunkers and use the correct sand, they should just be removed from the course IMO.
  16. I used to but not anymore. I was a caddy in high school from 1999-2003, and then on and off again through 2008. I also worked part-time in the DSG golf department for a few years. I was briefly hired as an assistant pro at one of the country clubs, but a lot of circumstances outside of my control and it didn't even last 3 months.
  17. It was a good opening day to the season. After a par on #1 to open the year, the resat of the front 9 was pretty shaky. Lots of 3 putts and mishits. Back 9 was much better, and I played even par for the last 6 holes. It was a course I don't play a lot, but one I want to get back to.
  18. Had to get some new pants to start the year- Got Puma in black & red, and a pair of Adidas in royal blue.
  19. Dunlop=Srixon...change my mind. Dunlop, the tire company got bought up by Goodyear and Sumitomo rubber. The golf patents all went to Sumitomo in the sale, and they are the parent manufacturer of Srixon/Cleveland. I'll add SeeMore putters, PowerBilt, and Alien (lol)
  20. I'll put another vote in for night golf, that would be a blast to do as a semi-regular thing. I wish there was a local collective that all the courses would sign up to (more than just USGA or something) where all courses would operate more or less under the same rules. This isn't more for course conditions, but for operations one could expect when playing the course. They could train the counter staff, starters, and rangers to actually be efficient and consistent. And all the courses would have the same tee time schedule (every 8-10 min), all refuse walk up play at these same times etc.
  21. Music doesn't bother me as long as it's not too loud. I play with @MattF a lot and he usually has a speaker on his bag, but I can only hear it when I'm walking next to him down the fairway. (which isn't often) If I can hear it across the course it's too loud, but I think this has only happened once. I've tried it but it's not for me. I like to disconnect from technology on the course so, I prefer the natural sounds of the course.
  22. I see no reason I couldn't do May 5th. Sounds like we got our first foursome
  23. 2 kids, full time job, and it's at least a 25 min drive to the closest range.
